Madeleine McCann: When Waiters Attack, Kate McCann Childcare Inc. And Feudal Powers
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – ‘McCANNS OR A FRIEND MUST BE TO BLAME’. Tapas bar waiter’s astonishing attack”
Jose Batista served the McCanns and party on that night Madeleine disappeared. “I did not think she had been taken by an abductor,” says he. “I told them [the police] it had to be one of the family or a friend. It had to be someone close”
Mr Batista is a “crucial eyewitness”
Page 4: “Nanny would have cost just £10” – Batista is standing with his “partner” Maria Fernandes, who also works at the Ocean Club complex. She does not speak. She smiles for the camera. Why is she there? They are holding hands. He says the Tapas 9 did check on their children regularly: “I know that because I often took food to the table and found one of them not there. I would take it back to the table to heat it up. But it was always the men who went to check never the women.” Apart from the time Kate McCann went to check. So not always the men. Jose thought that strange. Why?
Says he: “They left heir children alone. If I had been in that position I certainly wouldn’t have done that.” Maria smiles
“Kate may be a child carer after ruling out GP work” – But would she make living at it?
THE SUN front page: “MADDIE EXCLUSIVE: WHAT WAITERS SAW. Kate left kids alone 3 hours a night”
It’s Jose Baptista, not to be confused with the Express’s Jose Batista, even if this waiter does look very similar and is seen holding hands with his “wife”, also called Maria
Pages 4 and 5: “The men normally checked on kids..Kate only went that one night”
Kate and Gerry are “doctors”. Says Jose: “They left their children alone for up to three hours every night.” Apart from when they all went out as family, with the “cranky” children
Maria speaks: “I definitely remember Madeleine. She was like a little angel, very quiet and good as gold. Just a lovely little blonde girl.” Blonde, you say?
“CAREER PLANS STILL ON HOLD”
DAILY STAR page 7: “holiday waiter describes horror night girl vanished – MADDIE: ‘ONLY PARENTS OR PALS COULD HAVE DONE IT’” – Jose Batista says…
“Kate wants job in child care”
DAILY MAIL front page: “I want to work in child care says Maddie’s mother”
Page 7: “Kate McCann ‘wants a job in child welfare’” – So it is “claimed”. So she ahs “told friends”
“FRIENDS ‘SHARED EIGHT BOTTLES OF WINE A NIGHT’” – Says Jose Baptista. Yes, eight bottles between nine Britons. On holiday. In the sun. Indeed, is that all?
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine’s mother ‘to as GP for a child welfare job’”
“One possibility is that she will set up a charity to raise awareness of the extent of child abductions across Europe, and help parents and children who suffer such an ordeal”
Fernando Jose Pinto Montiero, Portugal’s attorney general, says the country’s Ministerio Publico, likened to the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service, is a “feudal power”

I was just amazed that Rosemary found it very offensive to say Madeleine was short.
I’m going over old ground here but to those that didn’t know here’s the reasoning:
1. A story appeared some months ago from a Dutch private investigation team that Madeleine was autistic. No proof was offered.
2. Madeleine has an eye defect which is associated with many different genetic disorders.
3. There is NO information about Madeleine on the Findmadeleine.com website apart from her age.
4. The height is on the PJ website as 90cm.
5. 90cm puts Madeleine below the shortest 5% of 4 year olds.
6. One possible genetic disorder that accounts for short height is Turner’s Syndrome.
7. Some children with Turner’s Syndrome have distinct behavioural symptoms which can be confused with autism.
8. Kate said in a story that Madeleine would cry for 18 hours. This is another symptom of Turner’s Syndrome.
This is why height became a point of discussion.

Just a moot point Stevo, she was not quite 4, and don’t children grow in spurts at different times?

Stevo Says:
the author Patricia Cornwell says that the cops should be looking at “Forensic Linguistics. Apparently this is a branch of forensics devoted to analysing statements. She referred to several of Kate’s comments throughout the past 6 months in interviews.

It would be interesting, what Patricia Cornwell (I’ve read all her Scarpatetta-novels, although on of them is dedicated “with love” to Barbara Bush …) herself found in Kate’s comments. Never heard of “Forensic Linguistics” before. Sounds extremely interesting!

Have you got the third one somewhere too?
I want to show all three to someone ans ask which looks the most “real” (in order).

Portia Says:
“Madeleine and her siblings were sedated and put to bed. Madeleine awakens, feeling sickly from the sedation, starts vomiting blood, goes out to the terrace to call for help, climbs up on the balcony to wave her parents down and topples over to her death.
Completely plausible.”
It would be a nice idea to come up with a “completely plausibe” scenario that includes all allegations made in this case so far.

what does the height mean to you? anything in particular?
my 12-year-old boy is as big/small as my 9-year-old girl. so?

