Madeleine McCann: Danie Krugel Is The Locator, Gerry McCanns The Roof And Paedo Alert
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “Maddie was alive on beach”
“A renowned international manhunt expert, dubbed The Locator, sensationally revealed he has uncovered a telltale DNA trail left by snatched toddler Maddie McCann”
THE LOCATOR – in the papers and all over Praia da Luz from Sunday (see press for details). Anyone else see a made-for-TV series or a fly-on-the-wall documentary?
Ex-cop Danie Krugel has tracked the “forensic route” he believed her kidnapper took from her Madeleine’s Portuguese holiday apartment. It ends on the beach
Says Krugel: I spent four nights in July carrying out my searches. I’ve been able to trace where Madeleine was in the resort and have drawn a map which has been given to the police.
“I can’t reveal details as I don’t want to alert anyone who might try to disturb the scene. But I believe I’ve traced where she was taken that night and now it’s down to police to use their search experts to do the rest. The area to which my investigation led me is a difficult one to search”
Disturb the scene? The beach at a popular tourist destination made famous by the disappearance of a little girl? Yes, best not disturb that. And tell the wind and the tide to stop, too
A source “close” to the McCanns says: “The work of Mr Krugel should not be underestimated and gives great hope to Gerry and Kate. Many people have contacted the couple to try to help but while their hearts may be in the right place they just don’t have the expertise to be of assistance. But Mr Krugel has a proven record of finding people and his methods are extremely credible”
Like this credible helper. And this one. And this one. And this one…
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION – BOYFINDER CALLED IN”
• McCanns hire leading DNA expert
• He pinpoints area on local beach
• New cops urged to start digging
And fishing…
“Desperate Kate and Gerry McCann” sent a strand of Madeleine’s hair to South African police colonel Danie Krugel. The Locator has located the spot where Madeleine’s body is buried
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “WOMAN WHO COST MADDIE FUND £51K”
“Anguished Gerry McCann sensationally split from the expert masterminding the worldwide hunt for his missing daughter Madeleine after she put in a whopping £20,000 overtime and expenses bill”
PR Justine McGuinness charged Gerry and wife Kate £51,000 for 89 days’ work. “Her basic fee was £350 a day, making a total of £31,000. And the rest was made up in overtime payments and expenses - including bar and restaurant bills”
A source says Gerry saw the bill and “hit the roof”. He was “livid”
So she went. And was replaced by Clarence Mitchell
“Gerry was the only one who wanted Clarence,” readers learn. “He was determined to get him after building a strong relationship with him in Portugal. But nobody else wanted him because he had given Kate and Gerry - what some of the family thought of as - questionable advice”
Can the McCanns’ PRs get a PR before their names and sullied?
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “New police chief turns screw on McCanns”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “MPs demand record of child-tracking devices over paedophile fears”
Oh?
“New laws to regulate the use of high-tech child-tracking devices are being called for by MPs amid fears they could be used by paedophiles and stalkers. The technology is aimed at parents wanting to keep tabs on their children after a series of high-profile child murders and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann”
Maybe all adults should be chipped instead? Or children paedo-proofed - why let it ruin your holiday?
THE TIMES: “Detective who suspected Kate and Gerry McCann may lead hunt”
Luis Neves, 41, is seen as a forerunner to replace Goncarlo Amaral as lead detective. He was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team.
“But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment”
Or will it be Carlos do Carmo? He has no previous connection with the case, and was Amaral’s predecessor as director of the police in Portimao. The Times says he earned the respect of colleagues after bringing the killer of a police officer to justice
Who will it be: Carmo or Neves? Press your keypads now!
Or C: The British Supercop?
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: “Police have open minds, insists Kate McCann”
“Kate and Gerry McCann are ‘furious’ at Portuguese police claims that British detectives believe their missing daughter Madeleine is dead”
Says Kate McCann to friends: “The police have told us they have an open mind. Of course we accept it’s possible Madeleine may no longer be alive but we don’t know and nor do the police, so we have to do everything we can to find her”
Clarence Mitchell refuses to comment on “the latest unfounded, unsubstantiated rumours”
A source says: “”Quite how any child would die falling off a sofa is beyond me”
She fell off the sofa? Really…
THE OBSERVER: “Forensic DNA tests ‘reveal traces of Madeleine’s body on resort beach’”
“Retired” South African police superintendent Daniel Krugel is on the beach
Are you?

Are you going to enlighten us as to why British police/politicians would cover up this story Judith?
I’m hoping for your sake the answer doesn’t involve aliens.

Judith C. are you a plant for the Portugese police? After reading just afew posts I think you must be. Or you are psychotic.

So give me one good reason why anyone would give a damn whether or not the McCanns are guilty, apart from the McCanns, of course? Do you seriously think the PM gives a toss? Do you seriously think the Pope even remembers? (Probably doesn’t even know who the UK PM is without a reminder!) I can assure you that the UK media will be THRILLED if the McCanns are guilty. Field day time. And if British dogs/scientists helped to prove the case, so much the better. The UK police would be smug as anything to think they helped nail the culprits.
These people are not rotaly or pwerful in any way. They are a couple of doctors who went on holiday with their kids and a few friends.
I’ afraid that, as usual, you simply revert to personal abuse to try to make a point, Judith C. Why?! Are you not sure enough of the points you wish to make to be able to state them without personal abuse?

