Madeleine McCann: Jane Tanner’s eFit, A Spanish Angel And Wearing Pink Pyjamas
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – 70% DON’T BELIEVE McCANNS”
The McCanns are on the TV in Spain. The show is followed by a phone vote. The people vote, at least some of them do; how many, we are not told. One, two, three..? Gerry is a “cardiologist”
Pages 4 and 5: “Police: Parents are hampering probe.” Angel Galan, head of the Spanish National Police’s kidnap, extortion and murder squad says: “There is no real information to indicate that Madeleine could be in Spain although Mr and Mrs McCann might think so. I think the question is why couldn’t she be in France or in the UK? Why does it have to be Spain, Portugal or Morocco?”
“Drawing that could catch her abductor” – an artist’s impression of a man carrying a child in the vicinity of the McCanns holiday complex on May 3. The man is of average height, of average build, with dark hair and with his facial features not filled in. Do you know him?
The artist was commissioned by the McCanns in light of a person their friend Jane Tanner said she saw on the night Madeleine disappeared
THE SUN front page: “PICTURE SENSATION. He took Maddie – MAN SEEN BY McCANNS’ PAL ON FATEFUL NIGHT”
A drawing of a man. The caption: “Hunted…a drawing of man with child in his arms as seen by Jane Tanner”
Page 13: “MADDIE IN ARMS OF SNATCHER. Pyjamas ‘prove it is her’” – The man is 5ft 6. He is 5ft 10 in the Express. He is “slim”. The girl is wearing pink and white pyjamas. The man is in a maroon shirt, camel coloured trousers and black or brown shoes
Says Clarence Mitchell: “We hope this will go a long was to proving the independent eyewitness account that she was taken by someone and the police’s focus on Kate and Gerry as potential suspects is wrong”. See drawing of a man seen by McCanns’ friend
And: “We believe it does show Madeleine in his arms. The description of the pyjamas is accurate enough to believe that is the case.” The McCanns’ friend sees the girl wearing pyjamas like those worn by Madeleine, whom she knows
“GERRY BACK AT WORK” – Gerry McCann is a “cardiologist” – lest we ever forget
DAILY MIRROR front page: “This is the man who took our Madeleine. PARENTS RELEASE SKETCH”
Page 11: “’He was slim with untidy black hair, plastered back. He was hurrying with a child in pink pyjajmaas’” (No songs please)
“’KIDNAPPER’ SEEN BY KATE’S PAL”
Paul Routledge: “All I want to do is put my arms around her and say: ‘there, there’ while she sobs out her grief on my shoulder”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Friends’ fears for ‘increasingly fragile’ Kate”
Pages 8 and 9: “Is Kate at breaking point?” – If she cracks up will the papers like her better? “Friends fear for Maddie’s mother after TV ordeal”
“SPANISH EYES” – The McCanns have launched a private “proxy investigation” in Spain. Under Portuguese law it is illegal to use private detectives while an investigation is ongoing
The mystery man who may have taken her” – Mrs Tanner sees the man. She is later “racked with guilt”
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE PARENTS ‘HIDING TRUTH’ – 70 per cent of TV viewers thinks McCanns are lying”
Pages 4 and 5: “BODY LANGUAGE SPECIALIST GIVES HIS VERDICT ON KATE – ‘MUM WOULD BE VERY GOOD POKER PLAYER’.” Robert Phipps watches the interview with Kate McCann on Spanish TV. She is frowning, and expert Phipps says this is indicative of “pain” and stress. Who knew? We do not know if he then voted in the subsequent poll
THE TIMES front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – The white man is of “medium build”
Page 9: “’This is the man who took Madeleine away’” – The Times says the new picture bears “no resemblance to Robert Murat”. The picture has been handed to the McCanns’ detectives who are operating across Europe and North Africa
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “Madeleine ‘abductor’” – This is the man Jane Tanner says she saw at 9:15pm on May 3

He cycles to work? We lived in Canada for five years and we had one of those doctors who cycled to work. One day he ended up in the windshield of a truck. True story.

It makes no sense that an abductor would walk down the street with a body that is obviously limp and unconscious. Also, sleeping children aren’t completely limp. They curl towards whoever is carrying them. A completely limp child in someone’s arms would attract a great deal of attention, because it looks as if an accident has happened. An abductor wouldn’t carry it in plain site, in the first place.
He’d have far more chance of not being caught, to just leave the body lie.
It just seems so very fake. I don’t think Ms. Tanner is helping the case.

