Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

And which one do you have then?

Yes, you’re right. I knew it was a friend and hairdresser but it sounds right the way round you’re saying. I’m off to look on Gerry’s blog for May to double check.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
370. True. I’ve seen those too.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:48 pm
I’m sorry, but the whole “day after” haircut thing is ridiculous. It wasn’t reported by ANY media outlet, reputable or otherwise. It was reported by some anonymous chick on the Internet who knows someone who claims it was true. This is not good detective work, kids.

I’ve seen baby pictures of Madeleine. Interestingly, some of Madeleine in her own home where she’s sat by the fire have baby photos behind her on the hearth.

Yes, let’s swap cheesecake recipes, and agree we will ALL go away and make a cheesecake before coming back to the forum (and bring back cheesecake and vodka)

The poster who mentioned her conversations with the people she trusted who witnessed the haircut, et al, seemed legitimate. I remember reading her comments. Simply because one isn’t quoted by a ‘reputable’ media outlet doesn’t make it impossible to be the truth. Just the same as not everything that’s printed is the truth.
The day-after haircut seems plausible, when you place it near the backdrop of Gerry’s Blog contents. If it is true, he would have to be a heartless b*s***d or at least a NPD (or is that the same thing?)
October 5th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
Do we really care what any blooger does in their personal life here on this blog? Hashing and rehashing this McCann puzzle is much more interesting than the wheres and wherefores of another’s bloggers tedious comings and goings or writings or not writings or farting and constipation.

He does google the barrymore/lubbock case
His contributions are very welcome.I think the majority are more concerned about The mc canns personal and bizzare activities that led to the disappearance of a little girl.
the world needs people like him and less of some erm others

The person on this blog had a friend who claims they were a customer in the hairdressers when Gerry came in. I am pretty sure the hairdresser was not the friend.
I am not saying the account is untrue but the person could have been mistaken about the day/date.

Cheers. Aren’t some people a pain at times?

I only confirmed what someone said in here. I didn’t say I believed it as gospel.

I know. I experienced the whole spectrum of symptoms from an N. The most bizarre time was when my son and I went to pick this N up from outside the casino in Monte Carlo. We were 3 minutes after the time we said because it was impossible to get near or park etc. The outburst because of that was so bad that a policeman came over to see what the commotion was about after he had told me and my son he could have us assassinated with one phone call (because we were inconsiderate for being late by 3 minutes).

I thought I read the priest is back in PdL. I know he’s not dead, though, as someone on another forum is in contact with him. (Or says he is…. but as I’m fond of saying, PROVE it?)
Well Susannah your exciting news from another forum (child’s body found in Spain) did not pan out yesterday. I am personally eager to have this case solved. I can’t imagine the girl is alive.
You know, what doesn’t make sense to me (and hasn’t from day 1)… if they knew there was even a VAGUE possibility of forensic evidence of M’s death could be found in the apartment (and, if they killed her, they would know this had to be possible), WHY didn’t they set up a scenario in which a stranger could have had time to kill her there in the apartment? See what I’m saying? But they set it up so they were with Madeleine at the apartment until almost 9, checked on her twice between arriving at Tapas bar and 10 p.m., so there’s NO chance under their scenario for a stranger to kill Madeleine in the apartment. Yet there is apparently Forensic evidence that she died at the apartment (I’m inclined to believe two police departments publicly saying so… has the PJ OFFICIALLY stated they have forensic evidence to this effect?)

358 dora. You should have quit when you thought you were ahead!
October 5th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
353 Dora says.
Tony Bennett get a life.
Listen Dora, I will defend Tony to the end.
Whenever my kids are bored I send them to the kitchen to bake something.
That way they keep busy and they get appreciation for presenting something delicious to eat.
So Dora as you are obviously bored let me give you a ginger infused cheesecake recipe. When you have finished baking it and eating it you may come back to the forum.
Oh and please take what you cannot eat to any elderly people who live nearby you who could benefit from your caring and loving attitude.
If Tony is doing nothing here you are doing even less.

