Madeleine McCann: Danie Krugel Is The Locator, Gerry McCanns The Roof And Paedo Alert
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “Maddie was alive on beach”
“A renowned international manhunt expert, dubbed The Locator, sensationally revealed he has uncovered a telltale DNA trail left by snatched toddler Maddie McCann”
THE LOCATOR – in the papers and all over Praia da Luz from Sunday (see press for details). Anyone else see a made-for-TV series or a fly-on-the-wall documentary?
Ex-cop Danie Krugel has tracked the “forensic route” he believed her kidnapper took from her Madeleine’s Portuguese holiday apartment. It ends on the beach
Says Krugel: I spent four nights in July carrying out my searches. I’ve been able to trace where Madeleine was in the resort and have drawn a map which has been given to the police.
“I can’t reveal details as I don’t want to alert anyone who might try to disturb the scene. But I believe I’ve traced where she was taken that night and now it’s down to police to use their search experts to do the rest. The area to which my investigation led me is a difficult one to search”
Disturb the scene? The beach at a popular tourist destination made famous by the disappearance of a little girl? Yes, best not disturb that. And tell the wind and the tide to stop, too
A source “close” to the McCanns says: “The work of Mr Krugel should not be underestimated and gives great hope to Gerry and Kate. Many people have contacted the couple to try to help but while their hearts may be in the right place they just don’t have the expertise to be of assistance. But Mr Krugel has a proven record of finding people and his methods are extremely credible”
Like this credible helper. And this one. And this one. And this one…
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION – BOYFINDER CALLED IN”
• McCanns hire leading DNA expert
• He pinpoints area on local beach
• New cops urged to start digging
And fishing…
“Desperate Kate and Gerry McCann” sent a strand of Madeleine’s hair to South African police colonel Danie Krugel. The Locator has located the spot where Madeleine’s body is buried
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “WOMAN WHO COST MADDIE FUND £51K”
“Anguished Gerry McCann sensationally split from the expert masterminding the worldwide hunt for his missing daughter Madeleine after she put in a whopping £20,000 overtime and expenses bill”
PR Justine McGuinness charged Gerry and wife Kate £51,000 for 89 days’ work. “Her basic fee was £350 a day, making a total of £31,000. And the rest was made up in overtime payments and expenses - including bar and restaurant bills”
A source says Gerry saw the bill and “hit the roof”. He was “livid”
So she went. And was replaced by Clarence Mitchell
“Gerry was the only one who wanted Clarence,” readers learn. “He was determined to get him after building a strong relationship with him in Portugal. But nobody else wanted him because he had given Kate and Gerry - what some of the family thought of as - questionable advice”
Can the McCanns’ PRs get a PR before their names and sullied?
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “New police chief turns screw on McCanns”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “MPs demand record of child-tracking devices over paedophile fears”
Oh?
“New laws to regulate the use of high-tech child-tracking devices are being called for by MPs amid fears they could be used by paedophiles and stalkers. The technology is aimed at parents wanting to keep tabs on their children after a series of high-profile child murders and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann”
Maybe all adults should be chipped instead? Or children paedo-proofed - why let it ruin your holiday?
THE TIMES: “Detective who suspected Kate and Gerry McCann may lead hunt”
Luis Neves, 41, is seen as a forerunner to replace Goncarlo Amaral as lead detective. He was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team.
“But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment”
Or will it be Carlos do Carmo? He has no previous connection with the case, and was Amaral’s predecessor as director of the police in Portimao. The Times says he earned the respect of colleagues after bringing the killer of a police officer to justice
Who will it be: Carmo or Neves? Press your keypads now!
Or C: The British Supercop?
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: “Police have open minds, insists Kate McCann”
“Kate and Gerry McCann are ‘furious’ at Portuguese police claims that British detectives believe their missing daughter Madeleine is dead”
Says Kate McCann to friends: “The police have told us they have an open mind. Of course we accept it’s possible Madeleine may no longer be alive but we don’t know and nor do the police, so we have to do everything we can to find her”
Clarence Mitchell refuses to comment on “the latest unfounded, unsubstantiated rumours”
A source says: “”Quite how any child would die falling off a sofa is beyond me”
She fell off the sofa? Really…
THE OBSERVER: “Forensic DNA tests ‘reveal traces of Madeleine’s body on resort beach’”
“Retired” South African police superintendent Daniel Krugel is on the beach
Are you?

Manon-I guess when you are desperate you’ll try anything.
I think the statement you made about the Mcs being desperate to find Madeleine is exactly what has perplexed a lot of people , especially on this site ie visits to places that were of no benefit in finding Madeleine.