To be below the 5th percentile is significantly smaller than average. The parents aren’t short so it is unusual.
I don’t know what big or small boned means? I know a lot of people who are obese say “I’m big boned”. Since when did anyone ever see a “fat” skeleton?

Vera - the comment below just sums it up about Lord Steven. The man is not to be trusted. How dare he criticise the PJ?

What can I say?
It’s not my experience.
Last year, another experience … I won’t go into the details of what I do but a British group (from a specific industry association) was visiting the country I live in. The manager of a site (in the same industry) openend it for them, fully staffing it for them. The group launched into the free booze, drank every drop (and there was a lot there), didn’t bother visiting the rest of the site and got back onto the bus to back to the hotel and “go out”. The manager of the site was flabergasted…

You’re welcome. I saw the team return on BBC News this morning. Keep the trophy warm for us for 4 years…!

372, Stevo,
The comments about Madeleine’s height (90cm) have been repeated quite often.
Her friend (in the buggy) is a few months older than M was, and is smaller.
Their mothers are small-boned and so are their daughters. Nothing abnormal in that,
completely average for Europeans, in fact.

Like any drinking…it depends on how much food you’ve eaten first.
That’s the oddity with the Tapas crew…we never heard that they ate anything.

Let’s see if I can now post. I’ve been trying for hours.

By “average” I take it you mean the 50th percentile?
43 inches is 109 cm. Madeleine was 90cm on May 3.

Amusing link to ‘coppers cop’……..we’ve got the tapas 9 /10 /11 and their wine imbibing, the pj who were demonized for their long lunch breaks and alcohol consumption(not to mention, horror of horrors cigarette ash in the forensics!!) and now learn this about the venerable Lord.
Looks like another ‘piss-artist” imho.
Yes, the UK is totally under the influence of a booze fuelled culture and we’re almost being ‘encouraged’ by all these so called ‘professionals’ and people in authority to believe its somehow ok. Talk about mixed messages……
but God Forbid if you happen to smoke!

You can now buy the entire 692 episodes of Prisoner Cell Block H series on DVD. A bargain at £700

Who was it in here asked me to superimpose someone into a photo with hair strands?
I know Stig pointed out that hair was a problem but to me it isn’t.
Was it brandonflours or SSS? Maybe someone else?

If it is true that Kate McCann seeks a child welfare job, woulr one intrepretation be that she is also seeking to atone for what she sees as her oversights in child care?
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:46 pm
Carmen,
I think you will find the QC you refer to is the late George Carman. Two As in there, no Es……
Also, I didn’t refer to your nationality at all.

Stevo 356,
Geez Stevo, I used to be considered a pretty good drinker in my youth, but a bottle and a half (9 bottles for 14 people) would probably render me unconscious. Certainly I would not be in any shape to take care of children for a while. Of course, I’m Kate’s size.

thanks steveO, the final was great for us obviously, but the best was when the boys arrived back in joburg this morning, what a reception they got. absolute heroes to the whole country,
now on that note
if Maddie is found alive and well, will she ever live a normal life, she will be hounded for years,
maddie at school, first boyfreind, wedding, first kids, employment
poor child, dead or alive

a growth chart used here in the states says a 4yr old would be about 43 inches tall.

I agree with you on that. Other countries do have manifold problems. Personally I find the lawlessness in the UK and booze related problems a real irritation. I think if the UK fixed the petty crime and alcohol trouble, it would be a fantastic place.
It needs a politician with the mind of Rudi Guiliani who can clean it up with a zero-tolerance policy in the same way he fixed New York.

It’s refreshing to see that at least some posters come up with some satire.

Firstly
There is a def booze culture in this country, a very special booze culture as in “A night out after which you can still remember how you got home is a wasted night”. Never seen that anywhere else.
Secondly
I can’t find anything xenophobic in carmen’s post.
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Portia - as plausible a theory as any other.
But… if she vomits blood surely the PJ would have easily found traces of these fluids the first time they came to the room.
Also, how would you describe what happened then (after Madeleine’s death?). How did the parents have time to dispose of the body and prepare a cover-up?
I do disagree with most that say this was an elaborate cover-up. I don’t actually think it was. One could argue that an elaborate cover up would have re-recreated forced entry into the room (they did not), and would not have left blood marks in the window (as was allegedly the case).
I think that there’s a real possibility that the parents did decide in a matter of seconds to hide the body quickly (for example in the nearby church - where they knew it would not smell as churches are usually cool environments) and then built the abduction case from there. It may even be the case that the Tapas 9 don’t actually know what happened.
Who knows?

Congratulations on the rugby…
I thought it was a poor final. I watch more rugby league than Union…I mean, there were no tries.
