Madeleine McCann: Ben Needham Is Missing, Operation Predator And Maddie’s Cops
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “McCanns warn: We’ll sue over claims we drugged our children”
Page 7: “Madeleine parents: We have never sedated our children” – The “slurs” are “outrageous” and “hurtful”.
The theory that they sedated all of their children is a “wild theory”. It appears in Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas, a source for “some of the more outlandish reporting”. The Express reproduces the outlandish reporting for its readers to digest and marvel at
“Grim hunt for images as child-porn ring is smashed” – Operation Predator is a clamp down on child porn in Portugal. A friend of the McCanns says: “This shows the scale of the problem in Portugal and appears to show that the Portuguese police seem to be looking in the right direction. It may provide vital leads”
But the raids were not directly connected with the Madeleine case. Operation Predator was six months in the planning
THE SUN front page: “Maddie: cop raid on pervs”
Page 7: “McCANNS’ DELIGHT AT PAEDO SWOOP” – Kate and Gerry McCann are “encouraged” that 300 Portuguese police “smashed” a 80-strong paedophile ring
“’FIND OUR KIDS TV’” – Kate and Gerry have backed a TV channel that features the 150,000 UK children that go missing each year. Pictures of missing children will be shown at GP surgeries, shopping malls and hospitals
Page 37: “MISSING BEN AGONY – We were too working class to get help like Maddie’s family” – The mother of Ben Needham, who disappeared 16 years ago on the Greek island of Kos – sees haves and have nots
“I was 19,” says Kerry Grist. “Just an ordinary girl from a council estate and people thought, ‘She will just go away in a few months, have another child and forget about it…I don’t think people thought Ben was important enough.” Or the media didn’t…
Kate McCann is a doctor. Gerry McCann is a heart specialist. Both Madeleine and Ben are blonde
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Huge porn swoop offers hope of a Maddie clue”
“Could Ben still be alive?” – Ben Needham disappeared from near his grandparents’ farm house
Says Mrs Grist, Ben’s mum: “Madeleine’s parents are middle class people with important jobs and seemed to have had a publicity machine behind them straight away”
DAILY MIRROR page 15: “WHY STAY IF SHE HAD SOMETHING TO HIDE?”
A pal of Kate McCann says: “She could not tear herself away [from Portugal]. What mother could leave the place where her daughter vanished? …If she had something to hide why would she hang around in Praia da Luz waiting for the police to come knocking on the door?”
We don’t know. Why?
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE POLICE ARREST 80 PAEDOS”
Madeleine McCann does not have her own police force – not yet. But the police working on one case are Portuguese, like the police in her case. It’s an “EXCLUSIVE”
Page 7: “MADDIE COPS RAID PAEDOS” – The Star sees Gerry McCann leaving his home in a car. “STRAIN” reads the caption
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 17: “Madeleine police turn spotlight back on paedophiles”
“Missing children TV hopes to jog patients’ memories” – Ben Needham is missing. Xiao Xiao is missing. Lee Thomas Wedge is missing. Leanna Petrenko is missing. Abigaile Sommerville is missing. Andrew Paul Gosden is missing
THE INDEPENDENT page 24: “Mother in plea to missing son” – Ben Needham is missing
THE TIMES page 11: “Madeleine police return to kidnap theory”
German and Dutch police are believed to have been asked to trace and interview guests staying at the Ocean Club when Madeleine went missing
THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

Columbo, I disagree. If you aren’t watching a child by the pool and the child falls in and dies, I think the legal system would be more likely to assign the parent with a murder charge.

The American use of plurals makes me laugh. Everything is a “bunch”. You even hear “a bunch of water” meaning a lot of water. Talk about illiteracy.
Excuse me, you’ve been watching a bit too much Columbo lately.
The only “bunch” you’ll hear me refer to is the “bunch of lunatics” presiding over this forum lately - Due East of the pond.
With the exception of one on the Western side of the Pond - the ExPat named Stevo claiming to be living in the U.S. today.
Bunches? Please - what company are you keeping over here while you’re visiting us Stevo?! Certainly not the American Aristocracy. LOL - “fer sure!”

The McCanns won’t even acknowledge it is bad parenting to leave toddlers alone. Why would they own up to an accident? Lying and hiding a body has got them in the clear - their story is that Madeleine was abducted.
The bath comment is what Huntley did to the Soham girls.

Well, but even in America there’s Proper English with its Proper Grammar and there’s street talk, basically just the way people speak. The way people speak often is not Proper, but that doesn’t make it Wrong. So even if you drop the Queen’s English (hee hee!), you still have people trying to say that certain things are “illiterate” when really they are just spoken English put in print. I have low tolerance for people who think certain ways of speech/grammar are more proper/accurate than others. I’m a linguistic relativist.

Mr Stevo I aint no fancy dan Philadelphia lawyer, but negligence means it aint an accident, capiche, your under arrest for as you brits so quaintly put it dithering.
October 11th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
In what part of America Did the queens English originate?
October 11th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
Ahh, not you and the bath then. And no, not the hiding under the bath theory either (although I didn’t think about that either!).

It fits my theory too. I’m interested to see or hear more about that service area under the apartment although I’d be surprised that it only just came to light.

