Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

421 - Stevo, I would suspect that the dogs were called in because the police had no other leads to follow, (excuse the pun).
I see no other reason why they were called in at such a late date.

I have just read what appears to be the blog from 25 /26 May, just three weeks after Madeleine disappeared. They had a ‘busy week’, Kate had attened a luncheon (related to missing children) and Sean and Amelie had had a hair cut. They were due to do a photoshoot on the following Sunday.
Someone commenting on the blog said they had seen an interview on GMTV where Gerry said that one of the members of their party had mentioned seeing a man with a child in a blanket being carried away near to their apartment.
Has anyone else seen this interview? Is it true? If it is, did they just keep eating and think, funny -
I would have thought that, if it was something that was worth their friend commenting on it must have been out of place. Would’nt they have thought ‘I better have another check on the children’

Hmm, not a bad idea, I should write a book about this.

409. Maybe they are promoting their own websites or services or only the “ex” coppers are permitted to speak out of turn. They mention having contacts close to the source - so maybe they do??? It’s all one big happy family - you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.

400 Matthew - Good to see they have partially fixed the keyboard.
Of course he is obsessed.
We all are. Obsessed and addicted.
Anorak is the sugar man who keeps us asking for more.’
Early in the morning when the household is asleep I creep
into the domain waiting for my next fix.
Shivering, shaking I await the new thread or for my fellow posters to
awaken.
Of course we are obsessed with finding the truth, do you think there
are no good movies on.
P.S. Give my regards to Luke.

Can you go on http://www.tinyurl.com and paste the link in there and then give us the tinyurl link?

That’s ok. I was on a roll and tried to inject humour into your question because I didn’t get why you asked it. It’s not a problem…

I posted a link about the cell phones but it was “caught” in the filter. The answer is yes they can monitor but we only need to worry about the CIA or whatever it is in Europe - Interpol?
Casual listeners cannot hear your cell phone calls. Whew, that’s a relief. But the Police can with some hard work - whatever that means I do not know.

That was my line yesterday. All the so-called experts on the telly or in the papers are on the payroll of the media and they are all FORMER experts. Williams- Thomas gets me. I mean, what is a Child Protection Expert? What does one of those do and where do you apply to be one?
October 5th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
writing a book about it TB?
October 5th, 2007 at 6:32 pm
I honestly think that if Kate & Gerry were obese, and sorry to say it, African American, there would not be so much interest.

1 - Sheese is there no end to the critisims. While I too was disappointed with the Sky program, Martin Brunt only had a limited time to gat as much information acoss as possible. Why should he mention things that have no factual proof to substantiate them.
The blog does makes interesting reading though, and actually answers at least one question.
Sky News weather reprter Jo Williams was actually a guest at the resort. Now I wonder where the telephone call to Sky news came from. Could it have been Jo Williams by any chance?
The report merely said they had received a call from a family friend during the breakfast show on 4th May. Was Jo Williams that familiy friend having been an unknown member of the Tapas 10?

412 - JerriLyn. Thx. You are right!! Just get fed up with the cheap shots - especially regarding posters who are actually contributing.

I know. I think there must have been something behind the scenes that caused them to call in the cadaver dog team. The PJ must have had just cause to do that or it would be like another straw in the wind. It’s like sending in a team of frogmen because you think a body is found in a river. You don’t normally see the police do anything without a good lead.

358 dora says (October 5th, 2007 at 5:43 pm): “356, TONY BENNETT - You are not very discreet about your own work. Why are you divulging any info on a case you are working on? I really don’t get you”.
REPLY:
1. Everything I reported here was made public in open court at the inquest in Chelmsford yesterday - and is being reported in regional newspapers
2. Les Balkwell - father of Lee, the subject of the inquest, and the man I am assisting - wants the world to know what really happened to his son and wishes to expose what he sees as further instances of corruption in Essex Police (of which there has been a lot in recent years)
3. Information given to me in confidence is kept confidential
October 5th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
403 - JerriLyn. What strikes me is that all the British detectives who are quoted as slating the PJ handling of the case are FORMER British detectives. That means they are not official British police force spokesmen. And that also means they have a different paymaster.
Question is why are they saying this - at whose behest? Follow the money……..

Re:Gerry’s haircuts. You know, the whole haircut thing is SO weird, I can’t help but wonder if in fact Gerry is using his blog to communicate to the kidnappers (who he maybe already knows?). Perhaps the haircut is some kind of pre-arranged signal to the kidnappers? (Hey, it’s as reasonable as any other theory… Perhaps I should repeat my statement from yesterday that I believe there’s much more going on here than meets the eye.)
Stevo- I really didn’t mean to be attacking you, I really wondered what you were trying to say. People are reading all kinds of things into the most innocuous and basic day-to-day life events of the McCanns, I seriously thought you were finding something “interesting” (as in, related to the case) in the baby photos.

I wasn’t aware there’s a radio receiver that can pick up digital cellphone calls for eavesdropping purposes.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Let’s face it, it helps that they are both well spoken (gerry for the most part), Both professionals, attractive, and with so much support. I think that is the reason everyone here is so fascinated with this tragedy. There is not one piece of evidence against them period. Dna inconclusive, Sedation..where’s the evidence??, fell down stairs, where’s the evidence..Even MORE, Amaral and 2nd investigator…GONE..Hmmm. that says a whole lot about PJ.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
405. I don’t believe they used the “Death Scent Sniffing Dogs” at first - I think it was just their tracking dogs wasn’t it. I mean in the beginning.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Some questions I’d like answers to:
1)The dogs are cadaver dogs, so there must have been something to suspect foul play to bring in cadaver rather than search and rescue dogs?
2)The dogs are trained to pick up blood or corpse scent. They are not trained to follow Maddie’s scent in the car, they picked up blood or corpse scent in the car, dirty nappies belonging to the twins does not explain the dogs reacting to scent in the hired cars boot. Was any blood found in the boot? If not, surely that only leaves the scent of corpse?
3)The dogs followed a trail down to the beach, they would have been following the scent of blood or more likely corpse, is this not enough evidence that Maddie is dead?

Considering your name doesn’t pop up in here yet you know so much of what’s going on in this forum I’ll guess you’re just another impersonator. I don’t have a problem. What’s yours?

409 But who really cares. Does it matter to the blog?

She just seems to have a huge wardrobe out of proportion to the time spent there.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
405 I heard they overhead a cell phone call and will try to find the link, didn’t keep track of everything, but they were monitoring the cell phones and one can drive nearby with a listening device and pick up the conversations. Don’t know the formal name for it.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
401 Joe ‘People resort to insults when they can’t come up with a reasonable argument.’ Exactly. Perfect example is this:
“I think Tony Bennett’s personal activities are bizarre and I do think he is an ambulance chaser as Moderation once pointed out.” Posted (353) by….dora herself.

Actually, she was seen wearing those checkered black/white pants in many pics.

None of thees pictures shows Madeline as an INFANT.
Infant means baby from 1day of birth -to 12 months
October 5th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
She could have purchased clothing in Portugal, perhaps.

What’s not been discussed a lot - or at all is what made the PJ use cadaver dogs in the first place.
My theory is that the bugged phone conversations revealed something and gave them a new line of investigation. Why else would you bring those dogs in? If it was routine, we’d hear about it in other missing people cases.
As for bugging, I’m skeptical of the police bugging mobile phone conversations. Landlines perhaps but mobiles are not as easily traced to the best of my knowledge. The digital signals can’t be picked up by radio scanners so bugging mobiles would be quite a challenge.
