Madeleine McCann: DNA Jigsaw, Torture And The Twilight Zone

DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE DNA PUTS PARENTS IN FRAME. British experts insist their tests are valid”
Page 7: “DNA tests ‘fill in more pictures of jigsaw’” – A source close to the investigation provides the headline quote. But what has been found is unsaid, and how it involves Kate and Gerry McCann
“New police chief is accused of torture” – Chief inspector Tavares Almeida is to face charges of “beating up a robbery suspect in custody”. The Express says this is a “torture scandal”. The alleged victim – who was accused of being part of a gang that sexually abused children and coerced them into violent muggings - was acquitted
Mr Almeida was dubbed “Kate’s Tormenter”, possibly by the Express today
DAILY MAIL page 8: “New DNA tests ‘put the McCanns back under suspicion’”
The McCanns, both “doctors” are said to be “extremely distressed by the claims”
DAILY MIRROR page 7: “COPS GAVE UP SEARCH THREE MONTHS AGO”
“Investigation in tatters as second detective accused of violence”
THE SUN front page: “McCANNS’ AGONY – MADDIE: NEW DNA LINK TO KATE”
British forensic scientists “are said to believe tests on fresh clues support earlier findings that led to the McCanns being declared suspects”

Clarence Michelle says: “We had reports that DNA had proved ‘inconclusive’ and even it had put the McCanns in the clear.”
Reports from whom is not reported
“Now there are reports that the DNA is making them look suspect. There are wholly innocent explanations for any material police may or may not have found. This just goes to show what a twilight zone we are operating in”
The Twilight Zone – wasn’t that the name of the TV show with the sting in the tail?
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE: NW DNA DAMNS PARENTS. Brit police find shock evidence”
But they have not been arrested. The McCanns are just suspects. How is this damning?
Pages 8 and 9: “MADDIE: SHOCK NEW DNA CLUE TO PARENTS – Boffins say cops on the right trail”
“Torture rap cop” – Tavares Almeida is 48
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 9: “Portuguese police ‘right to focus on McCanns’”
A British source says “Everything that has emerged indicates that the investigation is focusing where it should”
A British detective says the case is being “done back to front” – the parents should have been looked at first. The mantra is: “Clear the ground from under your feet”

I admit to have believed in the McCanns innocence all along. Unfortunately, I no longer believe that. As bungled as the PJs investigation has been, all reasonable scenarios point to Maddies unfortunate demise at the hands of someone close to her.
My thoughts are: O’Brien finds Maddie dead in the apt when his turn comes to check on the children. She has died either by over sedation, or of an earlier “injury” (shaken baby syndrome? - Kate gets mad at a toddler who won’t settle down for bed quickly enough?). Maddie falls asleep - and dies. Gerry is made aware, and he and O’Brien make quick plans to dispose of Maddie - hiding her body near the beach until someone can paddle out far enough in a dingy, weigh the body down and dump it. They have their careers at stake, and of course the other children to think of.
Kate does not know, and truly is distraught on finding Maddie missing.
Later, the PJ - with all signs (according to them) pointing to Maddie’s death in the apt - focus on Kate as the culprit. By now they think she suspects her husbands involvement? Perhaps leaning on the mother will force the real accomplice to confess (O’Brien and Gerry). The PJ, not being terribly experienced in these types of interrogations, fail to secure enough evidence (dna or otherwise) to jail Kate, even on child neglect charges. The McCanns bolt to Britain.
To me, Gerry seems to figurative and literally wear the pants in his family in the most manipulative and controlling way. The manner in which he has controlled this campaign has been all his way, with no input from Kate. I would hazard to guess that Kate has never questioned her husbands authority in any manner. She probably has not been “allowed” to speak. The mental torment this woman is under is staggering - the loss of her daughter coupled with the growing realization that her husband is probably responsible. Add to that the knowledge that she may have inflicted the injury that lead to Maddy’s death in the first place - by sedatives or otherwise. No wonder she has lost all that weight.

i think the T9 know that maddie’s body will never be found..They seem so confident with challenging the pj..who knows…maybe they are innocent..but i really have my doubts…I think if they truly had ZERO to hide, Kate would have answered all 20 questions pj asked her.

those poor kids should have spent the night dancing on the dance floor at butlins/or similar
Edit…

Not certain about the ‘night’ – Ours generally are asleep – or utterly hyper because they NEED to be asleep by 7 ish…. Yes, including when abroad. Have always had a regular bedtime and it just naturally seems to stick even when on holiday. You have to allow for time differences, initial excitement and travel tiredness etc, but normally settle back into their routine within a day or two. And if they don’t, we just go with the flow.

I can’t tell whether they are or not. If they are, may be quite innocent. Children like to play with Mummies make up.. I’m assuming Daddy doesn’t wear make up.

It’s those electromagnetic impulses that stick to our gray brain cells and suck us back into this merry muck of what is happening now!
I really appreciated the Times story thank you so much.

Confusinger and confusinger…. Somebody must be lying/mistaken about timelines and peoples whereabouts! Not suggesting this applies to the Nanny. The hell I know who’s lying, mistaken or confused (aside from me) in all of this!

Back again and I see the postings have not improved. Three words spring to mind; sick, sleazy and evil. If this is your world people, you are welcome to it. Don’ bother replying on my behalf…I won’t return .

No one knows anything, not even the T9, not the hotel staff, not the eye-witnesses no one saw anything.
Watched an interesting show of what eye witnesses remember - and one remembers only what one focuses on and nothing else. These eye witnesses could not even get a robbery suspect right that was staged right in front of them - it was a joke.
How the PJ can put together a computer display of the last night when people don’t know when they arrived or left or anything else is beyond me.

