American Football At Wembley: Miami Dolphins Player Learns No Translator Needed In London
THIS Sunday the Miami Dolphins will play the New York Giants in Wembley Stadium. And Dolphins’ player Channing Crowder confesses he didn’t know that people spoke English in London.”
Anorak will view this game as it views all American football matches - but popping out to get a video, or sleeping. But this is interesting. They get Beckham. We get Channing Crowder.
“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder says. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.
“I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”
Of course, the irony is that he will need a translator - people in London really all do speak like David Beckham…

If you live in the USA, why do you need to know about a tiny little sad country like England anyway. I’m British myself and I play American Football. To all those who say it’s a lesser version of rugby, try learning the rules and finding out what’s required of a player (except kickers and punters!!)

Oh come on, what ever happened to British phlegm, not over taken by Yankee gum, surely.
One also wonders about teams such as Sospan Fach and the Antipodean All Blacks.
Fly the flag for Commonwealth why don’t you?

One thing we don’t have in short supply in America are Smart-@ss Comedians. As you Brits put it… he’s being “Cheeky” .Here are some facts about Channing, as I understand them. He was a member of the National Honors Society in college. He had a validated 3.5 GPA at University of Florida, and I believe he graduated early. He is known far and wide as being a jokester. Yes, there are Americans who are THAT dumb but there are only two and their last names are Bush & Hilton.

American style football is a great sport because of the strategy involved and the way momentum can change. The game requires great physical skills but as you can tell from this interview, some of these guys should have spent more time in class learning about geography and other societies. They are making a lot of money to play this game while they are young and hopefully they don’t fritter it all away before they get to old to play.
This game is far from rugby, and is played is high schools and universities all over the U.S.

In the US, if David Beckham stood in a police lineup holding a soccer ball, we wouldn’t know who he was.
He’s barely a man, if he was born in the US, he would be selling cosmetics in a mall.
Only in Europe could he be considered a superstar.

American Football is the greatest game ever devised.
It’s a scientific game unlike soccer or Rugby.
Unfortunately, it will never catch on in Europe because Europe does not have enough athletes to field a quality team.

Be nice to the poor boy, all those violent tackles have obviously scrambled his brain.
Football is a pretty simple game… “That man has a different color shirt on….I tackle him!”
A perversion of Rugby really, no soul though.

Well, obviously some of his education missed a mark, I don’t think that is his fault though. Hopefully with this great opportunity (both in travel and career) he can pick up a few things.
In the mean time, he can be snared by Chantelle or someone, they can all learn together. It’ll be fun…
