1262 Mathew - I know many doctors (GP’s) and they have great difficulty with personal issues, they crack up. They are used to dealoing with the problems of others but are bad at dealing with their own issues.
These people are clearly riddled with guiolt, but have yet to accept their actions as guilty. They have never stood up and said ‘we were WRONG ‘.
They should be setting an example - but the example they are setting is hardly appropriate for doctors.
They know that their suffering is NOTHING to that which they have exposed an innocent child. Nothing is sufficient punishment for what they have done, they must be punished and they must be seen to be punished, the law must come to the defence of innocent children and be seen to do so. So whats your angle? Why defend this neglect? You like the idea of children being exposed to risk?

1248 coolandcalm Sorry but Stig’s little dance about preferring to believe the early reports when contradicted by the most recent ones is something that I haven’t particularly noticed the ‘anti-McCanns’ doing - rather they seem to take each new piece of information and analyse it, adapting their theories to fit, or not. As for the nannies, unfortunately they have changed their stories which doesn’t make them the most credible of witnesses. The waiter has not, nor has any reason to. However, I’m not aware that I mentioned either - only Stig’s adaptation of the facts to fit what he wishes to believe.
Personally, I lean towards the accidental death theory and the fact that the McCanns had everything to lose when it was discovered they had sedated Madeleine. I find some of the more outrageous theories here to be entertaining and enjoy seeing their plausibility tested. But for me the bottom line is that - as a middle class professional with a small child - I find their actions incomprehensible. I can’t empathise with their plight because it is entirely self induced. Health care professionals simply aren’t that ‘naive’ - at least none of the extremely hard working and dedicated members of that profession that I work with on a regular basis are - perhaps the McCanns simply didn’t feel the need to attend child protection training and have never seen the NSPCC guidelines for appropriate childcare. Of course, that would be utter bollox. And commomsense tells you that the risk of abduction when you leave your kids in a situation like that is way down the list when you make your risk assessment - after trips, falls, burns, scrapes, apartment catching fire etc etc. In fact it would be about as likely that she’d be abducted by aliens…

1203 — “[Mitchell] is there to protect someone else.” My guess is that whoever paid for Clarence Mitchell initially believed the McCanns were innocent. (I think almost all of the McCann supporters outside the Tapas Nine originally assumed the McCanns were innocent.) Now that Gerry McCann is so besotted with the spotlight that he cannot shut up, and the McCanns’ story is full of holes, whoever is paying Mitchell’s bills is in a jam. The backer can’t very well pull Mitchell off the case. To do so would look ungallant, and would make the backer look kind of nutty. Perhaps at this point, Clarence Mitchell reasons that the professional thing to do is to keep plugging, minimizing McCanns’ self-inflicted wounds as best he can. The consolation to having a client as arrogant as Gerry McCann is that, when everything is over, people won’t blame Clarence Mitchell for his insufferable client.

As it is, their guilt or remorse now would appear to be de to public opinion through sites such as this, not because they have any real feelings of guilt or remorse.

Judith, if they are guilty and the body is found that way, etc. I agree, the campaign will be another thing to tackle. I don’t see it being tidy in their defense or in the minds of the public.

The mysterious Scarlett implies, after the anonymous phone call to the new hot-line giving the location of the body, that the ‘insane’ one (presumably Kate) will take the rap and the rest will escape with the DNA evidence swept under the carpet after strings have been pulled. Yes, I can imagine this to be the scenario, but…is no-one nowhere going to say anything about the biggest individual scam (maybe) in modern times - the Find Madeleine Fund - perpetrated on an innocent and trusting and gullible public who sincerely wanted to help find this child?
This wasn’t set up by an ‘insane’ woman or a grief-stricken innocent man. It was set up by two cold calculating profiteers trading (and still trading) on the disappearance and possible death of an innocent child. Is this going to be swept under the carpet as well?

Yes..They made a HUGE mistake by leaving the 3 kids alone..But they are now suffering the consequences..They may not show it..but remember, They are both doctors..They deal with stress on an everyday basis. and can show compose themselves in front of a camera