Do any of you guys know any people involved in code breaking.
Again I have read of the possibility of Gerry’s blog being in order
to give information out.
He knew he was being monitored and bugged.
I mean we all mock it and its Enid Blyton stance, but seriously I think
that is the clue.
We need some boffins at code breaking.
Come on it beats watching rugby.

The newspaper editors just want to sell papers. At the moment they think they can sell papers by siding with the culprits. As soon as it suits them they will surely switch allegience and sell even more papers. They can’t lose really…

Hi Maria. Half time in the rugby! Your posts are good and I think you always raise interesting questions. You ask many questions and many have been discussed already and it is repititious to go over the same ground over and over. (eg. DNA, dogs, blood etc)
However, a couple of other fundamental things you asked were - why cover up an accidental death? I think this is the key and we just don’t know.
How did they appear so normal? It may have happened earlier, in the afternoon, so plenty of time available to re-group. My perception of KM is not of someone how is calm - instead I see a cold, detached and unemotional person. She may be drugged up of course. GM is different, and he has many of the classical PND characteristics which would mean he would have no problem involving as many experts etc. as possible, because he would believe he was cleverer than any of them.
Will you now try to answer a couple of my own lingering questions please!
Why did they insist from within 30 seconds (source - their own interviews) that it was abduction and that M could not possibly have wandered off?
What credible evidence is there of abduction?
Would be genuinely interested in your opinion. Like you Maria, I have my own hunch, but realise that there are many many gaps in ALL possible scenarios.

But it is Kate who is suspected of killing her child, or covering up an accidental death, not Gerry. She was asked to make a confession to that effect. gerry is seen by the PJ as having helped to hide the body etc. etc.
In any case, as said earlier, it will be a sad day for justice when the odd photo of someone looking (possibly) less than ecstatically happy leads to their being accused of infanticide.
I have now BURNED all my photo albums and deleted all photos from my computer, just in case, you know!
And I NEVER intend to show the slightest irritation or annoyance at anything ever again, just again it’s taken to imply that I’m a murderer, sedate my children or have recently buried a relative’s body unlawfully (after storing it for a few weeks in a fridge or on Bournemouth beach).

Maybe the question should have been “When did you first start sedating your children?”
To Maddy “When did you last see your father?”
******************************************************************
I hope you don’t think I was implying Mrs McCann sedated her children as I was implying the opposite. And if she did (roll eyes) - she would know exactly how much so as not to kill them!

Gerry’s not so calm today…he hit the roof and had a furious showdown with Justine McGuiness when he had to pay her for her work including her drinking expenses.
But surely Gerry must understand how fast a bill runs up…weren’t the Tappas 9 downing 14 botles of wine between 9.30 and 10?
That would be 9 glasses each.
Very respunsible parents indeed.

Manon-it is the first I had heard of Krugel aswell and I have never implied the Mcs killed Madeleine. Apart from the article on the Guardian site this is the first that I read that the Mcs hired him in July. Going on what limited information we have about Krugel and his success rate and methods of finding people I can only speculate as to whether the Mcs hired him or not and whether it will be beneficial in finding Madeleine. If he was hired in July how long does it normally take for him to get results ie the 5 children he has found already.
******************************************************************
I’ve no idea how long it would take, and I must confess I’m a bit skeptical as to his methods, not helped by the blog link. But I guess when you’re desperate you’ll try anything. The Guardian/Observer are fairly reliable and I would be surprised if they got it wrong that the McCanns had hired/requested him.

