Madeleine McCann: A Titanic Struggle With The Germans And Slavery In Morocco
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “IS MADELEINE A CHILD SLAVE IN MOROCCO?”
“Madeleine McCann may have been condemned to a life of slavery working as a ‘little maid’ for a rich Arab family…” Or not
Page 5: “’Madeleine will be used as a little maid’” – so suggests Inspector Hicham Alaoui of the Moroccan Police in El Hajeb near Fez
Little maids, notes the paper, are “collected by rich families as ‘curiosities’ as well as servants. A woman from a group called Ecpatuk says such children are “vulnerable to abuse”. The Express sys the girls are abused “physically, emotionally and sexually”. Can Madeleine McCann be among them? Maybe…
“Sacked detective called in to help with the probe” – Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is talking with new chief Paulo Rebelo
“Fury over magazine ‘sick’ ads” – German magazine titanic has lampooned the case, using Madeleine’s image in spoof supermarket adverts. Gerry and Kate McCann call it “sick” and “very hurtful”. The magazine says Madeleine McCann is “getting a bit much for many people”
DAILY MIRROR front page: “Clear us… you have no case”
Says a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann: “They are adamant they should now be cleared”, as are many suspects in ongoing investigations
Page 7: “McCann ‘clear us’ demand’” – Says Clarence Mitchell: “If the reports are true clearly it would indicate the police absolutely, and quite rightly, have no case against Kate and Gerry”
DAILY MAIL front page: “Oh. Come off it, Heather, how dare you compare your ordeal to Kate McCann’s?” Heather Mills is on the telly
Page 7: “Police pursuit of McCanns ‘is running out of steam’” – The public prosecutor in Portugal says Kate and Gerry McCann will not face further police interviews “unless detectives can produce stronger evidence against them”
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former detective with Surrey Police, says the McCann’s private detectives could be on the wrong trail in Morocco. Or not
THE SUN page 24: “GERMAN MAG’S SICK JOKES ABOUT MADDIE – McCanns’ horror as spoof ad pokes fun at lost girl”
Ad advert in satirical Titantic magazine promises the kitchen cleaner will “remove all traces at the home” even DNA traces. The adverts warn that just because Madeleine’s face is on the product it does not mean they can be taken for free. The Sun is disgusted. It reproduces the images and the words to allow its readers to share in its disgust
A march on the German embassy is not yet in the planning
DAILY STAR front page: “MADDIE SICK NEW TWIST – Horror at German abuse of missing tot”
The Germans have her. A German paedo!
Page 7: “TOTALLY SICK – A full reproduction of the spoof adverts. “McCann’s agony as rag mocks hunt for Maddie.” Thanks to the Star and Sun, the McCanns now know that an obscure German magazines has made jokes about their case
Says Clarence Mitchell: “It shows Madeleine herself no respect… The magazine did not seek permission to use Madeleine’s image to be used on this so-called joke. It they had it would almost certainly not have been given”
So much for doing anything to keep Madeleine in the news
THE INDEPENDENT page 5: “Mills: I am treated as badly as Kate McCann and Diana.” More on Lady Mucca
THE TELEGRAPH page 9: “Madeleine police ‘consult sacked head of inquiry’” – chief inspector Goncalo Amaral is on the case. Sort of
The paper says detectives are “no closer to solving the case”. And the campaign to find Madeleine goes on…

Judge Dread
Doctors have been on paid leave while suspended, for years sometimes. I think they would get paid leave if they needed it.

We know Madeleine boarded the plane and was on the bus at an airport. Obviously she got to Portugal.
Hmmmm….I wonder if the Tapas 9 flew in from different airports on different days? Are you implying that “Madeleine” seen by creche staff was actually one of the other kids?
Ok, this is too far fetched. The staff have seen photos of Madeleine from years ago. That would need an identical twin to Madeleine.
Hmmmm….didn’t O’Brien’s wife get pregnant at exactly the same time? I know one of the T9 did…read it somewhere.
Stop it! You’re confusing me now because I can’t discount it.

