Madeleine McCann: Danie Krugel Is The Locator, Gerry McCanns The Roof And Paedo Alert
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
NEWS OF THE WORLD front page: “Maddie was alive on beach”
“A renowned international manhunt expert, dubbed The Locator, sensationally revealed he has uncovered a telltale DNA trail left by snatched toddler Maddie McCann”
THE LOCATOR – in the papers and all over Praia da Luz from Sunday (see press for details). Anyone else see a made-for-TV series or a fly-on-the-wall documentary?
Ex-cop Danie Krugel has tracked the “forensic route” he believed her kidnapper took from her Madeleine’s Portuguese holiday apartment. It ends on the beach
Says Krugel: I spent four nights in July carrying out my searches. I’ve been able to trace where Madeleine was in the resort and have drawn a map which has been given to the police.
“I can’t reveal details as I don’t want to alert anyone who might try to disturb the scene. But I believe I’ve traced where she was taken that night and now it’s down to police to use their search experts to do the rest. The area to which my investigation led me is a difficult one to search”
Disturb the scene? The beach at a popular tourist destination made famous by the disappearance of a little girl? Yes, best not disturb that. And tell the wind and the tide to stop, too
A source “close” to the McCanns says: “The work of Mr Krugel should not be underestimated and gives great hope to Gerry and Kate. Many people have contacted the couple to try to help but while their hearts may be in the right place they just don’t have the expertise to be of assistance. But Mr Krugel has a proven record of finding people and his methods are extremely credible”
Like this credible helper. And this one. And this one. And this one…
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MADELEINE SENSATION – BOYFINDER CALLED IN”
• McCanns hire leading DNA expert
• He pinpoints area on local beach
• New cops urged to start digging
And fishing…
“Desperate Kate and Gerry McCann” sent a strand of Madeleine’s hair to South African police colonel Danie Krugel. The Locator has located the spot where Madeleine’s body is buried
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “WOMAN WHO COST MADDIE FUND £51K”
“Anguished Gerry McCann sensationally split from the expert masterminding the worldwide hunt for his missing daughter Madeleine after she put in a whopping £20,000 overtime and expenses bill”
PR Justine McGuinness charged Gerry and wife Kate £51,000 for 89 days’ work. “Her basic fee was £350 a day, making a total of £31,000. And the rest was made up in overtime payments and expenses - including bar and restaurant bills”
A source says Gerry saw the bill and “hit the roof”. He was “livid”
So she went. And was replaced by Clarence Mitchell
“Gerry was the only one who wanted Clarence,” readers learn. “He was determined to get him after building a strong relationship with him in Portugal. But nobody else wanted him because he had given Kate and Gerry - what some of the family thought of as - questionable advice”
Can the McCanns’ PRs get a PR before their names and sullied?
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “New police chief turns screw on McCanns”
MAIL ON SUNDAY: “MPs demand record of child-tracking devices over paedophile fears”
Oh?
“New laws to regulate the use of high-tech child-tracking devices are being called for by MPs amid fears they could be used by paedophiles and stalkers. The technology is aimed at parents wanting to keep tabs on their children after a series of high-profile child murders and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann”
Maybe all adults should be chipped instead? Or children paedo-proofed - why let it ruin your holiday?
THE TIMES: “Detective who suspected Kate and Gerry McCann may lead hunt”
Luis Neves, 41, is seen as a forerunner to replace Goncarlo Amaral as lead detective. He was seen by the McCanns as a “breath of fresh air” when he joined the inquiry team.
“But he later became convinced she had died in an accident in the McCanns’ apartment”
Or will it be Carlos do Carmo? He has no previous connection with the case, and was Amaral’s predecessor as director of the police in Portimao. The Times says he earned the respect of colleagues after bringing the killer of a police officer to justice
Who will it be: Carmo or Neves? Press your keypads now!
Or C: The British Supercop?
SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: “Police have open minds, insists Kate McCann”
“Kate and Gerry McCann are ‘furious’ at Portuguese police claims that British detectives believe their missing daughter Madeleine is dead”
Says Kate McCann to friends: “The police have told us they have an open mind. Of course we accept it’s possible Madeleine may no longer be alive but we don’t know and nor do the police, so we have to do everything we can to find her”
Clarence Mitchell refuses to comment on “the latest unfounded, unsubstantiated rumours”
A source says: “”Quite how any child would die falling off a sofa is beyond me”
She fell off the sofa? Really…
THE OBSERVER: “Forensic DNA tests ‘reveal traces of Madeleine’s body on resort beach’”
“Retired” South African police superintendent Daniel Krugel is on the beach
Are you?

How come Krissie is the only pro-McCann to have voted so far?
Just wondering.

