A friend of the McCanns says: “This shows the scale of the problem in Portugal and appears to show that the Portuguese police seem to be looking in the right direction. It may provide vital leads”
But the raids were not directly connected with the Madeleine case. Operation Predator was six months in the planning

I have seen a couple articles that mention there being a child proof gate at the top of the stairs. If that had been shut by the parents it would have prevented that scenario. I am surprised the gate gets very little mention.

Yeah but you say Gerry is lying, so we can’t know the extent of what he would be lying about, everything could be fake or genuine, same thing with looking at the videos of the couple (as that tends to rely heavily on personal opinion, and one could easily get experts to argue on either side, due to personal opinion and experience). That’s why, I try to keep an open mind when looking at every theory, etc. I know everything is possible, whether it is likely or not, I based upon my opinion and personal experiences (and try to make that clear, hopefully I do most of the time?).

I was discussing this recently with someone out here in relation to a couple of real cases. The bottom line for me is that illness is not an excuse for crime. The only time it should be is if your judgement was impaired to the extent you had no control. I don’t think post natal depression qualifies for most people because woman have had babies for thousands of years. I personally don’t think PND should get you off the hook for killing anyone.

yes, you could use dimenhydrinate (travel tabs), but they have no medical use in the uk so it’s unavailable, and any antihistamine off the shelf would make them sick if it was in a linctus in the dose needed to keep them sleeping solidly for hours.

One thought occured to me today was how in the US it is considered OK by the courts to send mothers suffering from post natal depression/psychosis to the gas chamber when they have murdered their children.
In the UK we sometimes show a bit more understanding when it comes to mental illness.
I don’t know how things are in Portugal - do they accept that mothers can behave in ways which are completely out of character when suffering from post natal depression and psychosis?
I’m not suggesting Kate McCann has suffered from PND, by the way, but I was wondering how the Portuguese system would treat a mother who was.

Just to clarify on my response to Peter. I just pointed out the theory bit because a common complaint on both sides, when refuting a theory is that “we don’t know what happened”, yet when the refuting party offers up their own theory, they are generally basing the theory on things that haven’t been confirmed as well. So it really does pay to have an open mind on this forum, although, I know others don’t prefer that…

A snippet of news that appears to have been overlooked is that yesterday, 10th October, between the hours of 1.15pm and 4.45pm, the McCanns were visited by Detective Superintendent Bod Small and two female detective sergeants: one believed to be a family liaison officer.
The police were seen to enter the McCanns house with a number of files but were not believed to be in possesion of those files when they left.
What could they have been doing at the home of the prime suspects in a criminal investigation?
