Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…
THE TIMES and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

1260 Are you British? Im a professional working Dad and know many such dads, in and out of work.
All of those I know love to spend time on holiday with their kids. Home isnt quite the same (many play Golf etc!) but holiday with the family is another matter.
If you experience is different, its no wonder we have different views of Gerry’s behaviour.

1264- I’ll ask my stepson when he gets home. I’m pretty sure we have Tesco. It looks and sounds like a familiar brand to me. BUT, it looks like the brand the girl was wearing was a brand sold ONLY at Walmart. (According to the story I read, anyway, quoted from police– American police are downright chatty compared to Portugese, I think).

Kris, it’s called ASDA - Walmart bought them out a few years ago! Now they sell clothes as well as food!

Ian, the body of a young girl, blonde, washed ashore in Texas. It’s sort of like blonde girls in Morocco- any mention of a blonde girl under age 5 and we all freak out, thinking it’s Madeleine. It almost certainly is not, from the description of her. There are many, many blonde girls in Texas. I have two cousins in Texas and they have a couple households filled with young blonde girls. But Ade thinks it could be Madeleine.

I think he should get off his arse/computer for a while a do a bit of running. He will need to be able to shift fairly rapid when the Mcanns lawyers catch up with him!

1252- Ian, now where in the world do you get this idea that “working dads” like to spend time with their kids on holiday?? I know plenty of working dads who actually don’t have the slightest clue what to do with their kids, at home, or on holiday. I assure you Gerry — if he did ignore his children– is not the only well-to-do working father who doesn’t have much to do with his kids. Dare I say it’s even somewhat standard.

Is there a pic of the skirt to check with maddie pics?
In one article it says:
The girl’s shoes were from Wal-Mart and her skirt and top were from Target.
Her shoes were “Tiara” models made by Athletic Works.

Whoever he is, he uses low tactics and doesnt have any points of interest to make.

beached texan girl isn’t madeleine. she had long blonde hair down to the middle of her back (longer than Madeleine’s) & was 33 inches tall (shorter than Madeleine) wearing 2T clothes (also smaller than Madeleine, even if Madeleine was small). Also, one story says her shoes were a brand sold ONLY at Walmart.

I take it you dont agree with my views?

Yes I think we do have tesco shoes in USA.
November 1st, 2007 at 11:36 pm
1225 But thats not the logical view and I dispute your view that the world thinks this is a case of abduction.
There is no evidence of abduction at all.
They arent a proper loving family, despite their insistant claims of adoration for Maddie and the twins.
Normal loving parents - especially working Dads who dont see much of their kids when not on holiday - want to spend more time with their kids when on Holiday. They dont pack them off to nannies and creches.
Also, why use the services in the day but not in the evening? Whats the logic there?
Id not get too excited about the prosecutor wanting more evidence and allowing questioning of Murat but not the Mccanns and T9. I suspect thats dealing with the parts of the investigation which arent considered ‘core’.
The T9 are unlikely to be off the hook for sometime - and, rightly or wrongly, for much of the world, they will never be cleared.

Abduction or not the McCanns and their friends have not helped much. They left the child vulnerable, have come up with a timetable of checks which do not make sense to the police, the description of the abductee has changed, the initial description by McCann of a break-in which patently did not exist, patio door locked then stated as unlocked, cadaver dogs smelling cadaverine (not necessarily conclusive but adds to the suspicion) etc.

Paid leave is for time off from your job, and it comes from your employer.
using the fund money for personal things when THAT is supposed to be for paying the ransom, etc., well, that is completely different. What happens if you run short? Do you just shrug and say, oh, well, too bad, I guess I won’t get my daughter back, but good thing I am caught up with the bank?

matty Says:
November 1st, 2007 at 9:46 pm
“Anna 1078- so you are saying my mother and father were wrong to beat me with a stick when I was a child and I complained about going coal picking to keep the home fire buring. Also when I complained that the toilet seat was cold in the outside toilet at the bottom of the yard!!!!!!!
If you read my subsequent posts and not just jump on the one post I made you would see the context in which I made said post.”
Matty, if you give me the numbers for those posts I will read them. As for the children of the McCanns being left in the apartment, while their parents dined in the complex restaurant, well I wouldn’t do it , but let me assure you 20 years ago when my eldest was a baby and we went on holiday children were put to bed and listening services used. I was the odd one out. In fact my mother in law accused me of bad parenting/spoiling because Irefused to put my daughter outside the front door in a pram and get on with my housework instead of constantly playing with her. She told me Iwas overstimulating her and she should know having been a nurse midwife. On our road as on many others you would often see prams outside a closed door and no mum in sight.
I am sorry Matty but neither you or any other child deserves or deserved to be beaten or slapped, but it went on. It is a terrible way to bring up children, for many reasons. Like leaving children alone it is a system which belongs in the past. We know more today and of course it’s a different world. The old ways are not always the best.
As for the McCanns now , well quite honestly, the twins are always clean and happy and with their parents who appear loving. I don’t feel it was right to leave little Madeleine , Neither do I approve of some of the accusations hurled at the parents now which are unfounded and quite frankly in my opinion the products of sick minds saying more about the accusers than the McCanns. I am sorry if that sounds harsh ,but it is the truth and it has to be said.

The children in the pic may be O’Brien’s, other children of Tapas 9, or also could be children of the Anglican clergy in PdL.
As for 878, she’d still be dead–it’s just a question of when, and why. That would certainly have given them more time to hide the body. One thing I agree on with Peter O–people see what they want to see, and usually do not pay great attention to detail. People who now claim they saw madeleine could well have seen another child. It happens all the time.
Eyewitness testimony is just inherently unreliable.
And email? Do you have it? Is it like driving off-road or something? I don’t think at Anorak we’re allowed….??
