Madeleine McCann: Mafia, A Bag Of Clothes And Missing Children
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
NEWS OF THE WORLD: “Maddie DNA clue in airport bag”
A bag of clothes containing “DNA linked to Madeleine McCann” has been found dumped by a road in Portugal.” It is a white carrier bag. It was in a layby two weeks ago near Faro airport.
“The bag contained a blue fleece jacket and a pair of adult jeans with traces of DNA that contained ‘moderate’ links to Madeleine”. And: “There was also a SHOWER CURTAIN inside.” And a white flannel, a green elastic band, a light green child’s T-shirt with a green flower on the front and a pink and blue pencil case with a pink heart motif
“Godfather in Madeleine hunt… Crime godfathers in Morocco—where there have been several alleged sightings of Maddie - have been told cops will scale back drug busts if they do”
SUNDAY MIRROR front page: “MY LITTLE MADDY” - a picture of Madeleine McCann on a pony with Kate McCann by her side
• “McCanns heartache as Cops say: “Case closes in 7 weeks
• Police to leave cloud of suspicion over Kate and Gerry”
SUNDAY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE MYSTERY – McCANN FRIENDS TO BE NAMED AS SUSPECTS”
“Dr Russell O’Brien and his partner Jane Tanner, Matthew Oldfield and Dr David Payne were last night forced to bring in their own lawyers after increasing fears that Portuguese police were preparing to implicate them in the case of the vanished four-year-old girl”
So will they be named as suspects or not? The Express say yes and then prevaricates
DAILY STAR ON SUNDAY front page: “MADDIE SIX MONTHS ON – 15 NEW CLUES”
That picture of Madeleine McCann on a horse. A clue?
SUNDAY PEOPLE: “ANSWER OUR PRAYERS - ON THE SIX-MONTH ANNIVERSARY OF LOSING MADDIE Kate weeps at church service for Maddie as parents suffer crushing blow”
“The devout couple first took two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie for ‘a few moments of solitude’ at their village church to remember missing Maddie”
A solitude watched by person who told the press? No need with Clarence Mitchell to fill in the gaps, Says he: “Kate and Gerry wanted a few moments of solitude praying for Madeleine with the twins”
Inside the church: “A collage of pictures of a happy Maddie - including the one…of her sitting on a black Shetland pony - took pride of place near the altar. Six snaps of the youngster next to smiling faces of other missing children were pinned onto a green notice board. Supporters were encouraged to look at the pictures before praying”
And they pray for…
The People looks at “respected” Portuguese daily Publico, which tells: “Six months on from Madeleine’s disappearance, the police theory remains the same. That the child died by accident in her room - and her parents committed the crime of hiding her body”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine’s parents hold prayer vigil six months to the minute after she disappeared”
There are about 200 people at the “700-year-old church” near Rothley, Leicestershire
The McCanns are suspects
“Other missing children - including British toddler Ben Needham, who disappeared while on holiday in Greece in 1991, were also remembered at the service”
Did Ben Needham’s family ask for this? Want it?
Says the Rev Rob Gladstone: “Comfort and liberate all those, especially young children who have been taken from their families against their will, give courage to their grieving families”
A board says “Pray for all missing children.” How were the faces on the board selected? Many children are missing
THE INDEPENDENT: “Six months after Madeleine, another 600 are still missing”
Missing persons charities yesterday released figures “showing that more than 600 children have been missing in the UK for as long as Madeleine McCann, and are still unaccounted for”
Many are foreign. Many are teenagers. Not all are blonde
DAILY TELEGRAPH: “Prayers for Madeleine McCann, six months on”
“The 3,500-strong population of Rothley - its trees decked in yellow ribbons and messages of support - came to a near standstill as Kate and Gerry arrived from their nearby home”
Locals can’t move for the press?
Rothley is an “affluent Midlands enclave”. This is McCann Land – the enclave - a small territory culturally and ethnically different form the surrounding lands
Says Gerry in his blog: “We have no idea whether she is suffering, but we have to hope and pray that she is being treated like a princess, as she deserves”
THE GUARDIAN: “Madeleine book notes the ‘contradictions’”
More on Maddie 129, a book by Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia
“The message is that the case just doesn’t add up,” says a representative of the book’s publishers
THE SCOTSMAN: “Six months on, McCanns in new Maddie plea”
The picture of Madeleine on a Shetland pony was taken on a day out at the Hatton Country World park in Warwickshire on April 13 – “less than three weeks before she went missing”
THE TIMES: “Gerry McCann: ‘our princess prayer for Madeleine’”
Gerry McCann’s blog: “It is so painful for us simply being separated, but all the more distressing when we have to speculate about the situation Madeleine finds herself [in]. We have no idea whether she is suffering but we have to hope and pray that she is being treated like a princess, as she deserves”