Stevo:
“If you accept it as a genuine 100% accident I can agree with you to a point. I’m looking at this as an accident that was mainly caused through negligence.”
I still think if it was caused through negligence, they would be smart enough to confess (as lying and hiding a body will get them into more trouble than negligence), but I suppose they could have made one bad decision after another (the negligence).
Sorry, did your theory have the accident happening in the bath? I thought someone’s theory did, I haven’t heard a lot of theories about that…

Whether you buy the theory or not, it’s not insane because a girl is missing and the evidence points to the parents being involved. There’s blood evidence on the steps and in the room and people say they saw her in bed at 7pm. The parents are quite arrogant and have a no-fault attitude to things in general so I’ve made the theory fit the evidence. It certainly isn’t insane.
How about coming up with your own theory about what happened?

There’s proper English and then there’s mainstream English. They are not the same and one is not better than the other
Actually, it’s Queen’s English (old school, their’s in otherwords) and American English (contemporary, modern, new school, our’s in otherwords).
Hopefully the former will be phased out soon - along with the Monarchy!!

If you accept it as a genuine 100% accident I can agree with you to a point. I’m looking at this as an accident that was mainly caused through negligence. Considering the hell to pay from the family and the unknown complicated questions from authorities, I can easily see how two intelligent doctors quite capable of treating their daughter themselves could have got into a pickle that turned into a nightmare. I see a possible outcome of that being euthanasia. Whether the others at the Tapas bar knew about it is irrelevant - the theory works with or without them.

Oooh, Stevo, watch it. You don’t want to start a linguistics argument with me.
Turns of phrase, ways of phrasing things, are culture-based, and have nothing to do with literacy or lack thereof. There’s proper English and then there’s mainstream English. They are not the same and one is not better than the other.

Some can be just one! All it takes is one of “Some” to have any of it at all!

Why would a doctor seek emergency care? They were in a foreign country and it would look bad because they weren’t looking after Madeleine properly. They are doctors and would think they could deal with it themselves.
Stevo -
LOL - Are u serious dude???!!!!
Doctors seek emergency care all the time….I can give hundreds of examples of why that would be.
Here’s just the most basic one: if they don’t have the proper equipment to handle an ill patient - especially if it’s their daughter, and she’s dying and needs oxygen an IV, emergency medical care - and they are on Vacation!!
Doctors don’t travel with a fibrillator or an IV or an Oxygen tank the same services as an emergency unit ward or ambulance would.
I can’t wait to show this post to my buddy who’s a GP - that’s insane Stevo!

Stevo, I’m not trying to spare with you, I swear. I just don’t agree with your opinions on the doctor/emergency care issue (I think if they wanted to cover it up, it would be because they were at fault, which is possible, as anything is, at this point, to the general public anyway). But a doctor would seek emergency care (other care) when it was simply past their expertise. I don’t think either of them would have had much experience with ER type medicine (not since training) and they didn’t specialize in such things. Some things are simply out of bounds for excellent care, depending on what a doctor specializes in, and a doctor would want their family to receive the best care possible (they could have stabilized the girl at a foreign medical center, then have her shipped off to a better hospital). It happens a lot.
October 11th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Thelma, I think so, too. I don’t think this is going to be an unsolved case. There’s too much pressure/intensity that is not dying down… everyone involved has motive to solve the case. If the McCanns are lying, they can’t stand this pressure indefinitely. If they are not lying, someone else will crack after the PJ starts to really get on their trail. I like this new Portugese investigator. It seems like he means business.

Who says they didn’t stop trying to revive her? I don’t understand euthanasia either so I can’t figure out at what point a doctor chooses to play God and make the decision to take away a life.
October 11th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Excuse me maam,Krissie I think the bollock was once attached to the bullock, thats my theory heh what can I tell ya its late mrs Columbo is out with a gun looking for Shantilly shaker, gotta go.
October 11th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
For Yanks who Dont understand the word bollocks , Some seem quite expert at talking it!
October 11th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Stevo, I just think most doctors would NOT think they could look after her themselves– they know an emergency when they see an emergency. A brain injury is a serious matter, and two doctors would KNOW it was a serious matter they couldn’t deal with themselves. And a child having a bad accident would not necessarily mean they weren’t being “looked after properly” … children have accidents even under the most watchful eye.

Thanks Krissie,
I wonder will we still be having the same debates and arguments in five or ten years time? Personally I feel that we are very close to a significant development .

I had a theory quite some time ago, that something awful had happened in the apartment and Madeleine had died. However, I do not believe that her body was removed from the apartment on that evening.
I did ask if anyone had seen the inside of one of those apartments, and knew what the exact setup was. No-one could answer unfortunately. I was thinking of places that her body could have been hidden, e.g. you sometimes get a steel plate that is simply bolted to the tiles underneath the bath, if you remove the plate, there is quite a large area underneath the bath which would have been big enough to hide a small child. Another thought was a hollow ceiling for the geyser where she could have been hidden.
Then today I read a newspaper report where police are particularly interested in a “service area ‘ which was underneath the apartment. I believe that Madeleine could have been hidden there, and that is why there was no chance that she could have been found anywhere that night, as she had actually never been moved from the apartment at all!
Just my theory!
October 11th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Why oh why, don’t the McCanns come back here like I want them too? Silly peons messing up my investigation.
If new enquiries are to be put to Gerry and Kate McCann, Paulo Rebelo will have to work in close cooperation with the British police as it is unlikely that UK authorities will extradite the couple for questioning or trial, if the case ends up going to court.
