Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…

Stig, How do you do it? How do you so quickly find your comments? Even those that are almost 2 weeks old? I think you are recording your comments, at the very least, I guess they are verey important or valuable to you?
Okay so let’s pretend your conjecture is precisely how the set up was on May 3rd. Aren’t the Mcs on record stating that they all left their doors unlocked so that everyone could check on one another’s kids more easily than having to worry about keys or keycards? Kate was also adamant that Madeleine could not have left on her own. Is that realistic? Even if the front door lock was too high up for her I think the patio door would be easy to unlock and open.
Either way I’ll play along. But wait I know for a fact at least 2 Mark Warner spokespersons are on record stating that the shutters were not compromised. Would you like to see the articles?
But alright let’s play Stig’s imaginary childcare setting McCann style. Their villa door is locked and also the patio door? So the kidnapper came in through the window after having jemmied the shutters. Then he/she quickly picks up Madeleine and exist through the same window he/she entered?
Sorry but I am having trouble understanding why the perpetrator would not simply leave by way of the door? Much easier right? Especially with a child in tow? Was Madeleine awake? Do you think she knew her kidnapper and that’s why she made no noise when being stolen away into the night? She didn’t cry out while her kidnapper struggled carrying her while stepping up and out through the window? Or do you believe there were two kidnappers?
I don’t know I think this is very unlikely and even if it was then there would have been ample noise of shutters and moving about while carrying a child’s body through an unlikely portal. Or are you saying that the person had a key because it was a MW employee? But they still entered and exited using the window?
Are you certain you are not paid? Being in the top 10 on Anorak isn’t a feat you should downplay. It must be grueling hard work. Not only all the writing but the records you keep are meticulous and very orderly. Okay, if not a Scorpio then Capricorn?

Morocco, again. There’s has been one sighting, two, three, 1 hundred… The case is over. Madeleine is a little slave in Morocco (a c0untry full of wealthy arabian families with little slaves) but Mr. Mccann cannot travel to take his daugher back to England because he’s back to work adn wants to return to his normal routine. Too late. He’l light a candle, anyway, for her to be happy with her new family.
The end.

I don’t think they should have left the kids like that. I would never do so myself. I don’t think it was neglect - I think it was an error of judgment. I think Mark Warner has a lot to answer for in offering and promoting the self same ’service’, for purportedly discouraging kids being brought to the restaurant.
Oh, they also failed to mention to guests about the recent burglaries and to perhaps be extra vigilant. Had they done so, we might not all be her talking about this.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You’re like a broken record with this aren’t you? No matter how many times you and others repeat rubbish like this from your database of ‘ready responses’ it will not make leaving young children on their own acceptable.
You say “I think it was an error of judgment” – Yes, one they made on several nights, allegedly
The fact that Mark Warner offers a service doesn’t absolve the parent or carer from taking responsibility for making an appropriate choice for their children. Mark Warner also offer a crèche service and a babysitting service.
Do you have any evidence that moderately behaved and properly supervised children were unwelcome in the restaurant?
I think the burglaries to which you refer were not ‘recent’?
Whether or not there had been burglaries is irrelevant. If the McCann’s hadn’t made a conscious choice to leave their children unattended then we most certainly wouldn’t now be discussing an alleged abduction.
Every time you repeat this nonsense Stig it just hacks of parents, and others who care for/about children, that the McCanns’, their supporters and apologist can conceive of any circumstances in which it might be acceptable to leave young children alone.

I imagine that many readers of Hitchen’s blog also check out the posts and contribute here at Anorak. I mentioned that I would be posting about him and his blog here today, and that’s why I think he may have visited. It really doesn’t matter, one way or the other, if he actually did. When my anger is aroused, it’s not easy for me to quiet the fires, as I tend to be on the obsessive side (as many regular posters here are, I suspect). A good night’s sleep should clear my mood and allow me to let it go.

