Madeleine McCann: Jane Tanner’s eFit, A Spanish Angel And Wearing Pink Pyjamas
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – 70% DON’T BELIEVE McCANNS”
The McCanns are on the TV in Spain. The show is followed by a phone vote. The people vote, at least some of them do; how many, we are not told. One, two, three..? Gerry is a “cardiologist”
Pages 4 and 5: “Police: Parents are hampering probe.” Angel Galan, head of the Spanish National Police’s kidnap, extortion and murder squad says: “There is no real information to indicate that Madeleine could be in Spain although Mr and Mrs McCann might think so. I think the question is why couldn’t she be in France or in the UK? Why does it have to be Spain, Portugal or Morocco?”
“Drawing that could catch her abductor” – an artist’s impression of a man carrying a child in the vicinity of the McCanns holiday complex on May 3. The man is of average height, of average build, with dark hair and with his facial features not filled in. Do you know him?
The artist was commissioned by the McCanns in light of a person their friend Jane Tanner said she saw on the night Madeleine disappeared
THE SUN front page: “PICTURE SENSATION. He took Maddie – MAN SEEN BY McCANNS’ PAL ON FATEFUL NIGHT”
A drawing of a man. The caption: “Hunted…a drawing of man with child in his arms as seen by Jane Tanner”
Page 13: “MADDIE IN ARMS OF SNATCHER. Pyjamas ‘prove it is her’” – The man is 5ft 6. He is 5ft 10 in the Express. He is “slim”. The girl is wearing pink and white pyjamas. The man is in a maroon shirt, camel coloured trousers and black or brown shoes
Says Clarence Mitchell: “We hope this will go a long was to proving the independent eyewitness account that she was taken by someone and the police’s focus on Kate and Gerry as potential suspects is wrong”. See drawing of a man seen by McCanns’ friend
And: “We believe it does show Madeleine in his arms. The description of the pyjamas is accurate enough to believe that is the case.” The McCanns’ friend sees the girl wearing pyjamas like those worn by Madeleine, whom she knows
“GERRY BACK AT WORK” – Gerry McCann is a “cardiologist” – lest we ever forget
DAILY MIRROR front page: “This is the man who took our Madeleine. PARENTS RELEASE SKETCH”
Page 11: “’He was slim with untidy black hair, plastered back. He was hurrying with a child in pink pyjajmaas’” (No songs please)
“’KIDNAPPER’ SEEN BY KATE’S PAL”
Paul Routledge: “All I want to do is put my arms around her and say: ‘there, there’ while she sobs out her grief on my shoulder”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Friends’ fears for ‘increasingly fragile’ Kate”
Pages 8 and 9: “Is Kate at breaking point?” – If she cracks up will the papers like her better? “Friends fear for Maddie’s mother after TV ordeal”
“SPANISH EYES” – The McCanns have launched a private “proxy investigation” in Spain. Under Portuguese law it is illegal to use private detectives while an investigation is ongoing
The mystery man who may have taken her” – Mrs Tanner sees the man. She is later “racked with guilt”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE PARENTS ‘HIDING TRUTH’ – 70 per cent of TV viewers thinks McCanns are lying”
Pages 4 and 5: “BODY LANGUAGE SPECIALIST GIVES HIS VERDICT ON KATE – ‘MUM WOULD BE VERY GOOD POKER PLAYER’.” Robert Phipps watches the interview with Kate McCann on Spanish TV. She is frowning, and expert Phipps says this is indicative of “pain” and stress. Who knew? We do not know if he then voted in the subsequent poll
THE TIMES front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – The white man is of “medium build”
Page 9: “’This is the man who took Madeleine away’” – The Times says the new picture bears “no resemblance to Robert Murat”. The picture has been handed to the McCanns’ detectives who are operating across Europe and North Africa
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – This is the man Jane Tanner says she saw at 9:15pm on May 3