Judge Dread said : “Tony why complicate things. A death can only come under one of two heading, accidental or murder”.
REPLY:
I don’t agree, Judge Dread. I guess ‘unexplained death’ is a kind of ‘Don’t Know’/'Unsure’ category. As you know, the authorities regularly use this; the police use the term ’suspicious death’ and the Coroner’s Inquest system uses the term ‘Open Verdict’ - very similar. I guess I am in that zone, but as certain as I can be that Madeleine died in the apartment. To clarify further, I do not think this was ‘just an accident’, nor do I think it was deliberate, premeditated murder.
Though it might turn out to be manslaughter.
I hope that clarifies rather than complicates. I think your poll is useful

Before I go to bed.
When you think about it. So far we have been presented with information that indicates:
Abduction - McCanns - shutters lifted
Reason for death- sedation, accident, steps - theory/forensics,
Forensics - car, cupboard, stairs, keys, clothes - maybe a tapas9 person/apartment
And that’s about it!

471, CARMEN
“The UK has no register of paedophiles who haven’t yet offended and is therefore a haven for sex offenders without criminal records. If the countries that had a register were able to keep it current and keep their offenders in the place they were supposed to be, neither Portugal nor anywhere else would be ‘a haven for European sex offfenders”.
No disrespect Carmen but I don’t think paedophiles are all arriving to Portugal from different countries.Who were all the Portuguese high officials and celebreties that were using the Orphanage for child rape, were they not living in Portugal? Give me a break. The UK at least has a register of some kind, Portugal has none. The UK has a child rescue alert system in place as does the US, Canada and France. I think after the Madeleine McCann case Portugal will be now implementing such rescue alert system because they obviously feel there is a need for it.
This is not an argument about which country is safer regarding paedophiles as you conviently seem to omit the recent orphanage scandal in Portugal. All countries need to implement a sex offender register and a rescue alert system so that at least we have a similar policing stratedgy for such crimes. It does not mean, however, that it is alwasy going to be successful but at least we’ll have something to work with.

Reply to cynic (sorry can’t see the no. of your post, but replying to my 585) :
Your suggestion is close to my thinking.
I think a sudden complete loss of control by one parent with Madeleine is more probable than other scenarios for her sudden death. I base that on what I think are credible reports of Madeleine’s blood being found in or near the apartment, which IMO the parents have lent much more credibility to by responding to them and giving unlikely explanations for its possible presence there.
If there is no blood of Madeleine’s confirmed at the scene, then I would go for accidental but negligent overdose by a sedative, possibly injection of sedative, by the parents, which resulted in death. The parents would have been frantic to avoid an autopsy.
The most credible theory that I have seen for the apparent involvement of other members of the Tapas 9 in either directly covering up, or withholding information from, the Portuguese police, would be that some of them were involved in the (almost certainly illegal) use of sedative drugs on their children
I don’t think the Find Madeleine Fund was set up to make money; rather, it was set up to perpetuate the abduction myth - but at the back of Gerry’s and Kate’s minds would have been the thougt that they could use the fund for (a) some expenses of theirs and (b) for misceellaneous ‘defence’ purposes.
Which has been the case

(Last time I voted was in Moriarty’s poll about 3 weeks ago, when I was on the fence, believing a paedophile abduction was still a possibility. Perhaps there should be an undecided/on the fence category).

It might be the easiest (and most facetious) way for you to ‘deal’ with this, but unfortunately it is not true. What I do think is that the McCann’s are people who are famous for having ‘mislaid’ their child, and who are now supported by a fund which was donated to by people who intended the money to be used to help search for Madeleine.
Reply:
Well that’s quite silly enough(and anti-factual) for me Carribean cruises or no.

You don’t know that a demand wasn’t made immediately. You don’t know if any demand was made, immediate or otherwise. You don’t know if the ‘kidnapper’ then refused to return Madeleine on the grounds that more money was available than he ahd ever suspected. My point is that it was unwise to publicise the money and assume that the ‘abduction’ was not for money.
Reply:
Let’s just apply some common sense here. Ok the Portuguese police are bungling, but do you really believe they would have made Murat an “arguido”, followed by accusing Mrs McCann of killing Madeleine if *they had already had a ransom demand* from some kidnappers?
Congratulations to no-one for noticing I spelt ransom incorrectly earlier!
(My bf’s surname is Ransome & I write it automatically).

Well - everywhere is a haven for sex offenders with no records if it comes to that - but Portugal is specifically a haven for those *with*. Sex offenders are still allowed to leave the country ya know, but if they go to a country with a record, they’ll be recorded there, if they go to a country without, they won’t.
How did they find Sarah Payne’s killer? They trawled through all the sex offenders in the area.

How would you rate:-
Accident whilst arguing with mum over bedtime, medication etc.
They take her into the apartment to tend to her.
Nothing they can do, they lose her.
so what now, they cannot bring her back so what do they do.
Quick thinking tells them to dispose of the body and make a fortune by staging an abduction and setting up a fund.
Fame and fortune for all.

Portuguese Police Union Sues British Media Over Madeleine McCann
see new thread:

In which case, just how will they be reporting it? Will this be where divide and rule kicks in - i.e. papers not being sued break ranks. Ooooohhhh what fun…
October 7th, 2007 at 9:16 pm
Tony why complicate things. A death can only come under one of two heading, accidental or murder.
If a death occurred it is obviously unexplained as we don’t have any facts. It is equally obvious that if a death occurred the McCanns claim of an abduction was false.
The point is to say whether you think she died accidently or was murdered.
