It would appear that we are getting somewhere near to what actually happened that night.
By all accounts Gerry made his check on Madeleine shortly after 9.00pm. It now seems likely that the abductor was in the apartment. Gerry (without trying to disturb the tots) has just poked his head into the room. Everything is as expected. Tots asleep. He then exits through the patio doors, down the steps and proceeds down the side road towards the Mwv entrance only to notice Wilkins in the rear alleyway where he strikes up a conversation.
In the folowing 15 - 20 mins or so Tanner has exited her apartment and walks along the alley way past Gerry/Wilkins and onto the side road. The abductor at this time has opened the shutter doors to the bedroom and managed to get Madeleine out. He then proceeds across the road which at this time Tanner (whom I asssume has looked to her left on the exit of the alleyway) notices someone crossing the road, with, what she now believes is the abductor. Which road was this person crossing has not been made clear. It was either the side road or the front. The side road seems to be the obvious one which infact would be going in the direction of Murats home. But that might be pure coincidence. Who knows?
Yeap me ol muckers ………thats my angle!

As far as it has been reported in the press between 4-5 May- source was the manager who stated that McCann had said that the shutters were “jemmied” by the abductor. Also verbatim reports from Jill Renwick (friend) and Trish Cameron (sister of GM) state that the McCanns had told them of a break-in through the window.
I think that was the initial suspicion. Not confirmed. But it now seems that the shutters were opened from the inside.

808. fencesitter,
Telling the truth can incriminate oneself if you are exposing the criminal actions of others and thus become an accessory to the fact.

I came into the case about 2 weeks after May 3 because here in the US they didn’t report it for quite some time. As soon as I saw the McCanns on telly and read reports of Kate crying and sobbing but could see with my own eyes that she wasn’t, I thought the pair of them were hiding something. Huntley sprang to mind. They talk the talk but I’d like to see them walk the walk….right back to PJ Headquarters.

Thought you were. Let me know if they decide to show it over there. I read yesterday that someone in here saw it and said it was nothing like the Madeleine case.

Don’t know why I’m bothering, seeing as you say you won’t believe me. But I never left my child alone, ever, when he was small.
Why would I? I need to drive everywhere; there are no shops close by. If I went in the back to garden, I made sure the front door was locked.
It simply wasn’t hard. My mate was baby-besotted and liked carrying our son around in a snugli when we went out.
One time I was outside with the baby, working on the deck, stripping paint. I turned to get a new rag, and the child took the opportunity to put his hands on the wood with the paint stripper on it. I feel guilty to this day, but I picked him up and rushed inside and ran water over his hands for a long time. He was fine. But that one careless minute could’ve harmed him and it was my fault.
I’m not being holier-than-thou. I just can’t comprehend leaving children alone, little ones who might wake up with nightmares, crying for mummy or daddy. And to leave a door unlocked, a door onto the street, in a place which had been burgled only recently —
Every time I want to believe the McCanns are normal people, I remember that the loss of their child, if it was an abduction, was their own fault.

True John but I also so reports where Gerry McCann was quoted as saying the shutters were jemmied. Also, the Mark Warner reps (I read quotes from 2 different MW employees) that there was absoluttely no sign of forced entry. Whether this is true I don’t know. I’m sure this has been a publicity nightmare for Mark Warner and that they too may have their own special spin.

Stevo,
I’ve felt since midsummer when I began to doubt the McCanns’ story and that of their friends is that the confusion is created with intent to further obfuscate and mislead.

Nope over the course of today she have made dozens and dozens of statements that are not facts and not even have you quoted the hype from McCann team correctly. You have also made many many incorrect assumptions about baby sitting services and kids being forbidden in Tappas none of which are factually true.So I am afraid you know very very little
Therefore do not get shirty, and tell others you know more or that they know zero because you are on very thin ice with your “facts”

John,
You’ve brought up interesting points about the various claims as to how checks were made. I always felt Oldfield’s story that he never entered the apartment but only placed ear to door odd. Also, that the stories about how they checked on their children seem to be one sided. What I mean by this is that everyone claims to have been checking on their own children AND the McCann children. Yet the McCanns checked solely on their own?
I read that they all left their doors unlocked to make checking on the kids easier. However, in the very early days, I read that entrance to and from the villas were made through the windows.

Charged and convicted on virtually no evidence. Cases like this give us no right to be scathing of other country’s judicial systems.

Good point.
The unlocked door is a key piece of evidence from the point of view of known statements and how the initial story was relayed to friends and relatives in the UK. Initially it was a break -in through the window - door locked. When it was pointed out that there was no sign of forced entry the story changed to an unlocked patio.

When was it ever stated that it was a forced entry?

676. Ferdinand, Seriously, the McCanns are awkward, but I wouldn’t go so far that they are walking away scot-free, regarding they might have lost their daughter.

You assume they loved and cherished Madeleine. Something I find more difficult to believe as I watch them not looking for her and not talking to her or speaking lovling about her, nor being capable of writing like normal loving parents on Gerry’s blog or the fund website about her.

I wonder if the other Tapas couples admitted to leaving their doors unlocked?

Something I will say in the McCann’s favour is this; if they are guilty of covering up the disappearance (however it happened), how come they would be so inept in the timeline and with simple issues where they’d easily be found out?
Or am I being naive and it’s just as simple as “there is no perfect crime”?

You were asking about the Tapas 9 and Quiz Night. I heard that Gerry and Kate came last in it, because they refused to answer any of the 40 questions!

“If you have children, you cannot say that you have not left them unattended at some stage and regretted it when you thought what the consequences may have been. If you do, I’m afraid I don’t believe you.”

Don’t believe me then. This wasn’t rocket science or heart surgery. This was as simple as falling off a log. You make a decision a) take kids with you to Tapas Bar or b) stay in.
Why do you apologise for the McCann’s behaviour and make out like other parents are just as bad?

Stig, I didn’t know about the Veronica Guerin case. I have just read up a bit about it and it is certainly creepy. I agree that Jill Dando’s murder was probably also a contract-killing. It has always seemed to me to be the most credible explanation and I was quite surprised when the police charged Barry George with her murder.
