Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

Well unless someone is in that group of making personal attacks or idiotic or prejudiced comments in here, I think there’s a good bunch of people in this forum and Tony is certainly one of the better ones. I see no point in personal attacks and Moderation definitely has a bee in her bonnet about Bennett!

Here’s an old story May 29th, about the Mobile Cell phones being tracked of anyone near the resort - even the mystery boat person, and I suppose too the Limo person.
Now suupose they didn’t come up with anything interesting, no new suspects?

I think the eavesdropping of digital cellphones is more a CIA/MI5 level of technology - not the ordinary police force.
What I’m hinting at is that to bring in specialist dogs for a SPECIFIC purpose seems more like they had knowledge of something to make them go down that path in the investigation. I don’t think you randomly throw all the available resources at it. That’s the same reason why you don’t chase every “sighting” of Madeleine. Police always go after good leads. I just think they had something to go on that pointed them in the direction of saying that they thought cadaver dogs would clarify or confirm their hunches.
Remember this - the police don’t have an infinite pot of money to do every type of investigation possible. If so, then the PJ would be flying off to Belgium, Morocco, Malta etc. Police are only human and wouldn’t you like to jet off (like Gerry) if you thought you had a viable lead?

458 Stevo, I appreciate that Tony is doubly as obsessed with the case as we are (perhaps tripl-y) but that doesn’t mean his thinking is clear. Some of the leaps of logic I’ve seen him make are too much. And as for the Day After Haircut, so far as I’ve seen, that information came DIRECTLY from a person here on the Anorak, who kept posting it, and posting it, and posting it again, and when queried said only that her “friend” saw it happen. This is not reliable information. ButI have little doubt that is where Tony gets this particular piece of information. Tony can correct me if I’m wrong– if he has another source for this “fact,” I’d LOVE to hear it.

Krissie , I think Molly is quite independent, it was she who knew about the haircuts.
Her posts are clear and precise and well put together, and she doesn’t seem pro or anti but on the side of Madeleine. She has been a regular for several months now, you of may know different, but I find her plausible and very coherent.

Batman, after you get your wine, could you post the link to Gerry’s blog entries? Thanks.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
456 That would be maddening. How did he know who you are to begin with?

For some reason, Tony is quite active and interested in raising the bar in the McCann story. Don’t put it past someone like that to have access to information we don’t know about. The Gerry/haircut thing is a yes he did/no he didn’t thing. It’s either fact or fiction. Things like that will come out and we’ll know one way or the other.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
So Stevo, what are you saying that the PL could not or probably didn’t eavesdrop on the McCanns cell phone calls?
So they brought in “Death Scent Sniffing Dogs” for lack of any other leads - that makes sense.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Stevo, TB set himself up when he published every single personal detail about me he could find as well as a copy of my blog and then lied that he had proof I was paid by Team McCann!
Good job Anorak know me isn’t it??!!

Really sorry to hear about your sister.
My son is 1 week different in age to James Bulger and I followed that case so closely because it struck a chord - perhaps like your sister’s similarity to Madeleine does for you. I wanted to see James Bulger’s killers put away and they were, but sadly were released by an idiotic decision.
This case could end up being a farce and the McCanns could walk away scot free. But that would be a travesty because there’s no message sent out there to other parents who leave their kids alone. This is what aggravates me most.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
judge 423 the woe is not upon me yet perhaps because i’m sober,can’t help thinking you are wishing events to fit your agenda.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
449. Maybe she’s hinting that there could be a few on here with hidden agendas……I don’t know what else it could be……planting phony ideas to get the discussion sidetracked?????Seems odd ……..
Please paint a picture for us.

Can someone post me a link where I can find Gerry’s blog in entirety??? Thanks.