Hi everybody
1) Roberto Arte (the interviwer) is neither a TV star nor a senior and experienced journalist, but a simple -but good and responsible- background news presenter. He couldn’ t move an inch from the list of questions (Mitchell had previously forbidden any change)
2) Spaniards don’t “mirror” the Portuguese, as D. Express says; we have our own opinion. If 70% decided they were not telling the truth, it’s because 70% thought that Mccanns were not telling the truth, not because we are mirroring the Portuguese reactions.
3) José Cabrera, very wellknown psiquiatrist in Spain (and attending the debate after the interview) speaks today in the Portuguese Correio da Manha. He says that Kate had “pocker gambler tears” and that, after an extremely detailed technological chek, she didn’t move a sole face muscle. Cabrera thinks thas she has serios psquiatric problems.
4) ANTENA-3 DON’T (NEVER) BROADCAST IN PORTUGAL OR MOROCCO (neither northern or southern). Never. Just in Spain.

I’m not creating conflicting info. I’m reporting in here what I’ve read. The waiter talked about the Tapas lot going there several nights in a row and doing the same routine each night. But I also read that on the night in question he said only one got up. You’re right in that there were also stories about having to re-heat food but I took that as meaning on the other nights when more got up and down.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
I think it is just bizarre that they would release a photo of a man with no face. Is this supposed to be a joke?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
Maybe the man in the sketch is a “waiter” with dirty hair or just a low life scum dirt bag stealing a child to make some money.
Today, I’m leaning towards the stranger abduction theory………

The T9 had access to people who were bi-lingual. They were not innocents abroad in a a hostile country where no-one speaks English. If they wanted to they could give their versions without of mistranslation. It is hardly like they are translating philosophical arguments from one language to another.

Yes. But don’t you think that carrying a child tells you one thing - that it’s a sick child?
A normal sleeping child wouldn’t be carried like that. It makes no sense because the head isn’t supported properly. Maybe a short distance from a house to car you might but parents usually carry their children upright - even when asleep.

There is conflicting info in what you are saying: The most recent report by a waiter says that so many people got up from the table they had to hold up serving the food.
Previously waiter/waitresses have stated that no one got up from the table and they were surprised to hear they had kids…

Hideki (re: Kennedy’s home, this was done with an online translator, but I doubt they’d mess up on the headmaster Kennedy, as the Kennedy in questioned was labeled a ‘tycoon’).
“The line, that will work 24 hours to the day, will be taken care of by deprived detectives, in an attempt to open a new one via in the search of its daughter in Spain, Morocco and Portugal. In order to make the interview, the presenter of the program, Robert Maple, it is had displaced to Manchester, the address of Brian Kennedy, one of the tycoons who finance the search of Madeleine and the legal defense of their parents. ”
“La línea, que funcionará 24 horas al día, será atendida por detectives privados, en un intento de abrir una nueva vía en la búsqueda de su hija en España, Marruecos y Portugal. Para realizar la entrevista, el presentador del programa, Roberto Arce, se ha desplazado a Manchester, al domicilio de Brian Kennedy, uno de los magnates que financian la búsqueda de Madeleine y la defensa legal de sus padres.”

Because you’re being defensive I assume you’re in the USA and are American?
If so, then please tell me why Americans always ask me if I’m from London?
If you are American, do British people always ask you if you’re from New York?

Mr Brown, Prime Minister… and Mr D Miliband, Foreign Secretary, if they haven’t
already done so, would be well advised to to disassociate themselves completely from this Farce as quickly as possible…and allow the Police to investigate this case unhindered and free from Political interference.
Should they have the poor judgement to be associated in any way in this investigation
they are not fit persons to be in Government.
===========================
“they are not fit persons to be in Government”!! Did you ever, really, honestly think they were even BEFORE the McScams came on the scene?

As I posted last night when the picture was first published the position of the child displays that the carrier wants to keep the body away from his face/ torso. This would indicate that the child is possibly dead or likely to vomit - not a good position for a sick person..
I cannot help but wonder if other members of T9 had any input into Tanner’s recollection.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
I wonder if the new Portuguese PJ man is towing the political line and thats why he was reported as ‘angry’ about the way the investigation was run - setting the scene to clear the T9(so its from the pj this stuff about the timing being all out?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:19 pm
I’ve got it!
Tanner didn’t mean pj’s…she meant the PJ!