If you had oh whoops accidentally killed your child (yeah right), would you call in a specialist who had successfully found 5 children?
Especially given that you were blessed with an incompetent police force who had a major suspect at the time & it wasn’t you?

Batman-the timings and excuses ie child being sick have always intrigued me due to inconsistancies of stories.
What was the point of the meal with all those alleged comings and goings hardly time to strike up a conversation never mind peruse menu, wine list, quiz questions?
Were there that many comings and goings every night?
They would all look like even worse parents if they didn’t say they were checking the children so much.
Didn’t someone at the Tapas bar(aerobics instructor think)say only one man left the table in all the time she was there.
Is all the evidence the FSS have in connection with an accident or do they have something to substantiate the abduction theory?
Imagine if nothing is ever confirmed.
Apart from the Rosewood report(not sure if thats the right name)has anyone else official come up with the scenario that she may have been put in the sea/tidal flow/seasonal tide changes. I know someone on here answered me before with the idea she could have been taken in a boat and weighted down out at sea. The boat thing would need a bit more planning and time to organise.
Didn’t the aerobics teacher also say she saw a man in a boat on night Madeleine went missing ,acting strangely?
So many questions, would be nice to have answers for Madeleines sake.

I read the McScamms are screaming for the PJ to dig on the beach as a result of Krugel’s following a scent in Praia de Luz - is he a person or a dog? - but anyway, Gerry’s a big strong bloke, not working or anything - can’t he go over and grab a spade and start digging? If it was my kid I’d be there like a shot - but then again, I wouldn’t have run out of Portugal as fast as my legs could carry me in the first place.
Why should the reviled Portuguese police, who’ve probably had two-thirds of the whole police manpower of their small country involved in this case so far, do any more? What they have done has certainly not been appreciated. Just the reverse.

Matty. The abduction theory, in my opinion, falls down on two counts. Firstly there is not evidence. Secondly, the timelines would not allow it.
PORTUGAL TV
OCT 5 2007
Moita Flores talks about the timings of their comings and goings from and to the restaurant as given by the McCann’s and their friends:
20.30 Kate and Gerry arrive at at the restaurant
20.45 Russell, Matthew and Rachel arrive at the restaurant
20.55 David and Fiona arrive at the restaurant
21.00 Gerry leaves to
go to the apartment
(His story is that the abductor is already in the apartment at this time
21.05 Gerry meets Jeremy on the way back and chats for a while
21.10 Jane Tanner arrives at the restaurant
21.25 Gerry arrives
back at the restaurant
21.25 Matthew goes back to the apartments
21.30 Russell goes back to the apartments to check if his daughter is still being sick
21.35 Matthew is back
at the restaurant
21.55 Russell is back at the restaurant
21.55 all are now present at the restaurant
22.00 Kate goes back
to the apartment and raises the alarm that Madeleine is missing
At this time, according to their testimony, they are all back at the restaurant, and Moita Flores tells us that it is obvious with all these comings and goings
from the apartments to the restaurant, that it would be impossible for an abductor to enter
the apartment, take Madeleine and get away with her without being readily observed.
—————————–
Of course they could have been lying and actually no checks were made, in which case an abductor would have had much more time. BUT, if they did lie - then what else have they lied about?
So, I can see your logic, and am open to be proven wrong, but until then I am sticking with my theory they know more than they are saying - and it points to accidental death.
Kick off looming.

Batman- the abduction scenario sits easier with going on the facts we have. Madeleine went missing at the end of the holiday and Mcs had set up a regular routine of kids in bed 7.30 then off out. Any would be abductor had nearly a full week of watching and noting times/comings and goings/regular checks????/vicinity of Tapas bar to apartment/ view of apartment and escape route view from Tapas bar.
Years ago when I managed a retail outlet our headoffice wouldn’t allow the funds for us to use the services of Securicor to bank the takings. We had to take the takings ourselves to the bank. So aware were we of the fact someone could be watching our activities we staggered the timings of the banking, changed routes to the bank and used different bags each time to transport the money in.
I am not saying the Mcs should have went out at 8.00 one night and 9.00 the next/change venue etc. My risk assesment was on the shop takings. Their risk assesment was on their childrens wellbeing
Succumbed to an accident has a lot of ifs and buts without the crucial evidence from the FSS. Bit too many ifs and buts to get my head round although I am open to discussion on any scenario with any new information that is leaked through Aunty Phil.