595 Ferdinand.
I do not accept what they did was a ‘mistake’ and am completely confident that I would never ‘accidentally’ do anything like they did. Its simply not possible to say ‘ooops I left my sub 4 year old and two two year old kiddies alone in an unlocked flat in a foreign country whilst I went off drinking and playing in a quiz’.
Its this idea the Mccanns propogate which so much inflames passions against them.
Not only that, but they are people in very responsible positions who are expected to be beyond reproach. In my view that should be struck off - they are not sufficiently responsible to hold a position which could enable them to judge others of similar offences.

remingus, the unfortunate thing is, comical clarence would prolly be able to sue them for professional embarrasment, he would say they misled him and damaged his name and integrity

“Freudian Slip there Stig. I knew you were in Scotland. Only the Scots say jobie.”
Wrong.
“And the James Bond film is Golden Eye…not Golden Bum.”
Wrong again.
The Man With the Golden Gun ring any bells? Oddjob was Scaramangas diminutive side kick - so if you are going call me Golden Bum - you can be the underling - Odd Jobie.
________________________________________________________
Is it me or is Stig just plain daft? I can’t find “Golden Bum” in the list of James Bond movies.

605 - Stevo. A dog exhibiting humour. Absolutely! And let’s not forget the mischeivous magical rabbits that we’ve all seen popping cheekily out of top-hats - simply to amuse the kids! The scamps!

I’m afraid me ol buddy that all the spin you keep piling on us is just making your case look even more desperate. If you want us to believe that your posts have some integrity about them then I would suggest you post facts about the case. Not mumbo jumbo that some person we cant relate to writes.

Stevo, Ade, Dr. Watson,
If the McCanns are found guilty of some form of homicide or even neglect, do you think that Comical Clarence could be charged with some form of being an accessory? Paid, professional public spokespeople don’t get the same kind of protections that lawyers do for making remarks about their clients, do they?
If clarence’s remarks were found to mislead the public and/or the police, could he be charged with being an accessory, or with something related to dissemminating false information about a crime?
Just wondering what your opinions might be.

Thanks for your opinion Judith but I think you’re wrong. 99% of a chimp’s DNA matches a human and a human is only a different form of animal from a point of view of biology. Of course it’s right to make comparisons with animals and human behaviour. Doesn’t a cat show its kitten’s love? Doesn’t a dog recognise and exhibit humour?
November 4th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
I just bet there are a lot of people who want their money back after donating to the fund in the early days. Still, those people can rest assured that the McCanns can continue living in their posh house thanks to their donations. We wouldn’t want to see them struggling to manage now there is only one salary coming in. £75,000 a year is an absolute pittance.

Stevo. You say ‘humans can be worse than animals’ and I know you are on the right side in saying this, but I would go further and declare that animal behaviour should never be compared to human behaviour and vice versa. Humans are the top of the pile and because of this and their ability to reason, make decisions, influence events, love, hate, have a conscience, take responsibility (or not)act nobly or otherwise, and so on..and on…they are uniquely blessed. and cursed. Animals are a much simpler form of life and we must see them as such, love them and pity them but never compare them to us. There is no comparison.

Married, family, 2 kids. Why do you ask?”
Because I ask myself why you as so many other people are so keen to point your finger on the McCanns who obviously made a mistake, you may even regard it as neglect, and you may be sure that that sort of mistake will never happen to you, but maybe you could make other mistakes as a parent.
You repeatedly said that they have not admitted their guilt convincingly, however I think that is a bit to much for parents to accept in public, that it was to some extend their own fault that they lost their child, so why on earth do you request them to do so?
Let this story teach other parents a lesson, that’s OK. Do you think that any parents who would not be warned by the McCanns faith would be impressed if they were prosecuted?