Who are the Smiths?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Ian 660 Well, Ms Tanner certainly has some explaining to do when the pj turn up!!!
October 26th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Mr McCann said: “This could have been someone who could have been picking up a child from a creche or coming back from dinner. But we are certainly suspicious of the timing and that person needs to be eliminated from the investigation.”
The artist left the man’s face blank because Ms Tanner, of Exeter, said she never saw it in the dark street.
______________________________________________________
But wait a minute…Tanner’s original testimony said she saw this man in the alley and not the street. Even Jeremy Wilkins has said Tanner couldn’t have because he was talking to Gerry in the alley and as we’ve all seen, it’s too narrow for anyone to walk past without being noticed.

“And from Stig’s posting about that article, is Stig suggesting that Madeleine would be abducted from that apartment and half an hour later still be sleeping if she wasn’t sedated?”
No, I posited that there was perhaps only a 15 minute difference between Tanners time for the sighting and Smiths. Given the distance between the locations of the sightings, and allowing for inaccuracy in times, I think it not unreasonable to suppose there might be a link between sightings.

John, the interviews were meant to have translated questions from the police, then translated responses from the McCanns. Then everything was translated again and they had to agree to what they said. Not foolproof, and I think one of the explanations for the ‘unanswered questions’ may be due to the translating? Maybe not for all of them…but I think that would be one way they made their misgivings concerning the interview or accuracy of some statements known.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Stig -
Any chance of a plea bargain - the Doctors McCann wire themselves up to a lie detector test to anwer plenty of probing questions on the abductor/accidential death or worse theories etc, and the mob agree to stop carping about negligent
It is time to cut through this and do a deal
October 26th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Here’s another thing about the new photofit.
How many parents would carry their child like the picture shows?
NONE!
I can’t remember ever carrying any of my kids that way. I carry them close to me when they’re sleeping - with their head resting on my chest. The way it’s drawn is unnatural and would attract attention. A fireman might carry someone out of a building like that but I really doubt a caring parent would carry their child like this.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Here’s an interesting article - comments on Criminal Sketch Artist.
I watched a show on this, and the artist said that people can have a difficult time with the details, so she would give them a ball to hold and try to keep them in the moment and she would help draw out the details - and during the conversation the person would begin to remember more. Just a possible explanation as why the sketch had no facial details.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
I am wondering how inaccurate the PJ notes are. I would think that the police would have asked the witnesses if the information in English was a fair reflection of what the witnesses had stated. The witnesses had the consul and ambassador plus top PR and British officers in Portugal from a very early stage - if they had any misgivings they should have made them known at the time. It is not as though any of the T9 were illiterate or uneducated people or afraid of professional people through lack of contact with such people.

…and also the McCrims have said they fear they will still be suspects when they reach the first anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance …so how do they know she won’t be found before then ?

I assumed it was the wealthy one. But I suppose it could be an older soul’s collection…I’ll have to check and see if I can find anything conclusive. (should the person claiming things in the newspaper, have to confirm it? Rubbish reporting! I’m kidding…)
Also, I’d like a note that I wasn’t ever at MW resort, and I’m not a man. Incase anyone wants to get sketch happy…

OK so you know different ? does anyone here know different ? the theories and to-ing and fro-ing of illogical opinion aren’t anything like the possible truth. IMO they did sedate the child, only with whatever they usually used, and they lied about it ( Gerry’s ear-tugging etc etc ) but it is a lot simpler to think that someone from the complex, probably who worked there, knew the family, knew where they were staying, knew the children were left on their own for some length of time and whisked her away. Realised when the bit about her eye blemish was published that they had inadvertently taken a “hot potato” and dumped her . There has been a lot of talk of water being involved but I think she was either buried in a shallow grave which the water will uncover when it rains hard, or she was dumped in a pond or a well or some such place which will overflow. I don’t think it was the sea.

The waiter who said it was normally the men who got up also said only 1 person got up on the night of May 3. The story I read says that but doesn’t say which person is the “1″.

Interesting point from jailhouse.
If Gerry McCann did not already know that Madeliene would not be found in 50 days, which the McCanns intend to celebrate with the launch of 50 balloons, why did he announce his intention at 43 days into the search? He already knew in advance. Either Gerry McCann is psychic, or he knows what happened to Madeliene.
