Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

In addition:
He added that despite all the resources at the McCanns’ disposal, their campaign had so far produced ‘nothing’, as opposed to that of the police who have obtained the only credible evidence.
The news comes as one of Portugal’s most senior police officers admitted today that the Portuguese investigation into Madeleine McCann is in crisis.
Alipio Ribeiro, head of the criminal investigation department, is said to be furious about the constant setbacks.
October 5th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
The source in today’s article claimed that the inquiry, which initially focused on Madeleine being abducted, changed direction after Leicestershire police offered to help by taking sniffer dogs to the apartment.
“The British police came up with the evidence the Portuguese needed to make the McCanns suspects in Madeleine’s disappearance,” the source told the Evening Standard.
“It was the British police’s idea to have sniffer dogs search the apartment. That day marked the turn in the case.”
A month later, on 7 September, the McCanns, both doctors, were declared official suspects. The source said: “If it wasn’t for the involvement of the British police, the McCanns probably would not have been made suspects.
[A possible answer to why the sniffer dogs were brought in...]
“The Portuguese police had their suspicions two weeks after Madeleine disappeared due to the discrepancies between witness statements.
“The friends, the McCanns and the employees at the Ocean Club had stories that just didn’t match up.
“At that stage they couldn’t do much with their suspicions. It was only when the British got involved that the inquiry began to move on quite quickly.”

527 Batman (October 5th, 2007 at 7:58 pm): “Why is no one interviewing O’Brien? Lot of loose ends there”.
REPLY: I think you will find that Eddie the cadaver ’sniffer’ dog from South Yorkshire Police ‘interviewed’ O’Brien’s clothes about 10 days ago down in Exeter, Devon, and discovered the ’smell of death’ on his shirt, or trousers or something.
I daresay the coppers who’d got Eddie on a lead may also have interviewed Mr O’Brien himself.
Anyway, I expct it’ll all come out in the wash

579. Thank you. Unfortunately my audio on my computer is defunked today? Agh…can’t listen to a darn thing.

575 - Tony Bennett. What do you think - will they ever face charges? Also are you intrigued by the political, legal and commercial might being given to two ‘ordinary’ parents who, after all, have clearly demonstrated their negligence in terms of child care. Would be interested in your views.

Gerry McCann also told of an “extraordinary experience” inside the church in Praia da Luz just days after Madeleine’s disappearance. The experience inspired him to launch the global campaign to find his daughter.
He said: “I had this mental image of being in a tunnel and instead of the light at the end of the tunnel being extremely narrow and a distant spot, the light opened up and the tunnel got wider and wider and went in many different directions …. I can’t say it was a vision because I am not clear what a vision is but I had a mental image and it certainly helped me decide. I became a man possessed that night. The next day I was up at dawn, making phone calls.”

I’m not suggesting anything. As I said I give it to you for what it’s worth. It just seems odd that’s all.

310 Jerrilyn,
Her mum said it is impossible that she wandered off.
She should know. Listen and make up your own mind, noting the date was well before she was made an arguido.

will glad you have got the handle on the tapping malarky, tried to explain how it and the triangulation works seems to fall on deaf ears, you are right it is a piece of cake,i could set tracing of any number given to my company by the legal authorities in motion in seconds.people seem to think if you give the signal a fancy name gsm and add packets its super secure, well it aint and never will be,i could probably bust a line with a calculator a tin can a couple of batteries and an invertor through in a 50 pence radio scanner, hey presto we got us a trackin device.

It seems like Eddie the cadaver ’sniffer’ dog from South Yorkshire Police ‘interviewed’ O’Brien’s clothes down in Exeter, Devon (see previous threads) and found the smell of death on his shirt, or trousers or something.
A copper may have interviewed O’Brien as well.
I expect it’ll all come out in the wash

Oaky. I think I understand now. Cell phones can be “tapped” and “bugged” but not via a remote listening device by someone following in a car. Except the example mentioned by the woman from Texas of a conversation overhead by a neighbor.
I saw a television movie on this, where a woman was picking up the air ways signals and discovered a murder plot. But that was TV afterall…..