THE THOUGHTS OF Francisco Moita Flores, university professor
[Note: I have added the comment of a poster on another forum below. And then one of my own]
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
SIX MONTHS LATER
*******
They called the TV stations before they called the police, they abandoned their siblings to go out for dinner, they falsified the truth.
*******
Six months after Maddie’s disappearance, we still believe the truth is hidden behind the veil of fantasy surrounding the mystery. Everyday children around the world disappear. Most of them turn up after a few days or a few weeks.
Madeleine didn’t return. A rare case. In Portugal there were only seven such cases in the last twenty years. All of them made the news but with the passing of time the emotions healed and the news got scarce. That wasn’t so with Maddie.
I think the reason for this wave of news is connected to the veil of mystery surrounding the psychodrama. And the parents made a decisive contribution for this gigantic circus to attain the proportions that, slowly, are devouring its architects.
They called the TV channels before calling the police, they took their time to ask the authorities for help, they abandoned their siblings for the sake of a dinner with friends, they falsified the truth regarding their three children’s’ sleep control, they instigated a strong psychological pressure for an adduction to have happened, they mobilized to their cause, with the complicity of the British government, personalities of international charisma, such as the Pope. In short: they surrounded the police.
As the propaganda-like apparatus caused public opinion’s emotion to grow, through well-planned statements and public actions, it generated enough money to pay for PR teams, technicians, assistants, sympathies the likes of which had never before been seen in a similar case.
For weeks the McCanns swore not to leave the Algarve until there were news of her daughter, they multiplied the visits, the posters, the prayers and the interviews. Always hand in hand and always far from explaining the facts that happened that night. Always around them, showing grief, revealing true pain for the disappearance of their daughter. The press from all the world came to help this distressed couple.
However, as time went by, the contradictions in their own testimonies, the plastic lightness of their own interventions gave maneuvering space to the Portuguese and British police. And the first more difficult questions revealed how unsustainable was the abduction theory, sold at the price of affliction to TV chains worldwide.
The first suspicions arose, the embarrassing questions multiplied, and it was another monumental shock that made the dam of restraint come crashing down when it was known that everything pointed to a murder, albeit accidental, having taken place inside the apartment.
The rage that then sprang in the British media, taken by passions, is not against Portugal. It’s against itself. Against the fact that it was wronged and didn’t realize it on time. And today we all know the truth that is hidden in the mystery. But we are unable to explain how we were fooled and how this truth came to exist beyond our bewitched eyes. Only the police forces will, one day, be able to clear the monumental scam in which we believed in. Until then, the soap opera will continue until our credulity goes into mourning in the appearances of gestures. Maybe in six months time. I don’t know.
— Francisco Moita Flores, university professor
COMMENT FROM ANOTHER FORUM: “I have been thinking a long time now that for a lot of people it is a problem to admit that they had allowed the McCanns to fool them.
I believed them for a long time and defended them but when I realised (albeit late) what was being played, I felt ‘personally’ betrayed. That must be a big motive behind some of their last supporters. It is not a nice feeling, to know that your judgement was wrong and that you have been fooled.”
MY OWN COMMENT: How tragic it will be for folk like The Real Stig and Garth when they find out that they, too, have been duped. I prefer the opinion of Professor Francisco Moita Flores and the McCann-sceptics on this Forum to the opini0ns of those two. And I was none-too-impressed with Bernadine Kennedy, either

You claim that Ade is a Team McCann plant and insinuate that he has a devious motive for being on this forum. Can you please explain this further.
November 4th, 2007 at 6:37 pm

Jolie is correct. This case poses too many questions of possible government interference, either inadvertently in good faith or otherwise to be a run of the mill abduction story. I have never seen a case where ordinary members of the public have been afforded PR and embassy privileges - with amazing speed too (compare this with murdered young woman in Perugia -a consul is making her way there from Rome - no question of the ambassador being directly involved).
I am not saying that the McCanns are necessarily the instigators of the political pressure that appears to surround the case - Portugal and the UK has its own reasons for possibly controlling the flow of news and evidence around this case.
