Madeleine McCann: Danie Krugel Is The Locator, Gerry McCanns The Roof And Paedo Alert
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “Maddie was alive on beach”
“A renowned international manhunt expert, dubbed The Locator, sensationally revealed he has uncovered a telltale DNA trail left by snatched toddler Maddie McCann”
THE LOCATOR – in the papers and all over Praia da Luz from Sunday (see press for details). Anyone else see a made-for-TV series or a fly-on-the-wall documentary?
Ex-cop Danie Krugel has tracked the “forensic route” he believed her kidnapper took from her Madeleine’s Portuguese holiday apartment. It ends on the beach
Says Krugel: I spent four nights in July carrying out my searches. I’ve been able to trace where Madeleine was in the resort and have drawn a map which has been given to the police.
“I can’t reveal details as I don’t want to alert anyone who might try to disturb the scene. But I believe I’ve traced where she was taken that night and now it’s down to police to use their search experts to do the rest. The area to which my investigation led me is a difficult one to search”
Disturb the scene? The beach at a popular tourist destination made famous by the disappearance of a little girl? Yes, best not disturb that. And tell the wind and the tide to stop, too
A source “close” to the McCanns says: “The work of Mr Krugel should not be underestimated and gives great hope to Gerry and Kate. Many people have contacted the couple to try to help but while their hearts may be in the right place they just don’t have the expertise to be of assistance. But Mr Krugel has a proven record of finding people and his methods are extremely credible”
Like this credible helper. And this one. And this one. And this one…
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION – BOYFINDER CALLED IN”
• McCanns hire leading DNA expert
• He pinpoints area on local beach
• New cops urged to start digging
And fishing…
“Desperate Kate and Gerry McCann” sent a strand of Madeleine’s hair to South African police colonel Danie Krugel. The Locator has located the spot where Madeleine’s body is buried
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “WOMAN WHO COST MADDIE FUND £51K”
“Anguished Gerry McCann sensationally split from the expert masterminding the worldwide hunt for his missing daughter Madeleine after she put in a whopping £20,000 overtime and expenses bill”
PR Justine McGuinness charged Gerry and wife Kate £51,000 for 89 days’ work. “Her basic fee was £350 a day, making a total of £31,000. And the rest was made up in overtime payments and expenses - including bar and restaurant bills”
A source says Gerry saw the bill and “hit the roof”. He was “livid”
So she went. And was replaced by Clarence Mitchell
“Gerry was the only one who wanted Clarence,” readers learn. “He was determined to get him after building a strong relationship with him in Portugal. But nobody else wanted him because he had given Kate and Gerry - what some of the family thought of as - questionable advice”
Can the McCanns’ PRs get a PR before their names and sullied?
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “New police chief turns screw on McCanns”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “MPs demand record of child-tracking devices over paedophile fears”
Oh?
“New laws to regulate the use of high-tech child-tracking devices are being called for by MPs amid fears they could be used by paedophiles and stalkers. The technology is aimed at parents wanting to keep tabs on their children after a series of high-profile child murders and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann”
Maybe all adults should be chipped instead? Or children paedo-proofed - why let it ruin your holiday?
THE TIMES: “Detective who suspected Kate and Gerry McCann may lead hunt”
Luis Neves, 41, is seen as a forerunner to replace Goncarlo Amaral as lead detective. He was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team.
“But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment”
Or will it be Carlos do Carmo? He has no previous connection with the case, and was Amaral’s predecessor as director of the police in Portimao. The Times says he earned the respect of colleagues after bringing the killer of a police officer to justice
Who will it be: Carmo or Neves? Press your keypads now!
Or C: The British Supercop?
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: “Police have open minds, insists Kate McCann”
“Kate and Gerry McCann are ‘furious’ at Portuguese police claims that British detectives believe their missing daughter Madeleine is dead”
Says Kate McCann to friends: “The police have told us they have an open mind. Of course we accept it’s possible Madeleine may no longer be alive but we don’t know and nor do the police, so we have to do everything we can to find her”
Clarence Mitchell refuses to comment on “the latest unfounded, unsubstantiated rumours”
A source says: “”Quite how any child would die falling off a sofa is beyond me”
She fell off the sofa? Really…
THE OBSERVER: “Forensic DNA tests ‘reveal traces of Madeleine’s body on resort beach’”
“Retired” South African police superintendent Daniel Krugel is on the beach
Are you?

Manon
Thick or not - there is no reason why the money in the company account could not be used for ransom - have you read the company articles? And assuming the kidnapper was thick - why should he not assume that the money was available - and a lot more from celebrity friends?
Why do you think the money is there to support the search - there is nothing in the company articles that says so - it says for the support of the McCann family. Where do you get the information that it was to pay for accommodation in Portugal - that intensity of detail has not been reported in the accounts to my knowledge. And £300,000 for a family villa in Portugal? They could buy one for that money!
Whether you think the child was taken for money or sex is irrelevant. Come to that it is irrelevant whether the McCann’s do or not. The point is that if they believe she was abducted and do not know why, they shouldn’t have taken the chance that it was for money.
What are you basing your statement on - ‘ the slack sexual offender laws in Portugal’. Would you care to debate the difference between civil and common law?
******************************************************************
Ok - the easiest way to deal with this - is for you to think the McCanns are now “celebrities” who are stealing money from kind people to spend on Carribean cruises, and I’ll just go on the information printed in the broad-sheets.
As to the kidnapped-for-money question - I repeat - if she had been taken for a ransome - the kidnappers, who would have planned it carefully beforehand, would have demanded the money immediately. You try & find a child ransome case where that is not so.
Portugal has no sex offenders register & is therefore a haven for European sex offenders with criminal records. UNESCO has tried to persuade the Portuguese authorities to acknowledge & deal with the problem, but they are proving truculent.

