Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…
THE TIMES and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

don’t hold your breath waiting for the PJ to arrive in the uk,my information is that objections are being raised at the highest levels,as to why the PJ should have to travel to another country to interview suspects of a crime committed in Portugal, people are digging their heels in and insisting the suspects be summond to Portugal for further investigations.all very neat, long drawn out extradition procedure will be defended by the suspects expert extradition lawyer, you got to admit they have all the bases covered,or why is one of the first people you retain an extradition lawyer and the best at that.

@Ferdinand. Agreed. Only proves my point, you can’t translate in such a way that it still carries the same satirical vibe.
“That’s too much” would be a closer translation but does not carry the same emotional disapproval as “Das geht zu weit”…

The other day when I made a casual remark about using a credit reference agency to check the McCanns creditworthiness, Stig leaped all over me…far out of proportion to the comment I made.
Stig is quite intelligent and uses a vocabulary I’d associate with the likes of Clarence Mitchell. Perhaps Stig is the McCann monitor in here? Perhaps he was the one who said “oi…have we paid the royalties to those companies on the song?”
Hmmmm….it’s a weird coincidence.

Heather Mills may indeed have a personality disorder. She has devoted the last 20yrs of her life to charity work.
Similarly, if i may make an invaluable observation, a personality disorder is likely to be the case should you choose to spend all day and all night in an Anorak forum, for what appears to be the last 20yrs.
Conclusion : you’re both nuts.
I thankyou.

293 Titanic Rules
Very good analysis - after 6 months I feel that the time for sentimentality is past.
November 1st, 2007 at 1:10 pm
A question for everyone - because this is the one I really can\’t see past when I think about the McCanns:
How does everyone feel about the declarations that the McCanns had \’nothing\’ to do with their child\’s disappearance? I would have thought that, whether she was abducted, had an accident or whatever, the fact that she was in charge of her younger siblings, alone in an unlocked apartment and thus at risk of falling down stairs, into the toilet, of furniture, getting trapped in a fire etc etc etc and that is was her parents who left her in that position would mean that they had EVERYTHING to do with her disappearance.
I have to say I\’d rather live in a country like Portugal where children are valued as members of the family than the UK where apparently the middle classes are queuing up to condone child neglect.

293 Titanic rules! Says:
“I don’t get how you can judge the spoof ad only by relying on the English translation of it.

Above that, the headline “Das geht zu weit” - “That’s enough””
Sorry, but “Das geht zu weit” can’t be translated as “That’s enough”.
So far for proper translation.

Here’s a different version of when the McCanns went to the Tapas Bar:
“Her twin brother and sister, Sean and Amelie, two, lay in cots either side of her. They had been tucked up at 7pm. Half an hour later the McCanns had joined their friends for dinner at the tapas bar.”

Yes, I believe that is true. The whole case has been about smokescreens. I really hope there is some evidence at the PJ to find out who did this. It is embarrassing for me that your nation can be thinking bad of Britain because of the poor media reporting in the UK.

‘…I therefore strongly believe that the majority of the pro-McCanners here are involved in some way with the family, and I will not believe their inevitable denials. …’
It would be interesting to know how many socalled anti-McCanns are part of the family and supporters - after all there is the twins’ welfare to consider, so there would be family vested interests not to be evidence blind.
Just mentioned on Radio 4 Next Tuesday ‘Inside Story’ 9am will cover Madeleine McCann

I don’t get how you can judge the spoof ad only by relying on the English translation of it. In German - in contrast to the translation - the satirical vibe of these sentences clearly pops out. Above that it is published in a well-known German magazine in the middle of satirical pieces. Additionaly it is targeted at a German audience. For people living in Germany - with no connection to the case whatsoever - it slowly gets weird that German media is covering this case so widely. This voyeurism is sickening. And in this context, the spoof ad of a German supermarket with typical German products makes absolute sense. Above that, the headline “Das geht zu weit” - “That’s enough” together with the asteriks* and the very small sentence “She is 4 years old and is missing for…” clearly show that it is directed at the way the media is covering the case. The actual case and the facts are not the priority in the media, the soap opera surrounding it is.

I mentioned this yesterday. Bryan Adams dedicated his concert in Malta to Madeleine. That is beyond dispute because I assume he did sing in Malta and mention Madeleine in the concert. What is in dispute and you have not shown to the contrary is that Bryan Adams only owns 18.75% of that song and can’t therefore give permission for its use without the consent of the other 3 owners.

The song “Don’t you forget about me” was a big hit for Simple Minds in the 1980s.
Interestingly they are a scots band - lots of scottish connections to McConns…
Keith Forsey and Steve Schiff wrote it but I don’t know who owns the copyright…
Fleetwood Mac’s “Little Lies” would be more appropriate…

Oh that’s ok…I’m not suspicious. I like Paul McCartney and I think he’s being shafted to the hilt by HM. I know it’s acting but you still have to be mental to attempt acting at such a piss-poor level don’t you? Why do all these Borderline Personality people devote their time to charitable work? Any psychiatrists out there?

Gerry McCann said: “That song, at the minute, best reflects how Kate and I feel emotionally and how determined we are to continue searching for Madeleine.”
Determined to go back to work more like.

You may be right but I always thought the McCanns needed someone with local knowledge and we still dont know the contents of his computer either.
——————-
m.e.,
so Murat’s the local, but it does not mean he’s directly associated with Madeleine’s disappearance. he could have been the source of information (local knowledge) that helped to successfully conceal her. he could have simply been asked his opinion on a particular location and given that opinion freely - nothing for him to suspect.

Hello! I don’t know what to believe with Metodo 3. I think they are a bad choice of company to use to investigate a missing girl in Portugal. Why choose a Spanish company? Why not use a French or Italian or German or British company? I don’t know why they are being used.
