Madeleine McCann: Jane Tanner’s eFit, A Spanish Angel And Wearing Pink Pyjamas
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – 70% DON’T BELIEVE McCANNS”
The McCanns are on the TV in Spain. The show is followed by a phone vote. The people vote, at least some of them do; how many, we are not told. One, two, three..? Gerry is a “cardiologist”
Pages 4 and 5: “Police: Parents are hampering probe.” Angel Galan, head of the Spanish National Police’s kidnap, extortion and murder squad says: “There is no real information to indicate that Madeleine could be in Spain although Mr and Mrs McCann might think so. I think the question is why couldn’t she be in France or in the UK? Why does it have to be Spain, Portugal or Morocco?”
“Drawing that could catch her abductor” – an artist’s impression of a man carrying a child in the vicinity of the McCanns holiday complex on May 3. The man is of average height, of average build, with dark hair and with his facial features not filled in. Do you know him?
The artist was commissioned by the McCanns in light of a person their friend Jane Tanner said she saw on the night Madeleine disappeared
THE SUN front page: “PICTURE SENSATION. He took Maddie – MAN SEEN BY McCANNS’ PAL ON FATEFUL NIGHT”
A drawing of a man. The caption: “Hunted…a drawing of man with child in his arms as seen by Jane Tanner”
Page 13: “MADDIE IN ARMS OF SNATCHER. Pyjamas ‘prove it is her’” – The man is 5ft 6. He is 5ft 10 in the Express. He is “slim”. The girl is wearing pink and white pyjamas. The man is in a maroon shirt, camel coloured trousers and black or brown shoes
Says Clarence Mitchell: “We hope this will go a long was to proving the independent eyewitness account that she was taken by someone and the police’s focus on Kate and Gerry as potential suspects is wrong”. See drawing of a man seen by McCanns’ friend
And: “We believe it does show Madeleine in his arms. The description of the pyjamas is accurate enough to believe that is the case.” The McCanns’ friend sees the girl wearing pyjamas like those worn by Madeleine, whom she knows
“GERRY BACK AT WORK” – Gerry McCann is a “cardiologist” – lest we ever forget
DAILY MIRROR front page: “This is the man who took our Madeleine. PARENTS RELEASE SKETCH”
Page 11: “’He was slim with untidy black hair, plastered back. He was hurrying with a child in pink pyjajmaas’” (No songs please)
“’KIDNAPPER’ SEEN BY KATE’S PAL”
Paul Routledge: “All I want to do is put my arms around her and say: ‘there, there’ while she sobs out her grief on my shoulder”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Friends’ fears for ‘increasingly fragile’ Kate”
Pages 8 and 9: “Is Kate at breaking point?” – If she cracks up will the papers like her better? “Friends fear for Maddie’s mother after TV ordeal”
“SPANISH EYES” – The McCanns have launched a private “proxy investigation” in Spain. Under Portuguese law it is illegal to use private detectives while an investigation is ongoing
The mystery man who may have taken her” – Mrs Tanner sees the man. She is later “racked with guilt”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE PARENTS ‘HIDING TRUTH’ – 70 per cent of TV viewers thinks McCanns are lying”
Pages 4 and 5: “BODY LANGUAGE SPECIALIST GIVES HIS VERDICT ON KATE – ‘MUM WOULD BE VERY GOOD POKER PLAYER’.” Robert Phipps watches the interview with Kate McCann on Spanish TV. She is frowning, and expert Phipps says this is indicative of “pain” and stress. Who knew? We do not know if he then voted in the subsequent poll
THE TIMES front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – The white man is of “medium build”
Page 9: “’This is the man who took Madeleine away’” – The Times says the new picture bears “no resemblance to Robert Murat”. The picture has been handed to the McCanns’ detectives who are operating across Europe and North Africa
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – This is the man Jane Tanner says she saw at 9:15pm on May 3

This is clearly getting a bit heated, lets all just sit back, relax and chill. Just look at the facts. Kate and Gerry are both medically trained, they both deal with sedatives, and both work in a job that requires emotional detachment, but both devout catholics. I think the Pope and his cardinals choose them, knowing their mindset, to participate in a conspiracy to bring people together as Catholics. To rally round to show the compassion and faith the Catholic church has to offer

I think only this - like I said before when a horrible child abduction story hits the headlines any parent like me hurts but when I heard the circumstances I was less than impressed given the levels of protection I gave to my child over the years and my child would’ve been with me on an adult night out and she would’ve loved it!! ….and probably gone asleep in my arms….
The Mccanns made errors of judgement which annoyed me - given we were all asked for their sympathy at such length…..I suppose grudgingly they still have my sympathy because they are missing their daughter ……… but did it have to be thus if they showed better judgement?
Isn’t that why people suspect them or lack sympathy for them? anyway I’m a recalcitrant on the point of leaving the children and I want to see them answer to that in some other way than suggesting that Holiday Complexes and English and Portuguese law somehow “prove’ them responsible in their parenting
An apology is called for in asking for our support - that has not been forthcoming as I see it

‘MUM WOULD BE VERY GOOD POKER PLAYER’
A
Kate McCann in the interview
26th October 2007 By Cameron Millar Your Shout
A body language expert last night revealed Kate McCann’s composure during her telly interview could be her undoing in the eyes of the public.
Many viewers could remain unconvinced by Kate as she talked about Madeleine, said analyst Robert Phipps.
And he claimed: “Kate would be a very good poker player.”
But he added that from the video footage of the interview it seemed the couple did NOT have anything to do with their
daughter’s disappearance.
He said: “There was nothing that came out as odd or out of place in the
interview – they did just seem like parents who have lost their child and don’t know how to get her back.”
Robert, one of Britain’s best-known body language experts, has appeared on Big Brother’s Little Brother with Dermot O’Leary, 34, and has been the resident expert for more than five years on the Trisha Goddard Show.
He said the public would have warmed more to Kate and Gerry, both 39, if they had shown even more emotion.
He also said the way they conducted it – patiently waiting for the other to finish and not talking over each other – could possibly suggest some media training.
Neither of them is giving much away, even though they have been asked some very deep questions. Robert Phipps
Robert, 43, of http://www.robertphipps.com, said: “The public likes to see a bit more of people’s heart on their sleeve – especially when something so terrible has happened.”
Nervous
“Neither of them is giving much away, even though they have been asked some very deep questions.”
But he said Kate showed the classic body language of someone who is “very nervous and frustrated”.
And he added: “She appears as a little girl lost. Her feet are turned in, and she is talking very quietly. It says: ‘I just don’t know what to do.’”
He said Gerry appeared to demonstrate more anger bubbling beneath the surface.
Robert said: “His answers are much more forceful. But he seems to be in control of what he is saying, and never loses his temper.”
He added: “They come across as very consistent in their body movements – and display the body language of people who are articulate and intelligent.
“Some people might say that’s controlled – but in their jobs as a GP and a heart
surgeon, they must show composure.”
He said if the pair gave the same interview under lie-detector test conditions, it seems likely they would pass.
“When people lie you see skin tone changes – raised blood pressure causes cheeks, and ears, noses and chests to flush.
“But there was none of that in this interview.”