446 Judge - Please don’t push this. Otherwise Hubs will awake and remove himself/his self from the sofa and push Grammar books in my face. lol

Judge Dread - from the BBC webpage: Can’t believe we are really down the grammar route, but still….
‘whether you say you and I or you and me in co-ordinate phrases depends on whether they function as subjects or objects in the sentence, eg:
You and I should go and speak to Trevor about this matter.
Trevor has indicated that he wants to interview you and me. ‘
Way to know which one is right is to remove the other person eg.
‘(You and) I should go and speak to Trevor about this matter’ (correct) - because you would ‘ I should go and speak to Trevor about this matter’ and not ‘Me should go and speak to Trevor about this matter’ (incorrect).
Likewise,
Trevor has indicated that he wants to interview (you and) me. ‘ (correct) - because you would say ‘Trevor has indicated that he wants to interview me’ (correct) and not ‘Trevor has indicated that he wants to interview I’ (incorrect).
At this rate I had better get another bottle in the fridge fast!!!!!!!!

455 - The ransom theory occurred to me also, but let’s be careful - if it were true, our writing about it could jeopardise the whole thing. Unlikely as it may seem, a child’s life may still be at stake.

441 Amarality…. I don’t want to say this but if M was a ‘problem’ child then maybe their lives are much easier with without her.
From the POV of selfish parents, you mean? Especially if the poor child wasn’t biologically Gerry’s, I suppose you could argue… Still, they neglected all 3 equally by leaving them alone nearly every night. Sick of this “house of love” bullshit. Insulting to people who actually spend time with their offspring.

Tony - the clip I was looking for was of GM walking out on Spanish TV. Hard to believe, in this age, that it doesn’t exist! I have no problem seeing the numbers of the posts! Anyone else having/not having this problem? I know others have complained, but haven’t spotted any saying they can see the numbers OK. I’m one of the latter, anyroad.

Bit of a stereotype statement. Is he a good cardiologist? She’s prone to attracting stiffs on a gargantuan scale - Is she a carrier for bubonic plague? Steer clear of Leicestershire hospitals and GP surgeries is my advice…
On second thoughts, now that they are living off the slush fund on gardening leave we are safe! Hurrah for the NHS, I say…

I think it would be appalling to write letters or make phone calls to the McCanns with our accusations and speculations. That would be crossing the line of acceptable behavior. This forum is not intended for the McCanns use, although, undoubtedly, it is being monitored by their PR staff.
By the McCanns making themselves and their campaign a public spectacle, by their own leaks regarding the case, and particularly because of official reports that they are suspects in the disappearance/possible death of their daughter, after raising large sums of publicly donated money to help find their missing daughter, their current circumstances are most certainly legitimately open to speculation.
They cannot have it both ways. If they wanted privacy, the McCanns have traveled down the wrong path for many months.
I have taken care in my posts to confirm that we do not know enough to know if the parents are guilty–certainty from any perspective is impossible from information we have now.
It is discouraging to me when people on this forum are reluctant to have people express their views and must ‘monitor and admonish’ whenever speculation involves the McCanns being responsible for their daughter’s death.
Nearly every single individual on this forum recognizes that there is a possibility that the parents are truly innocent, except for the initial neglect and possibly for being extremely unlikeable people in this situation (for some of us). Why do we need to hear in nearly every single rebuttal for a McCann sympathizer that this is a fact? Can we not just accept that fact and use our words for new points in the discussion?

What happens if someone with the surname McCann wants to call their daughter Madeleine?
October 7th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
420 Manon - the way they treated their children, those toddlers were practically strangers, so not going to pieces when you’ve, perhaps *accidentally* killed your kid and are trying to cover it up to save your higly-paid career, is probably acievable for the McCanns. Let’s face it, their behaviour, since Day 1, has been *odd* - like people overdoing the “let’s stay in conrol of our emotions” routine.
October 7th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Well it has been a slow day from the Conic’s point of view (or is that Comic’s - pointy-head an’all). But fun all the same and not too personal, I felt.
“Grammer” has reered “it’s” uglee hed, but hey it’s still fun.
Bird Bremmo and Fortune at 7 p.m. and I need to inspect the drainage in the lower field - offski for an early start and travels tomorrow so I’ll bid you all adieu…

May 18th - just two weeks after M missing and a priority is to register trademarks?! Sorry. The logic at that stage? Yes - *while they are searching*! The money is there to support the search. For example - to help pay for accomodation while they were in Portugal. They’re not using it to go on a cruise or splash out on a porsche.

Unfortunately you didn’t think hard enough. If the child was taken for money, they have set up a situation where no kidnapper would be inclined to settle - the available money for ransom is publicly growing daily. That is why I said ‘think’ about it.
Unless, of course, you have some hard information that the McCann’s know that the child was both abducted and for a purpose other than money.
Reply:
I’ve never thought the child was taken for money. If she had, the ransome demand would have been immediate as the child was only a means to an end, and they’d want to get rid of her asap. The longer they kept her the higher chance of them being caught. It would be an extremely thick kidnapper who thinks that the money in the fund is available for the ransome. I ‘m sure you’re far to sensible to think that yourself…
I think a paedophile is much more likely, given the slack sexual offender laws in Portugal.

Tony - hoax abduction and accidental death are not the same for the purposes of the vote.
The question is what do you think happened to Madeline. The consequences of what happened don’t form part of the answer.
A hoax abduction would mean Madeleine was still alive.
Accidental death means that Madeleine was killed by the McCanns.
Quite simple really.