“Did anyone saw a picture of Madeline when she was an infant? Kate natural color of hair is not bland. How comes all kids have bland hear?”
This is an interesting point, if sidetracking slightly (but not as much as most of the posts I’ve seen on here so far): When the McCanns rushed back to the UK on September 9th, they were filmed at the airport with Mr. M reading his prepared speech to the nation and Mrs. M hugging the girl twin, Amelie, close to her chest. The camera panned onto Amelie’s face (this was before they decided to blank the kids’ faces out). She was in half-profile and I noticed that although her hair was ash blonde, which looked dyed, she had very black eyelashes. As she turned slightly, I saw what looked like heavy black mascara on her eyelashes.
I give you this snippet of info for what it’s worth. No doubt the boring ranters with nothing to say except to tear what anyone else says to shreds with insults thrown in (especially if they scent the blood of the McCann in what is said) will jump on this post saying it’s evil, anti-child, blah, blah, blah! Bring them on! If anyone would like a link to this particular video, I have saved it in favourites and could probably provide it.

Andy pointed this out earlier. Like I said and your link says…it’s not accurate to within 10 feet. It’s more like 50-100m depending on the towers etc. But thanks for responding with a link.

Mods and Admin. 100% did NOT post anything until he had put everything else up… copied out from my blog.
That is so unfair! Good job I printed it all out.
After he’d put up everything about me I posted (in humour) available from all good bookshops or somesuch.
And as I said, I never complained about it at the time although the constant heckling from TB was really irksome.
I tried to deal with the other stuff behind the scenes but if you want in in the public arena fine.
As Dora says… only anti-McCann warrant real support. Even when Bulldump was absolutely foul you didn’t take his post down…..

That is untrue.
We are a satirical site and something about can’t stand the heat.

559,
Actually Judith C it is interesting because it gives insight into the kind of mind the blogger actually has. People that are obsessed with someone else’s tragedy do need to get a life, absolutely 100%. This is why I worry for people like Anonymous who starts to abuse other bloggers on their personal website or people like Tony Bennett who is trying to stir up some sort of hate campaign - sorry Tony you probably refer to it as a campaign for “justice”. But I don’t think that it quite what it is. Why are you so personally involved? I do find this odd?? What ever the truth is, it will come out eventually for the sake of everyone who is ACTUALLY part of this investigation - not for the sake of the bloggers on this site. I don’t mind people posting their personal opinions but when someone actually starts trying to organise ignorant campaigns, I find their motive very questionable to say the least.

They would only be ‘easy’ to listen in to if the mobile phone was using an analogue signal.
In Europe all countries use GSM for mobile phones. The signals are not analog - like am radio - but are digital packets - more like the internet. You can’t easily listen in to them as each packet is normally encrypted.
October 5th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Stevo
Tapping into mobiles is relatively easy. In fact we have the technology at CSI Grimsby.
There are legal implications. The European Human Rights thingy is a bit of a pain but that is ok as Grimsby isn’t in Europe
Seriously though mobile tapping piece of cake.

Portia - I like your moniker. ‘The quality of mercy is not strain’d,’ and all that. Nice.

Thanks for the link BATMAN.
I’ve only started but they do seem DETACHED! I have blogged myself for a year in 2003, and that was over a family problem. It was much more focussed on the persons at the heart of the diffficulties I had. And probably more sensitive and emotional too.
It’s hard to put yourself in the other person’s shoes properly though.
October 5th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
I presume that the “bugging” of the cell phone calls that was allegedly reported was done by some sort of “remote listening device”? I would gather that this is fairly easily done, especially if the PJ had received permission to do so (from whoever? …. a judge?). In an ongoing investigation, particularly of this sort, I would say that whoever had the authority to grant this form of investigation would have given the “yes” word without a second thought?
I mean, I doubt if the PJ would have done this sort of investigation without the correct procedures being followed. If this is actually the case, then they would know that any evidence collected by this means would be thrown out of court due to it being obtained “illegally”?

Pope Visit.
I think the reason for the pope visit was to get the pope to make an appeal.
This was done, in 1983, by JPII. The case involved the abduction of the daughter of a Vatican employee (the employe had arranged for the would be assassin to attend a papal, invitation-only event two days before the attempted assassination of JPII.) Two years later the daughter of the same Vatican employee was abducted and the kidnappers demanded release of the assassin in exchange for the girl. The Italian police were never able to get the Vatican to cooperate with the investigation. Cardinal Oddi testified that he saw the girl getting into a car with a priest two hours after the girl was reported missing. The girl was never found. (All information from David Yallop’s book on John Paul II).
To make a long story short, popes have learned not to get involved.

I have no idea of the law in portugal I was simply describing how easy it is for the Police and other authorised agencies to tap mobile phones. They just need the targets phone number and in most countries, a court order.
What you describe in your personal example is simple recording, which is something completely different to tapping.
