It’s one of those crazy insults they seem to hurl at women for no particular reason except they are drunk and stupid and don’t know how else to respond. And, Fencesitter, at risk of sounding morbidly cynical, once a story gets to this point, it really is NOT about the child anymore. Who knows what happened to sweet Madeleine– I hope only that she isn’t suffering somewhere. This is absolutely a cultural phenomenon at this point, and it’s all about the media, and the way we use it, and the way we respond to it. Satire, parody, humor. There’s no reason to feel bad… it’s really NOT about Madeleine anymore. Madeleine has probably been dead for six months and what we are doing here is not hurting her.

Fencesitter - I wouldn’t feel too ashamed, the satire is aimed at the media, and the McCanns’ use of the media, with a bit of amateur sleuthing thrown in. It’s not aimed at Madeleine. I think everyone feels sorry for the poor wee thing.

Perhaps you missed some of my recent posts that said I wouldn’t be visiting Hitchen’s blog after today and that after a good night’s sleep, I expected to be over my anger at him, mostly. I’m an emotional person. Once I get riled up, it’s hard for me to cool back down. That’s just the way it is. I hate dishonest, disrespectful behavior–it totally ticks me off. But it doesn’t do me (or anyone else) any good to continue beating the drum once I’ve gotten things off my chest.

Thanks for the link. And about Hitchens - I think you were right to complain about him and I for one am glad you did. There is something very suspicious about him and I think it is important for people to share opinions about online personalities. Especially ones who apparently are wielding a lot of sway over quite a few people. It’s a shame that Paulo and Transfatty’s blogs don’t have as much traffic but maybe that is for the best.

Thea – I **THINK** what Stig is ‘alluding to’ is that there were allegedly a series of break ins prior to the McCann’s arrival. I **THINK** also there may have been no signs of forced entry. Ergo, it would ‘appear’ that someone had a master key/keys.

I will go to bed now, my thoughts are with Madeleine, in case you have forgotten she is a small 3 year old little girl. When you feel compelled to belittle this case look to your , nieces , grandchildren, or god children, or even children and hang your heads in shame. This is for real. I hope the perpratators are brought to justice, and she will rest in peace.

Who cares whether Social Services may or may not take children away? The fact remains that had the McCann’s not made such a crap parenting choice on successive nights, we wouldn’t be here discussing an alleged abduction.
You say ‘many parents do similar things’ – Even if that’s true, it’s still a crap parenting decision.
The fact that a site has a listening service does not absolve a parent or carer from the responsibility of making a sensible parenting choice. Leaving young children unattended is never a good parenting choice.
I see the checking time is now down to 20 minutes.. it was 30 minutes a while ago?
Of course there can be no automatic assumption that they are guilty of anything else just because they make crap parenting decisions on successive nights.
Whichever mealy mouthed way you attempt to dress this up, every time you repeat this nonsense it just hacks of parents, and others who care for/about children, that the McCanns’, their supporters and apologist can conceive of any circumstances in which it might be acceptable to leave young children alone.
And, you say “There is every evidence, from their own mouths that they left their children alone and unsupervised.” This is because if Madeleine wasn’t abducted they absolutely MUST keep up the illusion that Madeleine was alive and well and in the apartment after 9.00 PM on May 3rd. Once you start to challenge the abduction theory you must also start to question the claims of every one who could potentially be involved. Ergo, it is incorrect to assume that just because the McCann’s have admitted to leaving their children unattended, that they left ALL of their children unattended.