Madeleine McCann detectives ask for British tourists’ DNADavid Brown
Holidaymakers who stayed at the resort where Madeleine McCann disappeared are being asked to provide DNA samples and fingerprints after detectives found evidence of a possible kidnapper, The Times can reveal.
A letter from the head of the British investigation says that Portuguese detectives have been unable to identify a number of samples recovered at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz.
Police across Britain are now interviewing former guests in the biggest operation since the search for Madeleine was abandoned three weeks after her disappearance in May.
The move came as Paulo Rebelo, one of Portugal’s most senior detectives, was put in charge of the case and as officers were reported to have undertaken a new search of the McCanns’ two-bedroom apartment and the beach near by.
Madeleine McCann: the key questions
Why are the “Tapas 9″ key to solving the Madeleine mystery?
The Times has learnt that detectives recovered unidentified DNA and fingerprints during a series of earlier searches. They have also been unable to trace a number of mobile telephone calls made on the evening that Madeleine was reported missing, six days before her fourth birthday.
The operation — which comes a month after Kate and Gerry McCann were named as suspects over the disappearance of their daughter — suggests that detectives cannot rule out the possibility that a stranger might have stolen the child from her bed.
Leicestershire Constabulary, which is co-ordinating the investigation in Britain, was officially asked by the Portuguese authorities last month to help. In a letter obtained by The Times, Detective Superintendent Stuart Prior tells the tourists: “I have now been asked by the Portuguese investigation team to arrange for DNA samples and fingerprints to be taken from holidaymakers living in the UK who were staying at the Ocean Club Resort.”
He wrote that the DNA and fingerprints “will help the Portuguese police to eliminate samples they have taken and not yet been able to identify”. The tourists are also being asked about the use of their mobile phones and for details of their movements and clothing the evening that Madeleine disappeared. The DNA samples will be analysed by the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham, which has carried out tests on material recovered from Ocean Club flats and several vehicles, including the McCanns’ hire car.
Mr Prior’s letter says that the operation was routine practice and that the DNA samples would not be added to any national database in Britain.
One of the tourists already interviewed by police said that British officers had criticised the decision to wait so long to mount such an operation. “They said that they would aim to do this kind of work within 48 hours of a disappearance and could not comprehend why it has taken five months. We struggled to remember the kind of detail that they wanted about our movements on specific days and what we were wearing.”
The questioning of the British tourists was requested last month by Luis Bilro Verão, the prosecutor overseeing the case, after a judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence for him to order the McCanns to return to the Algarve for further questioning.
Clarence Mitchell, the McCanns’ spokesman, said he hoped that Mr Rebelo’s first priority as head of the investigation would be to eliminate the couple from the inquiry and refocus efforts on finding Madeleine.
The new man in charge
— Paulo Rebelo, an assistant national director of the PolÍcia Judiciária (PJ), has been appointed as the head of the Madeleine McCann investigation
— Officially his new role is the chief of the PJ criminal investigation department based in Portiamo, which covers Praia da Luz
— Rebelo made his career at the Central Directory for the Investigation of Drug Trafficking before being appointed one of four associate directors last year
— He was head of the criminal investigation department in Lisbon which uncovered the notorious “Casa Pia” paedophile ring in 2002
— Other high profile cases include the “Mea-Culpa” investigation into the death of 13 people in an arson attack. He headed the “Freeport case” in which a PJ officer was convicted of leaking details of a corruption investigation on the eve of the last parliamentary elections
— Rebelo is said to be highly regarded. Colleagues say he is nice and a good communicator
— He is close to the PJ’s national director, AlÍpio Ribeiro, who demoted the the previous head of the inquiry, Gonçalo Amaral, last week
Mr Rebelo will have to find a new deputy as Tavares Almeida has applied for unpaid leave and says he wants to leave

929 m.e.
I’m really not even sure if that was the case.
I simply heard (read or heard on TV) that PJ didn’t allow it because it would have broken secrecy laws. Nobody was supposed to talk about it, even when McCanns were just witnessses, were they? Might just have been some journalist saying that. Anyway, I don’t think they were allowed to put it on Crimewatch.
I might even be wrong and it HAS been on since I read that? Don’t think so though. Even the Sky special programme didn’t have any specific times.

NEW POLL SHOCK!!!!
Some people have believed all along that the PJ may not be just swarthy Keystone Cops, but rather good poker players. What do you think? Paste this message into your comments box and add your name to your choice (and increase number by one please)
1. PJ are bumbling fools who could not shoot a pinned down civilian in a tube carriage (0, )
2. PJ have played a subtle long game resisting ludicrous British media pressure and will eventually achieve true justice for Madelaine (1, Petrocelli);

SteveT- Thanks, I do manage the spam protection too without help. How did he make such a mistake though, does he put his brain into gear before his mouth runs away with a two sentence answer. How did the Telegraph reporter not correct him on an error like omitting 1 child out of the equation of getting the Tapas children to sleep?

why don;t you get a nice warm cocoa and have an early night luv….I’m sure you’ll feel better in the morning.

uncle eddy i think it was the drawing etched by a cop after tappas9 tanners description of the fellow seen by no one else carrying a child in a blanket of sorts allegedly
October 9th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Cough, cough, choke, choke……….we know nothing. The press lies, the police lie, and the T9 were all zonked on booze and their memories mean nothing….zip! They didn’t check on the children but maybe twice all evening - that is not frequent checks for crying out loud!
October 9th, 2007 at 11:08 pm
It’s too complicated making all the pieces fit, sorry, too mind bending impossible. The PJ are grasping at straws - they have nothing but rumors upon rumors anymore I don’t believe any of it. Not the PJ’s, not the McCanns, no one. All I know is that Madeleine is missing - no where to be found! The rest is making me sick!