No, I agree, we can’t know, but it does strike me as odd to keep pushing for more and more thorough searches, involving the UK police as well, if you are guilty of killing or covering up the death of your child. They are not stupid. They were well aware of the fact that Madeleine could have been dead so pushing for every possible measure to find her automatically meant that the risks would have been greater of something being found to link them to her death.
I suspect that, if guilty, they would have just kept quiet, rejoiced in any lack of specialist expertise on the part of the Portuguese and gone home very early on.
The insistence on Madeleine being alive was, and I’m afraid probably still is, a desperate hope and a feeling that they cannot give up on the search, just in case. After all, from their point of view (if they are innocent) then they have not yet had any definite proof that she’s dead.
It depends on how long you could go on looking and hoping.
Of course I recognise that none of us can know anything for certain. If evidence emerges that they have killed Madeleine, or covered up a fatal accident for some unknown reason, then I will simply say my hunch that they are innocent was wrong. I know I occasionally lapse into sarcasm but I’m really, genuinely, only looking at probabilities now. The likely timeline and opportunities and what we know of them from ALL their friends and colleagues, who seem to be decent people, just makes it look unlikely to me that they are guilty of that sort of crime.

Gerry hitting the roof..
Justine McGuinness was under immense pressure. Pay her, she was worth it.
If we, were to ask for an account of what G&K’s living expenses were abroad, would we hit the roof?
Poor old Justine, a scapegoat and a diversion.
She earned her money.

(An aside for NOSEYCOW.) Is Riddle allowed outside yet? Our kittens are 16 weeks old now and have only just been allowed into the garden in the last week - under constant supervision, I might add. Need to give them a run around before the rugby match - S. Africa vs. Fiji.
October 7th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Matty - know what you are saying. We have different ideas about what happened. You think abduction, I think accidental death. No problem, each is a possibility. That is not my point.
There is a monumental difference between considering that Madeleine died as a result of an accident (and subsequence cover-up) and saying the McCanns murdered their child. And some posters here seem to think that if you do not buy the abduction theory, then you are automatically suggesting murder. Probably because it easier to attack!!!
Sorry couldn’t put the number beside your post. V. annoying new layout.
October 7th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Dora - can’t see the numbers
Doen’t matter about your upbringing. G&K are Glaswegian and Liverpudlian respectively, draw your own conclusions. Safety is a measure of your spatial awareness of the surroundings and imminent threats. The photo posts/links on yesterdays’ blog showed the winding path between Tapas and apartment. Would you have let you under 4’s in an unlocked apt. that was easy to access from side streets and was not visible from the bar?

Might not have been Fatima. I don’t think they had the car then? Probably they are thought to have reburied the body on the way to Huelva a few weeks later? (Might have been while the cameraman who was with them went to the loo.)
Anyway, I thought it was KM not GM who was suspected of the actual killing?
October 7th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
matty - actually..thinking about it…may have been the electricity man…not sure ..but he had a nice uniform on.. blue …I think… no maybe black, anyway he seemed nice, 5ft 10″, no …..more like 5ft 7″, still the kids are quiet…perhaps i’ve drunk too much …coffee!!

Edit…..
I think a lot of this increased activity did follow requests from the McCanns who actually kept pushing for more thorough searches for Madeleine, from the early hours of 4th May, from all that I’ve read.
I suppose this constant pushing on their side is one of the reasons why I’ve doubted their guilt. Of course, if the evidence is to the contrary, I will have been wrong in that view!
++++++++++++++
The suggestion that they pushed for more thorough searches can be read in different ways. E.g. They believed Madeleine was alive and wanted to keep the focus on finding her, or they had a vested interest in keeping up the illusion of the abduction scenario. Neither you nor I know which is true currently.
October 7th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Gerry McCann’s “temper” or “moodiness”.
First, Heaven help most of us if the odd photo of us looking less than hilariously happy is going to be taken as evidence we’re probably child-killers. How many of us have “hit the roof” about things now and then? (If indeed these newspaper reports have any truth in them.) I’m just about to destroy all our family albums just in CASE!
Secondly, my understanding was that the PJ asked KM to confess that SHE killed Madeleine, accidentally or otherwise, that GM helped her hide the body on the night before they went to dinner at the tapas bar and that he helped her weeks later to find the body again, carry it away in the hire car and bury it somewhere else, possibly during their pilgrimage to Fatima? That seems to be what she told her sister-in-law. In any case, the police suggestions, such as they’ve been leaked (so admittedly probably rubbish), always suggest KM did the killing, not GM.
Now KM is reputedly the calmest and gentlest of people. Indeed, some Anorak posters have criticised her bitterly for her very calmness and composure.
October 7th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Noseycow-lucky you having a postman to check on your kids. Ours have gone on strike so no baby listening service or letters for a week or so. Good thing about that is that all my bills will be out of sight and out of mind.
October 7th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Batman- accidental death is still a hard one for me to speculate without a crucial confirmed last siting of Madeleine. If she did succumb to an accident what time frame would there be to accident/cover up/hide body/compose self/settle other children/go for meal.
October 7th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
I’m off now - my times up. Even though its hard to stick to my Anorak addiction withdrawel programme….still its been at least half an hour since I checked up on the kids…..but the postman listened at the door to the cupboard under the stairs and said all was quiet…so perhaps i can leave it another few mins….

Don’t know of anyone here who is thinking about ‘murder’. Accidental death - yes, but to suggest they ‘killed’ Madeleine introduces emotional overtones which I think are being used to discredit those posters who have serious doubts about the McCanns innocence. Just my opinion of course.
