Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

“The only animal that can digest bone and teeth are crocodiles and aligators”
Please don’t give the ‘pork slayer’ any more ideas on how to dispose of pigs…..they’re nearly as intelligent as dogs….very good at ’sniffing’.

My wolf is pretty respectable. No bodies around. He makes quick fun of all bones.

Someone has been predicting a murder suicide!!! Scary.
This was also on the Early Show site… (US Stats)
According to a 2002 report by the U.S. Department of Justice, an estimated 797,500 children are reported missing each year. About 12,100 of these cases are classified as non-family abductions, and of these the number of “stereotypical” abductions - involving a stranger or slight acquaintance who keeps the child overnight, transports him at least 50 miles, holds him for ransom, takes him with the intent of never returning him, or kills him - is extremely small.
# A law enforcement survey found that 115 missing children in the year studied fit the description of a stereotypical kidnapping.
# In 40 percent of stereotypical kidnapping cases, the child was killed.
# Nearly half of stereotypical kidnapping victims were sexually assaulted.
# Ten percent of stereotypical kidnappings lasted longer than 24 hours.
# At 69 percent, the majority of stereotypical kidnapping victims were girls.
# Seventy-two percent of stereotypical kidnapping victims were white.

714 Jolie - It does seem to be another admission that the child is already dead - knowledge gained by Kate McCann either by deduction or empirical observation. Kate’s statments seem to be littered with references to a ’shocking’ event, getting ‘caught’ someone ‘catching’ her (viz early interview with Star magazine reprinted in Independent) or ‘danger’ as in the interview you quote. These could all point towards massive guilt at having left the child unprotected, or be admissions regarding some other version of events.

Sorry, didn’t mean to embarrass you. I thought he was a complete fraud also I just thought if he was invited by the McCanns that is an odd thing for guilty people to do. I agree with judge dread that if they didn’t belive he could help it wouldn’t hurt, but my point is why bother at all, why not just let thing s play out.
Now if they could have invited Piet Byleveld it might have been a better bet. Perhaps you could put him in a box and post him off th PDL?

You don’t own a wolf. So don’t tell me you do and have first hand experience.
October 5th, 2007 at 11:06 pm
Wolves too will eat bone like that also. They are quite powerful jaws and can break a thigh bone with little trouble. Dogs don’t chew, they crunch and break and swallow.
Yes, I own a wolf too!
October 5th, 2007 at 11:04 pm
702. You are wrong about that. Dogs do. Their stomach acid dissolve the bone and it becomes this mush of calcium. It then travels down the digestive track where all or most of the liquid is absorbed, and if the dog eats too much bone this calcium almost becomes like concrete. Most dogs will poop it out in white chunks. But my big girl dog, at too much of it, and it became stuck in her intestines, finally after a few vet visits it did pass without surgery.
I think you don’t know much about dogs.

My completed comments are in 714. My earlier post was incomplete because I hit the wrong button and posted by mistake. I’m using my son’s laptop and I’m all thumbs with it.
I hope that the McCanns do not have access to firearms.

Read this paragraph and see if you find it ominous:
“Kate said, “It really isn’t easy,” coping. “Some days are better than others. … There’s days when you think, ‘I can’t do this anymore,’ and you just want to press a button, and we’re all gone, and it’s all finished, and we’re all together and gone. Wherever. But you can’t, you know. Just occasionally you’ll have a — if you’re having a really bad day, which we do. And you can’t help but think that.”
This is from the CBS Eove.arly Show article linked above. I hope someone is closely monitoring this family or we could find a murder-suicide event splashed across the front pages some day soon.

I know. She certainly opened up more to CBS than she did on the radio interview.

Tony Bennett 660
I aplogise for the careless phrase “bring down the McCanns”. To be honest Tony, I think it’s rare for me to use “inflammatory” terms but I’m sorry.
If your campaign is to ensure that the McCanns are prosecuted for child neglect, it seems an odd choice. There are many who do exactly what the McCanns did and much worse. It does seem vindictive to choose parents who have been “punished” by losing their child as the ones to prosecute. (Even you cannot be certain they killed their child or helped to hide her body etc? You can’t be sure the abduction theory is incorrect.) I would have thought they’d learnt their lesson. If they’re innocent they’ve also suffered all the accusations about their involvement as well.
I accept that most of the “mud” is coming from the PJ. It’s also come from the press. All the more reason for ordinary citizens to be cautious.
I have tried to answer your query about the unanswered questions and Stig gave a much better response himself . As a lawyer you must know very well that innocent answers can appear incriminating. That’s why even innocent people are often advised to be silent at certain points. You know that. That’s if they DID refuse to answer questions. Actually, if I was being accused of killing my child I’d be jolly careful what I said to those asking me to make such a confession.
It has been stated quite clearly that the findmadeleine fund will NOT be used for their defence expenses.
I agree that the time is now coming when it will be appropriate for at least some of that fund to be used to help other missing children and their families. As time goes on, the chances of finding Madeleine diminish significantly. We will have to see what happens with the fund.
There is a question which I don’t think you have answered clearly, Tony, but forgive me if you have.
WHO benefits from covering the McCanns’ guilt if they are guilty? (Obviously they themselves would, if guilty, and so would their friends, if guilty.)
I’m asking who else? Do you believe that there is a major government/police/press/freemason/catholic/capitalist/socialist/PM conspiracy to cover up the McCanns’ guilt? As I’ve said, this seems to me to put us squarely in the absurd world of the fantasy-thriller.
Clarence Mitchell has had to give up his govt. job to be their spokesman. In the very early days hardly anyone doubted the abduction story.
Please please explain the conspiracy theory. Whose conspiracy? Why? These two doctors have no power or influence do they? If so many people believe in their guilt surely the politicians would do better NOT to support the McCanns? Why do you doubt that the investigation into the main crime will be satisfactorily pursued? Or is it the questions of the fund and the negligence which are your priorities?
There may be realistic evidence of their having killed their child but it doesn’t seem to be around yet unless the police are keeping it secret. I myself have seen no more evidence for the killing theory than for the theory that the child was taken by a person or persons unknown.
(Maybe I’m grossly underestimating what the police actually do know but they don’t know enough to charge, it would appear.)
I am doing no more than being cautious at this stage. I think most of us would hope for that treatment in a similar situation.
October 5th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
Oh! for the days of Healey and Howe. But laughing apart, this is an incredibly serious matter, brought down to the level of theatre and farce by the communications on this site. And golly! I am reading it, and EVEN contributing. What does that make me?????
October 5th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
705. She is obviously medicated. If she didn’t need medication when it happened she certainly needs it now.
October 5th, 2007 at 10:57 pm
698 - Crime is lowr in Portugal because there is little point in reporting them given the crappy policing. There methods, (and screw ups) remind me of those of the police who hunted Jack the Ripper in 1888

An old favoutite{favorite} for our american cousins
Hey girls, gather round
Listen to what I’m putting down
Hey baby, I’m your MChandyman
I’m not the kind to use a pencil or ruler
I’m handy with love and I’m no fool
I fix broken hearts, I know that I truly can
If your broken heart should need repair
Then I am the man to see
I whisper sweet things, you tell all your friends
They’ll come runnin’ to me
Here is the main thing that I want to say
I’m busy 24 hours a day
I fix broken hearts, I know that I truly can
Come-a, come-a, come-a, come-a, come, come
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Come-a, come-a, come-a, come-a, come, come, come
They’ll come runnin’ to me
Here is the main thing I want to say
I’m busy 24 hours a day
I fix broken hearts, baby I’m your MChandyman