Mike Hitchens on Photofit & Gezza
In Australia we have an advert for toothpaste depicting a man cleaning his teeth. The scene is shot from behind and the voice-over informs the viewer, “We can’t show his face because he’s a dentist” (advertising restrictions apply to certain professions).
We now know that Gerry’s Angels, are searching for an Australian dentist of Mediterranean appearance, who in order to make himself conspicuous at night, wears light coloured trousers to match the bright yellow jacket he will wear later.
At least Gerry wont have to worry about advertising as he is now the worlds most famous consultant cardiologist. What a shame he didn’t achieve celebrity status through his care and concern for others, instead of his total lack of the same virtues for his own children.
Never mind, I am sure all the publicity will be a great asset to his private practice at Spire Leicester Hospital, (formerly BUPA Hospital Leicester) where they aim to provide excellent private hospital care to patients from the East Midlands and beyond.
Being a kind hearted little vegemite, I am quite happy to give Gerry’s private practice free publicity. These are his details as listed on the website of Spire Health Care, (which I was able to access through the kindness of a regular reader).

Professional profile
Dr McCann graduated from Glasgow University and after working in New Zealand for one year he returned to Glasgow to begin cardiology training and completed his research degree (MD) in cardiopulmory exercise testing. After moving to Leicester in 2000, to continue general cardiology training, Dr McCann continued his interest in non-interventional cardiology and was awarded a European Society of Cardiology Fellowship to train in MRI at Amsterdam in 2004.
His clinical interests are the assessment and management of coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy and valvular disease.
Personal profile
Dr McCann is a keen sportsman and has represented Scotland at various levels in both cross country and middle distance running. He is married with three young children and naturally has less time for sporting activities although keeps fit by regularly cycling to work.

My prediction of events shortly
After watching the Spanish interview and the McCann demeanor I predict:
Gerry McCann will crack in the next interrogation and make a deal. It is very obvious that there is trouble in the McCann marriage and Gerry seems angry and distant to Kate. Gerry will spill the beans and ask for immunity by implicating Kate of being the guilty one and he was looped into getting rid of Maddy and denying involvment. He will feel it has gone too far and too many inconsistent statements will be their demise.
The interrogation will be extremely high pressure and there will be no more point in trying to lie out of it.

I know it’s a rabbit warren of alleys and streets. I do think it’s a single complex though. The ownership may vary but that is typical in Europe that a single apartment block can have a whole tranche of corporate ownership and sitting beside it can be some apartments that are privately owned.
My points have been that not only were the T9 there. There were probably dozens of other families/couples etc. Then you add employees of Ocean Club. Add to that the locals who maybe took short cuts through the streets at the side of this complex.
All timeline stories concentrate on the movement of the T9. They don’t even take into account people we don’t know or haven’t even heard of…yet!
I’m sure there would be others randomly walking about and there’s other witness statements that the PJ have.

I’m off to watch old episodes of Sapphire and Steel. Did anyone see it when it was originally on T.V.? It’s so weird seeing Joanna Lumley young.

CoolandCalm: “Tapas Bar is open to the public!!!”
But the courtyard/pool area where they ate isn’t open to the public, is it? Even if it was, the McCanns dining party was there all night and could see the weird people hanging around surely?

No, they broadcast to all our territory. In the TV range, Antena 3 (private) is the third channel, in importance, viewers, etc. First is Radiotelevision Española and later Tele5.
Antena 3 is not a very serious TV. It’s a “tabloid” TV, always interested in stars life, who marries, who divorces, who takes cocaine, etc.

My earlier point was that several members of the T9 had toddlers and because they all left their kids alone, how could Tanner be 100% positive who’s kid it might have been?
A lot of people also forget that the T9 were not exclusive holidaymakers here. There would have been others at the Tapas Bar, others milling around and perhaps random people walking along the roads by the complex. Not to mention the staff at Ocean Club.
The McCanns version of events just didn’t happen.

’spurs being beat i reckon…..
October 26th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
Ian… perhaps they didn’t want a meal there? If they were just noseying around then I guess they would be turfed away. The resort has had more than enough bad publicity lately!!
Tapas Bar is open to the public!!!
this gives an idea of the spread of the resort…….

Oh ok…that makes sense. I didn’t know it was a private station like that. Do they only broadcast in Madrid?

726. Yes, I saw it. A joke drawing right?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Batman, don’t be down - there is a complexity of vested interests at work here, some not knowing yet that they will work together to out the truth, some maybe even within the families. I would put my money on a major development in February 2008. This is the time for the significant players to take their place. It ain’t over until the anti-phat lady sings! (Only joking wot do I know!)
October 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Does anyone know why a photo of Calum MaCrae is on http://www.gerrymccannsblogs.co.uk?
Don’t tell me another celebrity is related or involved with the McCanns.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
If Tanner didn’t see the mans face how could she age him at approx 35-40? Isn’t it’s someones face that gives away their age especially when fully clothed? Or did his clothes stereotypically mean he was about that age?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
727 Canada. Most people here also read the Gazeta and know all about Paulo R. but thanks anyway.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
It could be, could be, that Antena-3 can be received in El Algarve (south) but no in the rest of the country. For sure. We, in Spain, have never seen a portuguese TV

Remember these people were probably “looped” to the gills and not thinking right at the time. What what a “drunk” person’s can remember - a little cloudy I would think!
