Madeleine McCann: Kate McCann Becomes Mum
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – I CRY EVERY DAY SAYS KATE”
“For the first time she reveals her torment” – Kate gives the papers what they want: tears
Pages 6 and 7: “Madleine’s mum: I can’t stop crying” – Kate McCann is no longer Kate McCann; she is above all things Madeleine’s mum
“Obviously nothing can compare with the night Madeleine went missing,” says mum. And Gerry – dad’s – worst moment? “I think when we were made suspects in our own daughter’s disappearance – when the inference was that Madeleine was dead and that, somehow, we were involved…”
Yes…
“But, no it can’t get any worse than that first night…”
DAILY MAIL page 7: “Some days I just can’t stop the tears, says Maddie’s mother”
“Second police chief quits the case” – Tavares Almeida has followed his boss Goncarlo Amaral and left the business of Madeleine McCann to another lucky Portuguese cop
DAILY MIRROR front page: “KATE McCANN SPEAKS AS NEVER BEFORE..Every day felt like a week”
Page 5: “Being named suspects, the idea that we were involved, was terrible. But NOTHING can compare to the trauma of the first night our Madeleine went missing”
Kate is a “locum GP”. Gerry is a “heart specialist”. These are the facts. And they remain unaltered
The couple give an interview as they visit the offices of the Leicester Mercury newspaper, where they are presented with a cheque for £57,000 from the sales of the Madeleine wristbands
THE SUN front page: “KATE’S MADDIE ORDEAL – NOTHING’S AS BAD AS THAT NIGHT. Mum tells of torment”
Page 6: “I weep for Maddie…but we still have hope”
Says Kate McCann: “I’ve had days when if I wasn’t crying for Madeleine, I was crying from the messages people have sent us”
The McCanns “say their lowest point…was when Portuguese police declared them ‘arguidos’ – formal suspects over their daughter’s disappearance”. So not the night Madeleine disappeared, as the Express says?
Gerry is a “cardiologist”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE – Kate: I cry for my daughter every day”
Page 8 and 9: “Finding Maddie had gone was far worse than being named suspect in killing”
THE TIMES page 14: “The twins are the only part of our lives that are normal”
Kate McCann says: “There is a semblance of normality returning. It’s more normal than it was three weeks ago, Amelie and Sean can see that. But really how can it be normal without Madeleine?”
THE INDEPENDENT page 8: “Second officer steps own from Madeleine inquiry” – Tavares Almeida. Bad Times, as Tavares were wont to say
THE GUARDIAN page 15: “Sacked Madeleine detective’s deputy seeks leave” – Senor Tavares. (Heaven Must be Missing An Angel)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “KATE McCANN: THE DAILY TORMENT OF LIFE WITHOUT MADELEINE”
Page 3: “The McCanns have kept Madeleine’s room the same as it was. The twins are allowed in for a few minutes - “Otherwise, the door remains closed most of the time”
Detectives make notes.

So any convicted sex offender can live in Portugual without the knowledge of the authorities and move around totally unrestricted?
The PJ (through no fault of their own) would not be aware of any convicted sex offenders in the PDL area in early May?

“Anyone mentioned the fact that there is no spare wheel well or spare wheel in a renault scenic?”
That’s interesting. So far I’ve read two accounts.
1. Forensic evidence was found in the spare wheel well
2. Forensic evidence was found under the boot upholstery
If it’s the second, then is that feesible? What’s under the boot upholstery?

“Interior space is first rate, six foot adults will have no trouble getting comfortable as long as they don’t mind a relatively upright seating position which is becoming much more common now. Luggage space is good, coping with our family luggage with no problems. Obviously all the rear seats are removable and can be moved back and forth and slightly reclined as well. I don’t like the spare wheel position, being situated under the boot floor which means unloading everything before getting to it. Luggage space is good also, the only bind being that the spare wheel is located in the boot floor, meaning everything has to be unpacked to get to it.”

“Britain not only has a register for all types of sexual crimes, but a specific list of individuals banned from teaching held by the Department for Education and Skills - List 99.
Do other countries have the same rules?
IN the EU countries only Ireland has similar legislation legally obliging sex offenders to notify authorities when they travel abroad.
Many European countries, including Portugal and Austria, don’t even have sex offenders’ registers.
Convicted rapists from the 27 other countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) - that is the EU plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein - can travel freely without having to disclose their history.”
–
So those who believe in the paedophile behind every bush theory had better find out which of the many European countries don’t have registers before travelling.
Better still, stay in the UK, or maybe America, they have great lists of sex-offenders and as a result are totally safe! Ha.

