Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…
THE TIMES and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

Don’t they say “you are what you eat”?
If so, we all know what Gerry likes to eat.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:13 pm
610- Karen- I realize that. But that doesn’t mean Clarence Whatsit called up everyone and invited them to the Work Return.

Dora’s English is only ropey when she is READING comments, so she can misinterpret as she sees fit.
It seems perfectly good when she is WRITING.
I still believe she is close to the McCann organisation - perhaps not geographically, but I’m sure you know what I mean.

Just been looking at the Heather Mills stuff…
Seems to me that KM needs a comparison with/identifying with Heather Mills like a hole in the head. I’m intrigued as to how Comical Clarrie is gonna shake this one off.
I think KM and HM are very similarly untrustworthy - excellent fun…

I can’t help it - matty keeps telling me what she’s making for dinner! I get fed up of pizza over here.

Matt, I’m sure you’ll see in time. We all reveal our biases in time. Stevo just revealed his to me rather quickly!!
And yours?

Darjeeling - they have a P.R.
Gerry is not adverse to press.

……..”Did you mean in how he responds to criticism? Or how he makes himself out to be an insider with confidential information about the case?”
…..both I think…his blogs do have a certain ‘macho’ style to them and seem full of ’sycophants’ !

The German paper, whether or not it seems in poor taste, is at least challenging the McCann circus. I am bewildered as to why no serious journalistic attempts have been made to dig deeper into the Team McCann. It all stinks of cover up, huge fraud, political strings being pulled, people having some sort of control over their ‘friends’. Surely it could be another Watergate? You would think that there must be some rational and dedicated journalist somewhere?
***************
There are rational and dedicated journalists somewhere. They just don’t get their stuff printed.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:08 pm
But it is fairly typical to take the most innocuous of incidents and blame the McCanns for it… people can’t see past their own bias.

I pity poor Pitty sometimes.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:06 pm
598- Stevo- why are you blaming Gerry for the idiotic decisions of the Media? Gerry McCann is like Britney Spears to them: He means MONEY. It’s not Gerry asking for that– it’s the decisions of the TV stations to broadcast these things, and they do so because it brings VIEWERS, and VIEWERS bring MONEY. Don’t you get it? It’s totally not fair to blame Gerry for that.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:06 pm
I think Kate is the one to watch her back. If my world, Gerry is up there with Papa Lazarou, bald pirates, the Judder Man and all things scary!

Stop with the food talk will ya. Pitty is salivating and slathering all over the leather couch.

Matty & Stevo - Will you two stop that please, you are making me hungry. I love lamb, but hubby and son want pizza for dinner, its so not the same lol
November 1st, 2007 at 5:05 pm

My mum was so incensed to see his mug on the news at 1pm she phoned me up to tell me he was on. Someone in here said he was parading like a President with “one more question” shpiel.
Don’t they make you sick!
November 1st, 2007 at 5:04 pm
557-ADE- Kate did stay in the apartment. With several police officers. “Here , officer, could you help me cut up this meat and stuff it in my neighbor’s freezer?”
November 1st, 2007 at 5:02 pm
582 matty
You know how to make me jealous of our great British food don’t you? Lamb is my favourite and you can’t get decent lamb in the USA for love or money. Next you’ll be telling me you’re putting on roast potatoes too. I am definitely coming to the matty household for dinner!
November 1st, 2007 at 5:02 pm
If “Maddie” is a “child slave in Morocco” as the ‘Express’ asks, daddy doesn’t seem too worried about it today.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:02 pm
593…Darjeeling
You probably did.
But none today..as I was explaining to Dora.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:00 pm
Dora, I have personally read several posts comparing them to serial killers. So you are definitely right.
November 1st, 2007 at 5:00 pm
584 dora
Dora, a killer is a killer - whether they are a serial killer or not, they killed someone.
Would you like to invite Fred West round to dinner any more or less than you would Ian Huntley? If the McCanns did kill their daughter then they are up there with the worst of them in my opinion. Infamy has got nothing to do with how many people you kill.
November 1st, 2007 at 4:59 pm
581- so you’re going to blame GERRY for the media frenzy? Yeah, that’s fair!
November 1st, 2007 at 4:59 pm
584…dora
If you re-read my post you
will see I referred to today
as regards comparisions.
Of course you are entitled to your opinion.
You “believe” they are innocent.
Others may “believe” they are guilty.
Only one or both DR’s McCann know for sure
if they killed or did not kill Madeleine.
November 1st, 2007 at 4:58 pm
I understood that Clarence M was only with Gerry McCann on this first day back to deal with the accumulated press who had been outside the hospital for hours and that security was involved NOT to protect Gerry but to avoid any sort of scene at the hospital if the threatened protesters turned up.
It is a hospital after all…. if you’re sick you wouldn’t care who was there or why, all that would matter is that you couldn’t get in.
November 1st, 2007 at 4:58 pm
450- REmigius! LOL! Good one!
I’d give anything for a brain like his, for sure. I’m sure I’d kill for the body, too.