851 Karen…
The rules of NHS sick leave are absolutely rigid and cannot be bent for anyone or any reason.
It was said in the beginning that they were on compassionate leave for a month (the maximum staff are allowed) and then unpaid after that. I don’t think there are any benefits they could qualify for, especially as they were abroad.
If you work for a private company there is probably more flexibility but not in government.

Can you explain more about this?

There are only two forms of paid absenteeism. Annual holidays which starts at four weeks and increase with length of service. There is also sick leave for a limited period unless it is as a result of an industrial accident. Any other authorised absenteeism is usually unpaid leave.
Some companies do allow additional authorised paid absence depending on the reason, and on humanitarian grounds. The NHS is not one of them though because the money for funding the NHS comes from public funds.
People on unpaid leave can claim Social Security benefit and have the interest on their mortgages paid for them.

You are correct that both Mccanns could have had a sickness note for high stress and anxiety and I am certain that no-one would have begrudged then that at least until September. The problem may lie in as much as they were not in the UK at the time. I do not know how it works if you go sick abroad.

I still don’t know why it struck a nerve. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people paying their household expenses and mortgage to know what they are worth.
Shit…the dole office check out how much savings you have and there’s means testing on loads of other issues. For all the fund contributors know, the McCanns could have 100,000 quid in savings stashed away for a rainy day.

Wow…so you think she had gone even days before May 3? That’s radical. I have wondered something though. Those pictures of K&G pushing two kids in the push-chair are obviously not Amelie and Sean. What’s that about then? Nobody would be taking those kind of photos before May 3…I’m confused. Elaborate on your ludicrous theory.
++++++++++++++++++
OK.. Firstly I don’t “think” she was gone days before May 3rd. I’m just firing out a random thought for debate and seeing if it could possibly hold any water?
That picture of K&G pushing two kids from recollection was taken after 3rd May, I think someone here said it was circa 9th May and on or other may be the O’Brien’s child? I could be wrong here so please do double check if it’s important.
Back to my ridiculous theory…. Just suppose that whatever alleged accident happened had occurred on the day of arrival on holiday, or possibly any subsequent day prior to the 3rd. You would need to account for the whereabouts of ALL the children of the Tapas party, plus any others who may have been about, back to the other chap from Exeter. Oh yes and was Murat’s daughter visiting per chance? What you’re looking for is one child being unaccounted for, but it would NOT be Madeleine, because you would need to keep up the charade that Madeleine was there up until 3rd May.
Meanwhile, that gives you some considerable time to arrange to move a body…

UNISON is one of the hardest working unions there is - I can’t see them allowing someone’s entitlement to compassionate leave to be messed with.
I think he either thought it would look noble or was toying with the idea of a media career.

“Your child is kidnapped?
And if you weren’t famous and you didn’t have a fund what then? You back to work? You resign and go on benefits? You beg on the streets?”
Until 6 month ago I would have contiued to work if possible and leave the case to the police. But meanwhile we all know better what to do.

There is no excusing Kate for not having looked for Madeleine that first night and at least the following day. What if Madeleine HAD just wandered off and was lost or hiding or had broken away and ran from an abductor–who would she most likely respond to? Her parents, of course! Just as a pet would more likely come to its owner’s voice than a stranger calling its name.
This, to me, is one of the most telling aspects of the case that point to the McCanns either knowing exactly what happened to Madeleine or not caring about her welfare (or perhaps both).
The McCanns were always ready to urge others to keeping looking for Maddie, but Kate couldn’t be bothered to. Double shame.

Why don’t you go on holiday to PDL in apartment 5a and dress up as Madeleine. Take the McCanns with you and re-enact May 3? Maybe you’ll disappear too.

“I said that a few days ago. I went so far as to say their creditworthiness should be checked as a matter of course. Stig jumped all over me for saying it - I really hit a nerve with him on that.”
What I objected to, and still do, was your suggestion that someone on these forums do a credit check on the McCanns. No one here has the right to engage in that level of intrusion into their personal affairs.
If the PJ or British police want that sort of information then they will obtain it if legaly entitled to. That, I have no problem with.
