But they have not been arrested. The McCanns are just suspects. How is this damning?

Thanks for the Times article. Very interesting.
As you know, I’ve always thought the investigation would be pursued to the end. I nevr believed in a cover-up of the truth by British OR Portuguese police/politicians, Gordon Brown, the Pope or anyone else . I believe the truth will come out.
The toxicology reports will show whether or not there was sedation.
Without being xenophobic or denying that the British police make mistakes, I do honestly think this investigation was bungled. As the Times article mentions, all this should have been done months ago. They should have done proper searches and interviews then.
Do you remember the father of the family who had the apartment before the McCanns saying he was surprised their finger prints hadn’t been taken just to eliminate them from the enquiry? That was right near the beginning. I can’t believe it’s taken so long. At last. As the tourists are now saying, it will be hard for them now to remember everything they did at the time.
I gather the DNA evidence turned out to be inconclusive as well? Also in the Times. (At least inconclusive about death.) That leaves us the crucial sedation tests.
(NOT that the Times can be trusted either. It’s only a newspaper!)
It was also a bit daft to have two men heading the investigation, one an arguido under suspicion of covering up torture of the mother of a missing child and the other charged with beating up a suspect later found not guilty. Just daft, especially the first one.
So this WAS a bungled investigation and the British public is not stupid enough to think differently.
I LOVE the Latin countries and their people. This isn’t about prejudice, it’s about the simple fact that this particular investigation wasn’t conducted professionally. If it had been, we’d know by know whether the McCanns were guilty or whether their story and their desperate campaign to find Madeleine was genuine.
For any police force to suggest that they would allow prime suspects (if they DID suspect them then) to remove a body in a hire car under their very noses, weeks after the event and rebury it somewhere else……..well, doesn’t that say it all?!
I don’t know what awful things are yet to come out but these enquiries should have been done within a couple of days of the child going missing.

Not that I pay much attention to such details, you understand, given the delicate nature of international relationships, but isn’t it more a case of who hasn’t had such slurs leveled against them?
6 of the PJ to date, so I am lead to understand by media reports. And strangely, each and every one of these allegations seems to be tied up in some way with child abuse in one way or another. Why not thieves, murderers, traffic violaters, bank robbers. No non of these more humdrum crimes - all of them related to child abuse. There are some strange coincidences happening.

I think you’re probably fairly near to the truth, but wouldn’t underestimate Kate’s level of involvement. She may not be as blatantly arrogant as her husband, but she strikes me as manipulative and self-obsessed. Also, she hasn’t lost that much weight and her ‘gaunt’ appearance could well be attributable to some (much needed) PR advice to tone down the elaborate slap, rather than the strain of it all.

Buy a cheap basic prepaid phone with cash, register with false details or maybe not at all and no one will know who the phone belongs to. They can almost certainly trace the number but knowing who that number belongs to is another thing.
Of course an anonymous phone is a rather interesting thing in and of itself, in a case like this.

Uncle Eddy, you should go read our earlier speculation about who Kate was really having an affair with. Hint: Kate looks like a femme version of Martina Navritilova. Eerie, isn’t it? Then have a look at Jane Tanner. It’s clear what was going on there, once you think about it.

Brandonflours, what, are you suggesting Gerry and Kate have access to some top secret medicines that will keep these VIPs alive indefinitely — anti-cancer medicines maybe? That seems likely to me– that would definitely explain why they seem to be so BLINDLY on the McCanns side flying in the face of really solid evidence suggesting they murdered her, chopped her up, and put her in the freezer for three weeks before feeding her to the pigs at a nearby farm.
Either that, or these VIPs are also being paid out of the Find Madeleine Fund (along with google, the Tapas 9, all the waiters at the Tapas Bar, several guests at the Ocean Club, most of the town of Leicestire, and Maria on the Anorak Forum).

I said several days ago they should try and trace every single phone call made that night.

Different strokes – ours not so keen on the afternoon nap thing. Though as you say, whatever way their sleeping arrangements worked out they are never left on their own. Either one or both of us would be with them at all times.

The Times has learnt that detectives recovered unidentified DNA and fingerprints during a series of earlier searches. They have also been unable to trace a number of mobile telephone calls made on the evening that Madeleine was reported missing, six days before her fourth birthday.
Here’s the cell phone calls information - surely they can trace the number? Surely!

959. Some very good points. But it seems too complicated. The stranger abduction is much simpler and could have been undertaken by a worker at the hotel or a guest or something. The entire affair is just becoming too obtuse to be undertaken by the T9. Every path leads to a dead end or more convoluted explanations….
