Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

Yes, the Internet shrinks distance but if enough could make it I’m sure it would be interesting. Imagine this - some posters use multiple IDs so they’d be able to come along as many people simultaneously!

Can anyone tell me the webpage for the video showing Gerry McConn saying that is bad that they lost their daughter but it could have been worse - they could have lost all three?
I want to show my disbelieving friend that video

Sorry! It was a bit of a (bad) joke. I was only quoting the term Judith C had used about those who believe the McCanns may be innocent.
ABSOLUTELY no offence meant, honest!
October 5th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
I heard it on the news this morning but am not so certain now of the channel. I will look it up.

622 - Judge Dread. Thx for this. But has anyone heard a dicky-bird about any of these missing people? Not a chance.
Krissie asked if the reason the fund was not made a charity was because it would take too long. I think that other - more informed posters than I - have said it is because the McCanns did not want to include other missing children in their fund.
The Fund is managed by McCann supporters/family.
I would really love a pro-McCannic to explain to me how finding one child can be so much more important than finding others. Why were they not generous enough to expand the remit? Why was it just THEIR daughter who had to be funded?
One answer is because it has damn all to do with finding Madeleine and all to do with covering up the truth.

“Actually Judith C it is interesting because it gives insight into the kind of mind the blogger actually has. People that are obsessed with someone else’s tragedy do need to get a life, absolutely 100%.”
I don’t want to be hard on you Dora, because my sister shares her name with you…But. None of us would be on this site at all if we weren’t obsessed (as you put it) with someone else’s tragedy. And what’s with this cliche you use “need to get a life”? Come on Dora! Be real! I, for one, have a life - have you? You spend longer on here than I do.
However, the point essentially is that this is a site specifically about the McCann ‘tragedy’ (your word). It’s not a lonely hearts forum, or a social services helpline forum, or a scoring points forum. I don’t care what kind of mind the blogger who posts on here has, or how many cakes their family bakes, or what car they’ve got, or whether they fancy each other (sightings might make a difference there).
I’m on this site to talk about the Madeleine McCann case - anything else is trivia and belongs somewhere else.

623 - Why Not
OK what is your perception of me.
(Boy have I set myself up this time).
October 5th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
this moves me to so many awkward emotions that i think it best just to read and take note -
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/05/earlyshow/main3334438.shtml
i’ll tell you one thing, or two. when i was 9, i was sexually assaulted by someone (a family friend) who my mother left me with momentarily, thinking it was the safe thing to do. the experience crippled me emotionally for years. a couple of years ago, when i couldn’t contact my older teenaged daughter or her friends one evening on their mobile phones and as night time approached, i was so affected by the thoughts of what could befall them (easy prey) that i was determined to walk to the ends of the earth - and to walk real fast too, in spite of all the mental agony - until i was able to locate my daughter.
my child means something to me. and i always think of how empty my life would be without her (and she’s not my only child). nothing can replace her because of all she has come to represent in life. my life would not be normal ever again without her. and the whole world would know of my daily anguish, and of my love for her, and the things i miss about her and that more than anything else i wanted her back.
the closer you are to Reality, the more the Real Possibilities hit you and affect you…or so i’d like to think. the truer your emotions, the easier it is to express them too.
or maybe i’ve just gotten it wrong, for all these years….

Can the social be held in Grimsby? We can then all put our detective skills to use playing hunt the buried piggy.
October 5th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
its a bit bloody too little too late as far as kate mccann and her crocodile tears are concerned. If they are real tears they’re not for maddie, no i think these tears are cause she knows shes going down…hopefully for a very long time.
October 5th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
No, the DA’s or CID’s do not prosecute on solid evidence all the time, they prosecute on the most likely scenerio given the facts…it could not be something rather obscure but this given must be true given what we know….
Sometimes it is a few blood stains and of course motive helps…then there’s mishap……which is suspected in this sitatuion.
But I would think that a few compelling items, blood splatters, hair in the wrong places, might be enough…might…and then we hear silly rationale for these……rotting meat, and nappies?
October 5th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Stevo - let me know if you find it all I am getting for tonight is Ghost Whisperer - unless it’s on the news. Which it probably is.
Can’t believe someone thought you were Krissie!
October 5th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
When this case is concluded (if at all), how about the forum posters in here all getting together for a social do? There can be a prize for everyone having to guess the IDs of everyone else.

It was a spokesman for the Leicestershire police who also quickly made sure they made it clear that they have expressed no view on Madeleine’s disappearance, only providing technical help for the Portuguese police as and when needed. They made it clear it is not their investigation.
Do we seriously suppose that, at this delicate point in the investigation, the L police would really make a public up-front statement that they agreed with the Portuguese police???!!!
Hardly likely!
This was yet another leak and very quickly denied by the L police. And why shouldn’t the McCanns’ lawyer also point out that the L police had made no such statement?
When I read the first article (before corrections) in the online Daily Mail this morning, I assumed we wouldn’t get the denial from the police until tomorrow. In fact it came just a few hours later.
This has been the pattern with all similar leaks over the past few weeks. Very sad. I hoped they would cease with Amaral’s dismissal.
We need to await an official position to be stated. For one thing, if the UK police believe there is evidence to support the view that KM killed her child, hid her body with GM’s help only to move it weeks later to bury it somewhere else, they should NOT be leaving the twins in their present home. They should be bringing strong pressure for an arrest and certainly removing the twins to safe keeping.
I presume they are not because there is no evidence for the McCanns’ guilt. All the suspicions in the world (and there are thousands who believe in the McCanns’ innocence anyway) do NOT make a case. A case must rest on solid evidence. If it emerges, fine. If it doesn’t, there’s no case.
