Cocaine residue would be very easy to pick up by the police. Because we have not had any leaks about recreational drugs usage (as far as I know), I do not believe that these have paid any part in the events.
But hell, it would definately give you a good time to run up the hill as described in one of Gerrys bloggs.

if maddie died of an illicit drug overdose, it would have been fairly easy to say she must have found it in the apartment from a previous tenant

Haigh later found a 40 gallon barrel to put McSwan’s body in and then fill with sulphuric acid. He described in his confession how when the body was finally submerged in liquid acid the fumes overwhelmed him and he had to go outside. Later he covered the drum and went home to sleep leaving his former employer and friend to dissolve into a liquid sludge. It was during the night that he supposedly suffered from more surreal and blood-filled nightmares.
The next day the remains of McSwan were little more than cold liquid and lumps which he disposed of down a drain. Knowing that he had killed someone and removed all traces of them gave Haigh a feeling of euphoria.

IF it turns out that the children were all in one room together, then no matter what they would ALL face very serious legal charges. Perverting the course of justice would be a starter.
I wonder when/if the rest of the Tapas9 will be questioned?
Still feel this story cannot be right because the ramification to the McCanns credibility would be monumental. Has Clarence started spinning on this new story yet? Do not have access to mainstream media at the moment.

The way I read it is there was a cot by the wall where the bedroom door is located. Then there was Madeleine’s bed (not cot), then there was another cot thus sandwiching Madeleine’s bed inbetween.
Remember that the bedroom would have been almost pitch black. The shutters were down so there’d be little light in there. If Madeleine woke and climbed up on the edge of the cot, who’s to say one of the twins didn’t push her off and she fell and smashed her head on the floor in the extreme darkness? The twins were over 2 so well able to stand and do that. Madeleine was old and big enough to climb onto the edge of a cot.

I think that the resort manager would have confirmed to the police that the Paynes had a monitor. If they did have one, they could have put into any of the rooms, if their children were indeed in with the McCanns. This would have probably been booked on their arrival to the resort.

Suppose it is cocaine, and it is conceivable that they all sniffed it (you do sniff it?). And there is an accident, for whatever reason including madeleine over dosing on cocaine because she picked some up. Would all parents fear the criminal penalties? Does anyone know what they are? i think this kind of explanation comes closest to an evil, binding the group together, that I think the story needs. Anyone have any knowledge about “recreational” drugs, young children - dose to poison, legal penalties for being caught in a group using it in Portugal, and penalties in the medical profession?

Im with bulldump on this. Sex Abuse is as likely as drugs and a damn good reason for getting rid of the Body/evidence. Can blame a paedo then if it shows up too.

I don’t know if we’re on the same wavelength or not but I don’t think any kind of accident can be called that if it’s premeditated. It might be engineered to look like an accident or perhaps an unloving parent could be more clumsy/less inclined towards safety but I think m.e. meant a true accident.
I think we’re concentrating on detail anyway. Accidents happen to anyone - regardless of love or intent.

A husband found guilty of killing his wife even though her body has never been found has been jailed for life.
Kafil Ahmed, 32, was found guilty after the jury heard blood stains at the home he shared with his 21-year-old wife suggested a “savage attack” took place.
He was told on Tuesday he must serve at last 20 years for murdering Laily Begum at their home in Simmonds Place, Darlaston, West Midlands, in 2006.
Ahmed had mistakenly believed his wife was having an affair, the court heard.
