A friend of the McCanns says: “This shows the scale of the problem in Portugal and appears to show that the Portuguese police seem to be looking in the right direction. It may provide vital leads”
But the raids were not directly connected with the Madeleine case. Operation Predator was six months in the planning

And lets face it - if she was taken from the apartment, put in a car and driven off into the darkness - the liklihood of any evidence is quite small. For me its a lot more plausible than all these daft conspiracy theories.

Vive la difference – or however you spel it!
The most damning ‘evidence’ against the abduction theory is that the main suspects in the case are the very people who claim that there was an abduction. They didn’t get to be suspects by accident? And to me it just seems naïve to continue believing in something for which there is no evidence whatsoever when there is a body of anecdotal ‘gossip/rumour’ in entirely the opposite direction. Not that means you can take this as any ‘proof’ of guilt, but it should certainly raise suspicions?
I also don’t follow why if Madeleine was taken from the apartment and put in a car you could conclude that the ‘likelihood of any evidence is quite small’? The fact that someone had been in the apartment may well leave traces of their presence. I can see how if Madeleine had wandered outside of her own accord and a chance abduction in the street took place then in that instance there would be no trace of the abductor in the apartment.

People are basing their theories on assumptions and personal experiences. The same can be true for Gerry and Kate in a way, they are using their opinions and experiences of trust as a couple to “know” the other one wasn’t involved. The cops are using their experiences and assumptions to say their was an abductor. So, does anyone really know anything? Should people around the world just stop talking about everything? I doubt most people are experts in everything…but we use the best of our abilities and our personal histories to figure out who to trust, what to trust, and how to trust our own inner judgment.

Thanks for a decent non abusive response. I was wrestling with how a death might have occurred more than falling and then that’s when I thought of a scenario where they put her to sleep to put her out of agony. I guess there’s a multitude of ways she could have injured herself though.
I fear the worst for Madeleine so I guess the best we can hope for is the perpetrator(s) are brought to justice sooner rather than later. If it’s the parents then so be it - charge them to the full extent of the law.

My personal opinion is that no, I don’t see it as holding a lot of water. That said, it’s a far more feasible scenario than some evil wicked paedo hiding round the corner or in the stairwell, waiting to pounce. None of us know, (and I guess we may NEVER know), what happened at the fateful point in time, but IF, and I do reiterate IF, the parents were in any way culpable, then I believe it would have been to a more complicit and blameworthy way. To cover up an accident such as Maddie falling doesn’t hold up too well to scrutiny, IMO. Had that been the case, then they could easily have reported it and escaped with an even greater element of Martyrdom than they currently enjoy. For them to have covered up whatever tragedy befell Maddie, (assuming that to be the case), then they would have had to have done so in order to categorically obscure some rather more unpalatable set of circumstances.