Dumpbull - fuck off.
November 2nd, 2007 at 1:35 am
Ok Mrs Doyle I take that on board - and I appreciate your comments - it’s just my standards and the Mccanns standards of child care are at odds - I don’t say I’m perfect or never pissed in charge of children but they were never more than a room away in the same house
The legal definitions of neglect are one thing but don’t hide behind legal definitions like Gerry Mccann did - what do you think? If your daughter had been abducted and you had left her alone with even younger siblings would you feel good about that?
I hate to say it but there is loads of speculation and a little bit of evidence - and that little bit of evidence has led the British and Portuguese Police focus on the Mccanns - and as I have said many times in these posts even if the abduction happened - it shouldn’t have done if they were responsible parents that night
I think they are involved sorry

Don’t you think ,after 6 months ,we have the right to know, what the police knows both Portuguese & British .The speculation is only good , for the Mccans , the press ,and all the others ,that are doing money and went to spotline .The british lab ,is forced to delay , sending the proofs to Portugal. All this is just crazy

Last night the McCanns got a boost when the police case appeared to be undermined by a pensioner who is potentially a key witness.
Pamela Fenn, 81, lives above the apartment where Madeleine disappeared and is reported to have told police she heard Madeleine screaming below.
But yesterday she broke her silence to say it was “absolute rubbish” she had made any such claims to police. Mrs Fenn said: “I didn’t even know that family was in there.”

hi stig

this was reported by the express on 23rd august. not a publication i would hang my hat on i admit. do you know when mrs fenn’s retraction was announced and to whom?

I have never, ever defended the decision to leave the children out of earshot. Never.
I have said, and I stick by it, based on years of working closely with social services, that I do not believe that what the McCanns did would result, in the UK, in their children being taken away from them by social services. I know how difficult it is to have a child taken on by social services in far, far worse cases. The most that might happen is a warning not to do the same thing again. Social services are always concerned about amending behaviour which might be considered careless or irresponsible. (I think we can assume, though, that the lesson has been learnt in this case. And then some.)
You may pretend not to believe it but, sadly, many, many parents do similar things on holiday. The Mark Warner staff are reported as saying exactly that on the day after Madeleine’s disappearance. What the McCanns did was reported as being “normal” at that site.
Lots of similar resorts have a “listening service” which consists of a member of staff going round apartments listening for a child crying and then reporting the matter to the parents. This is exactly what the McCanns did, but they did it themselves. (In fact I don’t think this particular site had such a service anyway.)
I myself would never rely on such a listening nor would I even depend on doing my own checks, as they did. 20 minutes is plenty time enough for a child to wake up and be distressed. So I would never, ever make such an arrangement. I would take it in turns with my husband to stay in the apartment unless there was a reliable babysitter available.
On May 3rd, the checks appear to have been more often than every half hour, more like 20 minutes, but even so, I do NOT defend that decision and naver have.
However, that does NOT make them child killers nor does it mean they don’t love their children nor does it mean they are not suffering unimaginably now.
There is no evidence, as yet, of their being guilty of anything more than one poster called “careless child minding”. That is all I say. No evidence yet of being guilty of murder, sedation, desecration of their child’s body etc. etc.
There is every evidence, from their own mouths that they left their children alone and unsupervised.

Madeleine McCann is missing, the rest is purely conjecture. Until we receive facts get on with your lives as normally as possible.

I too think the door might have been locked, which is WHY they were so adamant she had been taken by someone. Faced with no sign of forced entry I think they made up the door being unlocked bit.
So I think it is possible they mislead on this point, because Madeline was gone, the window was open and they assumed the shutter had to have been forced. When confronted with it not being forced, they made something up.
Had they known at the time that there had been a spate of robberies with no signs of forced entry, they might have realised they could have been straight about the door being locked. Then of course there was also that email about the maid who had been fired and had a grudge.
I am purely speculating here, but it is possible there was an abduction and the abductor had a key. Imagine how many people would want to cover that up, from Mark Warner management on down! Look at how quickly they moved the nanny to Greece and they eventually fired the other nanny.
There was that very recent case of several British school girls being sexually assaulted in their room in a hostel in France. The perpetrator obtained a key!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So you’re saying they ‘lied’? Not much of a start to their evidence is it?
As you admitted yourself, your speculating. So, perhaps they didn’t lie and the door really was unlocked?

Again Ade that is your opinion and even if the majority believe as you do , it would not make it fact. Imyself do not believe there is any evidence at this moment to suggest Madeleine is dead, and my understanding is that public opinion is very much divided on that matter at this moment. As regards cover ups and conspiracy theories well, personally I felt as time went on we would hear a few. We always do, don’t we? Idon’t buy them , but then that’s my opinion.
