Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…
THE TIMES and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

Stig,
I suppose the door might have been shut. But the newspapers have reported that it was open fairly consistently, and I think that would be important enough for Kate and Gerry to make a point of denying it and I don’t think they have.

12 is the lrecommended minimum age for home alone for any sustained period. I thought the UK was the same. Very short periods may be acceptable for younger children but certainly not as young as three. I think it is not set in stone as the parent should be able to judge the maturity of their child but a lot of abusive parents have unreasonable beliefs about what their children should be capable of (ie expected to mind siblings at much to young an age)

I really wouldn’t mind doing Kate. I think she’s pretty hot

Karalyn - I don’t have kids. I’m still a student.
But don’t worry, I wont be offended by you. I’ll make allowances for the fact you’re repressed.
Why don’t you watch The Hours?

I may have it wrong. I thought you asked about sedatives and their effectiveness? I was mearly pointing out that a certain dose does not neccessarily work for every child.

Harry Hindsight - who I believe actually is a Lawyer - said some time ago that their actions would not be classed as neglect and that he didn’t think they would ever be prosecuted on that basis.
Mark Warner - until this happened - were offering a listening service at most of it’s resorts that was less than the McCanns were doing as the MW service only involved listening at the door.
++++++++++++++
Whether it’s neglect or not, it’s a crap parenting decision to leave three children under the age of 4 on their own on successive evenings.
They are unlikely to be charged with neglect, assuming such a charge could be made to stick, whilst there is an ongoing criminal investigation.
The fact that Mark Warner offers a ‘service’ is irrelevant. It is up to the parent or carer to make an appropriate care choice for their children. The McCann’s made an inappropriate choice on successive nights, allegedly.

I bet far fewer people used the late evening creche service than the daytime.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
One of perhaps three times I have agreed with you Maria. Of course “far fewer” used the creche in the evening than during daytime hours. That would be why Maria?
a) Those people took their children out to dine with them or planned dinner at their villa?
b) Those people hired a sitter who cared for the children at their villa whilst they went out socialising?
c) Some of those other people did both a and b?
How you can go on and on protecting this aspect of McCann behaviour is baffling to me. Anyone with half a brain knows leaving children alone (Yes! Alone INCLUDES what the McCanns did on May 3rd and previous nights because the children were ALONE and their parents or another guardian was not located within a reasonable distance to either patio or front door.) is gross neglect. And if you don’t believe the wisdom or opinions of lay person just call or email any childcare professional and ask them their professional opinion.
Here’s one for you:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/18/world/main2824842.shtml
Sharman Stein, director of communications at New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services, said her agency would definitely conduct an investigation if they received a call that children as young as 4 were left unsupervised.
While Stein said laws often don’t specify the age at which it’s safe to leave children alone, she said she didn’t know any child protection expert who would consider 4 an acceptable age. She said the professional wisdom is generally that children should not be left alone before the “age of reason,” which psychologists put at about 7 or 8 years old.
“Children 4 and under should not be left alone,” she said, noting that Children’s Services has a campaign called “Take Good Care of Your Baby” that urges parents to never, under any circumstances, no matter how briefly, leave their children alone. “It’s not good parenting. It’s just not safe,” she said.

It really annoys me this neglect ‘debate’ did anyone who says its not neglect bring up a child? Why can’t you go out with your children? I did they love it and fall asleep in your arms when you’re out late …put them to bed tired and happy have a drink with your wife/husband on the balcony - watch a bit of strange euro TV and go to sleep - look forward to the hotel breakfast with your family etc etc
It’s a family holiday - this couple behaved like it was their holiday and their Children were an inconvenience -

Don’t worry, I’m sure Kate would dump Gerry if she met you.

Mrs Doyle Says:
I have personal experience of SS. If you approach them, they are your best friend. I am disabled and have a SW on the adult disability team. I had contacted SS due to personal reasons. I went through a very acrimonious divorce in which my ex made allegations of paedophilia, neglect etc. Having a SW prior to these allegations, they threw the allegations out the window (not that I was guilty of any of the allegations anyway) I understand the Mc’s asked SS to investigate. This would have been in their favour rather than have them called in by the ‘public’.
I also understand KM’s mother has stated that KM is never left alone. This would arouse my suspicions.

1336 Mrs Doyle Says:
Neglect is something that happens (or isn’t done) over a period of time. If they left the kids every night of the holiday it would constitute neglect as they were at risk of harm over a sustained period of time.
+++++++++++++++++
In the recent RTE programme (Prime Time??) it was suggested that family sources have confirmed that the children were left on their own on successive nights.
Neglect or not, it’s a crap parenting decision to leave three children under the age of 4 on their own.

From looking up info on Tesco’s site, it appears there are none of their stores in the US. However, we do have a Cherokee brand of clothing that is carried in our Target discount stores.

KM herself has made reference to maddy crying for 16 hours a day. Sounds like maddy did a lot of crying
+++++++++++++
Indeed.. but you would still want to know what time frame this related to? i.e. Was it recent history, or some time ago?
And actually, the real point I’m making about the ‘crying’ – if indeed there was any – is that you still don’t know if it was Madeleine or someone else. Was Madeleine in the apartment? Was Madeleine sedated and was it the twins that woke up on previous evenings? There are all kinds of permutations that might apply, I’m just cautioning against making the automatic assumption that it was Madeleine. Might have been, I have no proof either way.
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:59 am
Annie.
You put the wrong post number. I’m not psychic either.
I was being sarcastic in that post because Sandra was making such a big deal about the supposed difference between being reckless and being neglectful.
I don’t have any proof that Madeleine was kidnapped.
I don’t have any fixed opinion about what happened that night - it could have been a kidnapper or the parents did it, or even she wandered off…
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:59 am
Oh well time for some kip. It’s been fun again - things are certainly not going the McConn’s way. I wonder what is in store for tomorrow. I feel we are ready for something big to happen… gerrykins gets a reprimand for being late for work? Amaral names names? Just have to wait I suppose…

No Sandra, they did not neglect their children.
They just weren’t in the same building as them when their 3 yr old was dragged from her bed by a paedophile - as any decent parent would be.
I asked what evidence you have that Maddie was kidnapped based on the above post. You accuse me of being a Troll? wtf am I suppose to be psychic and read your mind not your post?
Get your story straight, your either saying she was kidnapped or your typing in riddles and saying she wasn’t kidnapped?
I ain’t stupid Karen, don’t treat me as if I was.