354-Batman. I saw too wedding photographs of her parents with a GOD daughter, but none with Madeline infant

You are not very discreet about your own work. Why are you divulging any info on a case you are working on? I really don’t get you.

This case seems messier and more convoluted than the one we are all interested in.
I have seen one account where the mother said the blood in the fridge could have come from a nose bleed when she hit her daughter, but I wonder if she really said that as she supposedly washed the house down with petrol.
Washes the house but not the fridge? Uses expensive petrol rather than cheap and 10 times more effective bleach? Sounds like a story cooked up by a man who never cleaned anything that wasn’t mechanical.
I found a site claiming the blood in the fridge may not have been there at all. Dodgy forensics and such.

332 Getalife (!) “What proof do you have that Gerry got a haircut and went jogging in the 24 hours after Madeleine disappeared?”
REPLY: I’m open to correction on this, but I think it came from Gerry McCann’s own blog - it was discussed on this Forum a few days ago.
P.S. Thanks for asking about my employment. Had a day off today as yesterday our legal team successfully applied for (another) adjournment of a long-delayed inquest, due to run for 7 days, when we and the Coroner found out that Essex police had failed to stop a key witness - suspected of murdering the subject of the inquest 5 years ago - being extradited to Germany on a European Arrest warrant for another serious crime allegedly committed by the suspect a few yeras ago. It happened three weeks ago but we were only told on Tuesday (Ref: Wikipedia - Lee Balkwell). Can’t stop for long now, must put to bed before Sunday the four articles a fortnight I am contracted to write for a Christian newspaper

I think personality traits are of great interest as once one knows their flaws they can perhaps try to do better - learn to expand their empathy. I suppose the hard core NPD would never think of that.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
350 Laura. Very interesting question. I have never seen any baby pictures of Madeleine. I have seen wedding photographs of her parents though. I can only suppose Team McCann thinks these are more relevant to helping find Madeleine!

“If I remember correctly, Mr. Bennett is a retired gentleman, which would mean he has earned the right to his leisure and to the pursuit of his own interests”
With all due respect Jolie if I were retired I would spend my time doing something constructive with my life, charity work, trying to help other with real causes. I would not be spending my days and nights writing long posts trying to convince people to join some sort of personal campaign against a family that have yet been charged. I think Tony Bennett’s personal activities are bizarre and I do think he is an ambulance chaser as Moderation once pointed out.

Paulo Rieishas an interesting analysis of the “conspircy” of the British sleuths to debunk the Portuguese Police in their efforts - at least I think that’s what’s going on (sometimes I’m not sure). It was posted today. I did find some interesting and conflicting comments by Captail John O’Conner quite confusing at times in the interviews I have been able to skunk up by using google.

Did anyone saw a picture of Madeline when she was an infant? Kate natural color of hair is not bland. How comes all kids have bland hear?

And he had a friend and they had a friend and so on and so on.
No disrespect Stevo but I go to a hair salon regularly and all they do all day is gossip. I really don’t think gossip is any kind of hard evidence.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
npd makes the whole thing look premeditated
Do personality traits get you a lesser charge for murder?
October 5th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
332 Getalife
You’re hilarious. You’re just popping in to this site to ridicule people posting here and yet you’ve already read down to how many posts? Seems like you should take your own advice. At least most of the people on here are truly interested in being here. The rest are trying to shove the interested parties off the site.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Bennett is a retired gentleman, which would mean he has earned the right to his leisure and to the pursuit of his own interests.
October 5th, 2007 at 5:29 pm
326 - Stevo. I had the misfortune to have dealings with both a diagnosed NPD and someone who I am convinced was a psychopathy. In both cases a hallmark of their personality is that they feel no guilt and have no conscience about their actions. They always have excuses as to why it was not their fault and position themselves as victims. Interesting….
