Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…
THE TIMES and THE GUARDIAN: No Madeleine news today

Brilliant point about Pitty’s frantic search for her dog.
You know, when I first read about the Madeleine case, I remembered how our family dog had once escaped, out into the snow, and that dog was like a child to my grandparents and parents, so we trudged around the neighborhood, night and day, calling the dog’s name, what a lot of crying and carrying on, knocking on doors, searching the kennels….It was freezing cold and wet. I took two days off of work to search, finally went to the vet’s, and he said, oh, your dog is very likely quite nearby, just leave a can of his favorite dogfood out near the house, in snow like this, he’s probably somewhere close, and he will smell the food and come to it….and that is just what we did. In the dead of night, I followed his tracks in the snow with a torch and found him by the bowl.
what joy, what tears….
We were quite prepared to accept that he’d been hit by a car, or something awful. But we really wanted to know what happened, whether the news was good or bad. He was a member of our family.
God. They likely really didn’t care very much about their daughter, did they….
right. am getting coffee now.

That’s OK - it was coolandcalm who tried to make us believe KM was searching. The slur on PJ is typical McConn tactic (MT7 to be precise). The fact she did not search is very important.

Pitty said that when one of her sister’s was stolen by a rival Gypsy band that her mother unhitched the horse and rode it bareback to catch up to the wagon where little sissy was thought to be…….Sissy wasn’t there, by I will tell you that Pitty’s mama was up to taking revenge - and none of it was pretty………

No not dreaming!
But there is another pressing issue to consider
Now that Gerrypops has donned the white gown again
does this mean we are not going to be treated to as many
Gerry’s Blogs in future?
What will his loyal disciples do? Where can they go for their next fix?
Will Clarence be enough?

Julie, I agree although I do know of many cases where the mother’s did go out and search for their daughter. One recent ongoing investigation in the US is a young woman who just graduated from college who was on holiday in Miami and never seen again. Not only did her mother immediately fly down to Miami and assist in the searches for her daughter but within a few months she moved to Miami from NYC to continue looking for her. Another recent case was the Holloway girl who disappeared while on a class trip in Aruba. Her mother went out looking for her and lived in Aruba for sometime to continue searching for her.
So while I know it could be nerves, as a mother myself, I would be conflcited due to having the twins to look after. However, Kate didn’t seem to have any trouble leaving them behind when she went on her European-Vatican gig or her North American Tour. And neither McCann seems shy about exploiting the twins along with Madeleine’s image in photo ops and PR images.

Thea… so how come your ‘first hand witness’ is right but I am lying? My friends were out with the search for several days until the PJ said they were getting in the way of the dogs.
Google and you’ll find photos of Kate on the beach with the PJ!
Give it a rest and don’t try the Xenophobic card with me as you have no idea of my historic nationalty or allegiance!

They didn’t need to be on unpaid leave.
They would be entitled to a sick line because of the stress they were under.”
But then one would have said that they were healthy enough to campaign, so why should they have been paid by the tax payer? The unpaid leave was more honest, and the fund gave them this option, that was clearly stated as one of the purposes of the fund.

They would be entitled to paid leave.
They would go to a doctor to get signed off (not a problem for them, I would have thought).
Then if their bosses wanted, they would have an evaluation after a set length of time, to make sure they’re not faking. They’d get 6 months easy and considering the publicity, I think they’d get any amount of time.

I think you miss the point. Yesterday there were lots of abuse and insults flying around. I suggested it was very easy to do this anonymously from the safety of their computers, but how many regardless of their stance would be prepared to do it face to face.
Julie and Will are the only ones to my knowledge who said they would have the courage to back up their convictions

Yes he did say that every night the men got up to check but he also added that it was about every 20 mins or so. The daily mail and the express reported this.

in the nhs it is possible to take holiday pay and work at the same time, so would it not be possible to recieve compassionate pay and take unpaid leave at the same time?

We here all know that when Pitty’s sweet little Pooh Lovie doggie went missing, that she wore herself into a frenzy trying to find him. Calling at the top of her lungs day and night and wouldn’t stop and the mean thief that stole him, had little Pooh Lovie right next door to us, and Pitty called Lovie’s name so much that the man couldn’t stand it, and after three days said, Oh, Lady is this your missing dog! (I can’t tell you what she did to the thief…….but you can guess right?)
No one got any sleep while Pooh Lovie was missing. Not anyone on the entire block. Pitty was yelling so loud all night long. She even peed in a bottle and sprayed a trail to the house just in case Pooh Lovie forgot how to find his way home.
Pitty never gives up - but that’s why I love her.

Inspector,The more the merrier. Although my husband isn’t crazy about sharing - especially the wine. So bringing another bottle or two will calm his beastly hoarding tendencies. Must have something to do with his attending snobby public British school? Cheers!

In defence of Kate McCann here (something I rarely do). Very, very seldom is the mother of a missing child capable of assisting in any sort of search for their child. So whatever the argument is here about Kate not assisting in the search for Madeleine, I can quite understand, as a mother, that she would have been absolutely useless in helping with anything.
However, on the other hand, when the mother of a missing child is interviewed, they absolutely crack-up at any mention of their child …. something which was very lacking here!

facesitter, julie is right, it is still only just recently seen as acceptable to criticise or question the sterile mccanns (excuse the pun), and so many people are still afraid to go out on a limb and say that something is amiss

holy howlers
I was wondering if I’d dreamt it…
And another thing - they have recently denied having a pact of silence. But some weeks ago Payne reported that they did have a pact of silence:
“Gerry and Kate’s friends, who are interrogated tightly by the PJ over almost a month, refuse to clarify this contradiction, when asked by Sol. “We have a pact. This is our matter only. It is nobody else’s business”, says David Payne, another element with the group. Minutes after we tried to contact Kate, Gerry, in a fury, calls the Sol journalist: “What do you think you are doing? Do you think you’re better than the portuguese police? I’m going to forward your contact to PJ and you will have to explain yourselves”.”

Sorry, I lost track of your post on this, but I do think that the issue of unpaid leave versus paid leave needs to be explored a bit more.
Most hospitals, out of compassion, would give paid leave, don’t you think? There has to be a standard contract the McCanns both have in terms of taking leave. Does anyone know about this? I will ask some of my docs. I know one recently told me he took a medical leave, and his hospital paid something like 70% of his salary. If Gerry could contend he was physically unable to work due to stress, then he should have been on some kind of paid leave.
However, I wonder what kind of right taking a PAID leave would have given the hospital. Would they have the right to physically examine kate and Gerry? Would they have the right to order them to a psychiatrist?
It is interesting. Anybody know anything? The doctor who told me about his leave had to submit to a physical exam, confirming the condition. He received 70%, and was out almost a year.

Yes I am still amazed. I was so sure the family were involved. We live in the same type of house as us but theirs had been turned into two flats and from outside it would be so difficult to know where the bathroom would be or even which rooms belonged to which flat.