So give me one good reason why anyone would give a damn whether or not the McCanns are guilty, apart from the McCanns, of course? Do you seriously think the PM gives a toss? Do you seriously think the Pope even remembers? (Probably doesn’t even know who the UK PM is without a reminder!) I can assure you that the UK media will be THRILLED if the McCanns are guilty. Field day time. And if British dogs/scientists helped to prove the case, so much the better. The UK police would be smug as anything to think they helped nail the culprits.
These people are not rotaly or pwerful in any way. They are a couple of doctors who went on holiday with their kids and a few friends.
I’ afraid that, as usual, you simply revert to personal abuse to try to make a point, Judith C. Why?! Are you not sure enough of the points you wish to make to be able to state them without personal abuse?
If “these people are not rotaly or pwerful (sic) in any way (I assume you mean powerful, I’m not too sure what rotaly means)….why did they have a Foreign office official, Clarence Mitchell, seconded to them immediately the child went missing; why did Gordon Brown lean on the Portuguese police to state that ‘an abductor’ was in the frame (and issue a photofit of an egg-head with no features which was provided by O’Brien’s partner Jane Tanner)? So yes, the PM does give “a toss”. Why did our Foreign Secretary Jacqui Smith meet with the McCanns on their return to the UK? Why have the police been forced to deny the value of a lot of the evidence they themselves have provided to the Portuguese police? Why have all the UK papers bar none gone with the McCann spin and changed stories while mis-reporting that which came directly out of Portugal? and so on, and so on….
If you had taken the time and trouble to read the more sensible posts on this forum over the last few weeks you would have read all that I have mentioned above in far greater detail with back-up links and references. You should think, read and evaluate before writing reams of liberal nonsense. If you think this is “personal abuse”, so be it.
Oh, and as for the Pope he sure “remembers”. He took the McCanns off the Vatican web-site the moment they were made suspects on September 8th. And so what if the UK media will be “THRILLED” if the McCanns are found guilty. What point are you trying to make there?
October 7th, 2007 at 2:39 pm
27 Peter O I really tend to agree with you. First, agree with ALL who decry the Mickey C’s way of handling childcare. No one in their right mind would leave three under-4-year olds alone in a foreign country, out of sight, out of earshot, checking on them at best every half hour, for a number of hours. Any reasonably sensible parent would think things like “What if my baby wakes up from a nightmare, cries for me, and no one’s there?” This, coupled with the August TV interview where both parents say “Madeleine has a sense of danger” - a statement with little or no sense on the face of it - leads me to know in a flash that these are not people with whom I could be close friends. The imagination takes over from here.
Having had a serious relationship with a good doctor with a sometimes-wired son, I know that a medico can easily turn to thoughts of medication to quiet a kid for a good night’s sleep. Wouldn’t seem impossible for the McC’s to have relied on this for a “safe” evening away from three toddlers whose daily care must have required a lot of energy.
Next, if indeed K-k-k-katie did yell “They’ve taken her” when Maddie’s disappearance was discovered, and instantly become a bowl of jelly rather than desperately look for Maddie OR grab and hang on to the twins for dear life, we’ve gone another step into this La-la Land. Again, this tells me I don’t think I’d like these people to have been my parents…
And then there’s your point about lack of remorse. Would be a good use of all of this money to warn other parents of the danger of leaving their children inadequately supervised. You’d think the PR would come up with that for image purposes at least.

COMMENT – Have you EVER sedated …. Is a VERY open question. Answering yes would have inevitably lead to lurid headlines that they had admitted to sedating their children without any qualification as to how and when. Also, it’s an extension of the issue about the rumour mongers trying to build a case of something other than the abduction scenario.
******************************************************************
Also bear in mind that Mrs McCann originally trained as an anaesthetist so she would know exactly what she was doing with “sedation” ( how much etc).
The sedation theory sprung from the Portuguese police’s surprise that the twins slept through the kerfuffle surrounding M’s disappearance. They haven’t met my nephews who do exactly the same. I don’t believe for a minute police found syringes/ sedatives in the appartment, otherwise they would have come forward & said so & produced the evidence, and the McCanns would have commented. It’s only ever been gossip.