Joe says (October 5th, 2007 at 4:40 pm)
REPLIES TO YOUR MAIN POINTS INTERLEAVED
Joe wrote: “To Tony Bennett in reply to post 1126 on 3rd October. Hi Tony, just wanted to address the points you made to me as a result of my post 1082 of the 2nd October. Haven’t much time for blogging so this rather long one might be my second and last. Kate Mccann’s emotions…it is a known fact that her child is missing. I can’t imagine how I would react if I was asked to give an opinion as to whether my child was still alive. I really don’t know but there is the possibility that she is shaking her head silently in despair at having to confront the fear that her child may be dead, or perhaps because of the insensitivity of the question. That’s just my opinion…”
REPLY: I think it is good evidence that she knows her child is dead - but I agree not by any means conclusive for the reasons that you give. I take it into account, Joe, along with all the other clues in this case
========================================
Joe wrote: People peddling these wild, unsupported theories are not thinking of the twins in the slightest, even though they purport to care so much about Madeleine…
REPLY: Joe, quite simply, if the parents accidentally or in some way deliberately killed their child, then the twins are manifestly also at risk. The parents left the twins on their own every evening on holiday while they went out eating and drinking. On the evidence we have, the McCanns do not seem to spend much time with their children. They have a nanny, they put them in a creche on holiday, then they jet set all over the world after the twins’ elder sister has ‘disappeared’, rather than spending time with them. Remember also it is Kate and Gerry McCann themselves that deliberately chose to play the media card and present themselves as responsible, caring parents. We are entitled to question that. It’s just like celebs who want to be on every front page looking good all the time, but then become incandescent with rage and threaten libel suits when some unwelcome details of their private lives are revealed
=======================================
Joe wrote: “They thought [leaving their kids all night on their own] was a safe environment. As for ‘partying’ I thought they were just eating tapas…the amount of drinking done that evening appears to vary wildly depending on which tabloid you read”.
REPLY: You are minimising the seriousness of their child neglect, Joe. Are you involved with the welfare of children?
========================================
Joe wrote: I did notice that Kate McCann ruffled the hair of her little boy affectionately in the video made on the bus journey to the aeroplane and it looked like the natural, unaffected gesture of a caring mother
REPLY: I agree and I have already said so on this Forum
========================================
Joe wrote: “As trainee doctors they will have been taught to use problem solving skills and strategies in difficult circumstances [like Madeleine’s disappaearance0 and they may be turning to these as a way of coping with the fear. Not everyone’s way of coping, I’d agree, but we are all unique".
REPLY: I can only add that their efforts seemed to be devoted to perpetuating the abduction myth and not to looking for Madeleine. A great many posters on this Forum share the same view
========================================
Joe wrote: "It will be interesting to see how the evidence stacks up in court, particularly in the light of recent events in the Polícia Judiciária, as to whether your ‘perceptions’ are true or false".
REPLY: Hope it happens
========================================
Joe wrote: "If they are found guilty then the care of the twins would obviously be advised by Social Services and they may be placed in the care of a relative. If they are innocent I don’t think they will be taken into care".
REPLY: Which is exactly what I said, also
=========================================
Joe wrote: "I have witnessed, as an assistant in an educational environment, shocking neglect. I have seen children of five with severe nappy rash and reeking of ammonia through lying in filthy, wet nappies all night, a child who when her socks were removed for P.E. her toes were swarming with body lice [other appalling examples given by Joe -CUT]…I’m sure Social Services will have looked very carefully at the McCann case, and the police will have made them aware of the details. They chose not to act based on that knowledge so that tells us something”.
REPLY: We don’t know that. There are reports that Social Services have insisted the children are not alone at night-time with the McCanns and they are being required to have a relative stay overnight in the house. A writer called Bernadine Kennedy came on the Forum to claim that she knew that this was untrue, but later she was forced to admit that she was making it up as she did not know anyone connected with the McCanns and therefore couldn’t say whether it was true or not. She was unable to identify a source
=========================================
Joe wrote: “Petitions or campaigns by smug, self-righteous Internet bloggers will not influence Social Services in the slightest”.
REPLY: Agreed
==========================================
Joe wrote: “I intend to keep a balanced view of the situation unless hard evidence proves otherwise”.
REPLY: Hard evidence would be preferable; which is why I hope the PJ will charge the McCanns sooner rather than later if they think they have committed an offence. In the meantime I continue to question the propaganda from the Team McCann public relations machine

443 Stevo. Can provide you with a link for ALL Gerrypops scintillating blog entries later. But they do come with a health warning. Have your sick bucket ready. Right now, I have to go and have a glass of wine.

I never said Tony is or isn’t a lawyer. Why did you mention that?
I just wonder why you’re obsessed with personal attacks on him. Like I said, whether he’s right or wrong, he does actually DO something with good intent.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
I only get in here during my lunchtime to catch up..Only reason I do it is because my little sister, who died of cancer, looked so much like Madeleine..so I always try to read up a bit on anything going on. But seriously, this is all a joke. PJ is a complete joke, look what happened. I honestly feel bad for what the parents must be going through. Oh and Stevo, I apologize!! Really, we’re all free to have our own opinions.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
Just the facts folks. Lets stick to the facts…….
if only I could find them……..where are they please…….

Dr. Phil- actually, I completely agree with you. Or if they were poor.

Thanks…it was as I thought…almost impossible. I’m still a bit skeptical of whether the PJ actually did eavesdrop but who knows?
October 5th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
We should do an analysis of every McCann interview - just keep tally of every word that’s repeated. So many “be’s” ..uhs etc. just for fun see how many times Madeleines name is mentioned….etc… do it for every word and see if a pattern developes.
Can also be done with phrases….repetition can be very enlightening. That’s why people need to hire PR teams and get “Spokesmen” - the truth is often discovered in their choice of words.

Can I ask where you saw those May blogs? I’ve been looking for a link and can’t find the one I saw the other day.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
Oh, my!! He mentions Sean and Amelie getting a haircut too????? That is just too weird. No really. What is Gerry’s obsession with haircuts?? This has to be EITHER a case of really severe OCD , or a message to the kidnappers.
October 5th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Syevo, your naivete is quite sweet. You check every little detail about the McCanns and then take others at face value… very strange.
Lawyer? My eye.

October 5th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Personally, I dislike Tony Bennet because he makes such gigantic leaps of logic, and he cites “facts” such as Gerry getting a haircut 18 hours after Madeleine disappeared in his case against the McCanns, when in truth, there’s no evidence such a thing happened, except some anonymous poster on THIS forum claimed a “friend” of hers saw Gerry getting a haircut that day. Yeah. Right. I find Bennett’s logic is not, well, very logical. Plus, I can’t tell what his role is– is he getting PAID in this case? Or is he, as you say, retired? But mostly, I’m offended by his huge leaps of illogic.

Last night as we were making dinner, I lied to my husband and told him I needed to “check my e-mail” for a matter regarding my work, and then I snuck up here to check on the Madeleine news. However, I think my interest is waning. Once the leaks stop, what are we going to do? There are no new leaks!! They got rid of the leakers!

I said a few days ago that I’m pleased there’s blokes like Tony Bennett out there. There’s people who talk about doing stuff and moaning about it and there’s people like Tony that feel so strongly about things they get off their arse and DO something about it. I take my hat off to him and whether he’s right or wrong on all his issues - the point is he’s actively doing something about it so we, the general public don’t get hoodwinked by people in charge.
What is your problem with him? I don’t get it.