I guess it is the same self-determination and will to persevere in fight against the odds that drove the McCanns to become doctors, so it should come as no surprise that they should do the same for their daughter. After all, we all benefit from(and some live thanks to) their careers,so it is only fair to give something back,or aleast let them get on with it.

Anyone mentioned the fact that there is no spare wheel well or spare wheel in a renault scenic?
instead the 2 options are
1. Canister to inflate the punctured tyre to get you to the nearest tyre retailer.
2. Some countries offer the option to put the spare wheel under the car.
Appreciate any feedback on this,

41 - Helena.
Well, we are not trying to manipulate an integral police investigation are we.
We are not trying to threaten the police or the judges to drop the case are we.
We are not using high political figures to affect the course of an integral investigation are we.
We are not playing down not only all the sightings but also all the evidence are we.
We are not lobbying for the truth to come out globally and publically - er… hopefully we are. We are parents and grown-ups.
We are not changing our statements all the time are we?
What else?

“The narcissist cannot afford to be rejected, spurned, insulted, hurt, resisted, criticized, or disagreed with. Likewise, the killer is trying desperately to avoid a painful relationship with his object of desire. He is terrified of being abandoned or humiliated, exposed for what he is and then discarded.”
I hope Kate reads anorak

Helena - It is my third birthday tomorrow, would you like to come to my party, you don’t have anything else to do.
Funny how all Mccann supporters condemn us for having nothing else to do and yet here they are.
Please bring me a present if you are coming.
By the way your mommy can just drop you on the street corner.
My uncle will be looking after us.
October 5th, 2007 at 11:07 am
To all us South African who suggested Danie Krugel be brought in……..apparently he WAS in July (this is london posting). They were bombarded by mails to get him on the case. The Mccanns called him in and his “findings” lead to the dogs being brought in (or soemthing like that)

Roger, I’m 43 with 2 adult children and a six month old granddaughter. If it had been my daughter who had left her little girl alone and gone out on the lash the press would have been all over her like a cheap suit and she would have been prosecuted! Amazing what you can get away with if you are a “respectable” doctor, isn’t it?
October 5th, 2007 at 11:07 am
I just want to clear up a couple of points.
I do believe that reconstruction and simulation of various different theories may produce some answers that may prove pivitol to solving the dilema of what actually happened to Maddie, which in itself will greatly improve the chances of finding her.
IMO All (reasonable) theories need to be reconstructed, where possible whether in entirity or parts there of.
I am not aware of how much reconstructive work has been carried out so far in this case, but would be glad to hear any information anyone has.
It is important that in order for any reconstruction to be of value that all parties co-operate fully!

Hi take a look at today’s Belfast Telegraph with psychic Kate Houston’s interview. Is she referring to the persons in the centre of the investigation?
October 5th, 2007 at 11:05 am
I’m not sure I understand all the fuss about the findings of the sniffer dogs.
1 - PJ always sad that in Portuguese courts “dogs are not allowed to give evidnece in court” and that videos of dogs reactions are not accepted as evidence. They emphasised that the dogs are only suggestive of some investigation lines.
2 - Could this case in the US be taken as jurisprudence or have any relevance in portugal - even if the accusation was to present dog reactions as evidence in court? answer = NO
3 - What we seem to overlook in this is the following: Why has british police recommended to bring these two dogs into Portugal? If you’re investigating an abduction, you don’t necessarily need dogs that identify smell of death (Important Note: these are not convential sniffer dogs that identify the smell of bodies - they are trained to identify evidence of death).
If you add 1, 2 and 3 you’ll easily realise that this is just another attempt by the McCanns PR machine to discredit the investigation (like the attempts to dismiss DNA evidence). Believe it if you want.

Helena I did wonder about the age of people here, because values change over time. They are not 2, that’s for sure, but are we 60 +. Anyone willing to volunteer so we can see whether its a grandparents’ generation holding forth, whether its the McCann’s generation? Or earlier still? Can we do a poll?
I’m 50s with 2 very young primary school children.

41 Helena You managed to use over 100 words to explain how you cannot find the words to say how you feel! I hate to think how many pages you’ll fill when you DO find the words