GERRY MCCANN’S ANGER
=========================
There is quite a bit of material available on Gerry McCann’s temperament. I sense a suppressed anger, some sense of deep frustration/ disappointment with his life or perhaps even more fundamentally with himself. And of course with the way the investigation is going.
It made me wonder whether, if one of the parents had lost their temper with Madeleine on 3rd May, it might have been Gerry himself.
COMMENT – You/we can wonder all we like – It may be prudent for police officers involved in the case to consider these sorts of possibilities – When we do it, it’s little more than armchair prattle, and in general not very well balanced considerations by EITHER the pro or ant McCann lobbies. Much of what you have stated as pseudo ‘fact’ could be argued the other way by the pro-McCann’s.
Here is what we have on the public record so far:
COMMENT – Is mostly unverifiable leaks, rumours and speculation from alleged sources close to some party allegedly involved in or subject to the investigation
1. Video of Gerry on bus with others - I think a bus to and from the plane, I am not sure. Gerry moodily sits on the bus on his own in the corner. Twins’ heads are being stroked affectionately by Kate. Children not looking at their father and father not looking at family. Sittting away fro meach other, Gerry as far away from Kate as possible. Cameraman says to Gerry something like: ‘Com’on Gerry, loosen up.You’re on holiday! It’s faint, but Gerry appears to say ‘F___ off’. Everyone else in the video clip appears to be enjoying their holiday
COMMENT – Maybe he had a crap journey, maybe he hates flying, maybe the kids had travelled badly, maybe he still had work on his mind, maybe he was thinking of all the things they forgot to pack, maybe he was thinking of all the things they forgot to do/switch off/cancel before they left home and yes, maybe he is just a grumpy sod.
2. Alleged last photo of Madeleine. Gerry in sunglasses looking moodily at camera while Madeleine laughs at something off camera
COMMENT – I know of at least one lady who described him in that picture as having smouldering good looks. Maybe he was just tired. Kids can be pretty full on and demanding you know.
3. Sol newspaer reports Gerry McCann as incandescent with rage when their reporter starts asking penetrating questions about the timelines of the evening and he says ‘Don’t you realise what you are doing - leave things to the PJ” (!) - see Sol newspaper report June 2007
COMMENT – It’s a newspaper report! Ergo, you don’t even know if the substance of the report is true let alone the alleged level of his rage. That aside, the McCann’s haven’t actually been charged with anything yet, you know, they MIGHT be innocent, so his reaction (if true) might be understandable if Madeleine really was abducted by a stranger and what he saw was some newspaper hack raising spurious lines of enquiry.
4. Gerry so angry with Portuguese police that he threatens to sue them for not releasing a description the suspect (when PJ is forced to do so by pressure from Gordonm Brown, they less-than-half-heartedly issue Jane Tanner’s description)
COMMENT – Do you have a verifiable source for his alleged threat or anger? Again, if the abduction was true, why wouldn’t he be grumpy about the PJ’s inability to issue a description of the only known suspect after some time into the enquiry?
5. Gerry angry with PJ for releasing the ‘wrong’ description of the suspect as being about 175cm (5′ 10″) tall. He says: “No, it was a shorter man, 5′ 7″ or 170cm”. Issues statement through sources: “It’s not
good enough”
COMMENT – Do you have a verifiable source for his alleged anger?
6. Gerry walks out of interview with Spanish journalist when asked a sensitive question abouth the investigation into Madeleine’s
‘disappearance’
COMMENT – Myriad possibilities to this one… I think the incident you refer to was some weeks/months after May 3rd? Consider again that if the abduction is true, it’s not unreasonable to be thoroughly hacked off at journos heading off in unhelpful directions.
7. Gerry clearly irritated with question with Spanish journalist about whether or not he has ever sedated any of his children…whilst at the same time exhibiting 6 common tell-tale signs of lying
8. Gerry’s anger with PJ when he comes under suspicion of covering up Madeleine’s death and being involved in her ‘disappearance’
COMMENT – Verifiable source? I think I’d be pretty angry at this if I knew I was completely innocent! (Oddly, their LACK of anger at this point in the investigation is the main reason why I am NOT wholly convinced of their innocence.)
9. ‘Hit the roof’ when he foud his hired hand, the PR lady, was claiming massive amounts of overtime.
COMMENT – Newspaper reports, they sometimes embellish the truth you know?
I suspect there’s quite a lot more

It would be really appreciated if you could restore the former layout of this site. This layout is awful, the font is spidery and old-fashioned, I can’t get the numbers on the left-hand side and there is a huge blank space on the right hand side. Could you give us some idea why you have changed the site? It was great before. And the ‘Abuse’ stuff!! Why is that being rammed down our throats now in such major detail? When I tried posting the day before yesterday I got a picture of “Anorak” himself glaring at me through his spectacles. I can’t help linking this with the change of the site. Is it on orders from above to drive us all away? because it’s not a pleasure to come on it any more.

I have never heard of this man before, and I have no opinion on his effectiveness, but that doesn’t alter my point - if he is publicly, generally believed to have found five children, would you hire him if you were trying to cover up killing your child?
October 7th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Sorry if I’m being a little slow on the uptake but could someone please enlighten me as to what Krugel is looking for and who is hiring him? Some reports suggest he is following a live trail but not sure what that means-other reports say he is seeking a body. Has this guy got the talents of a sniffer dog or have I missed a bit?
Even if he locates a body it does’nt clear the Mccanns or prove who put her there.
October 7th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Batman
I can see what you are saying IF that timeline is right. (Who knows? How can she possibly know? Surely only the police know? The McCanns aren’t allowed to tell us yet.)
In any case, when do they have time to hide the body, bury it on the beach, row out to sea, cut it up to put it in a fridge etc and be back to enjoy the meal and quiz?
There is AS YET no evidence of sedation, so why should they cover up an accident anyway? Temper loss? But the PJ suggest it was KM who killed her child and that GM helped hide the body. KM is reputedly the calmest of people. (Too calm many here say!) What kind of accident needs to be covered up? Surely even a temper loss accident would be easier to disguise as an innocent accident than the construction of this world-wide hoax complete Paul daniels-type disappearances, unnoticed reappearances, second burials etc?
And how did they manage to appear so normal to everyone until the moment of discovery at which point they were able to fool everyone into thinking they were distraught, desperate, disorientated with shock, grieving etc?
