Iftikhar Chaudhary, ‘The Hypcorite Ex Chief Justice of Pakistan’
PAKISTAN is reeling. And a look at Iftikhar Chaudhary, “The Hypcorite ex Chief Justice of Pakistan”:
I’m talking mostly on the basis of gut feeling but I am not particularly a fan of (now ex) Pakistani Chief Justice, and arch Musharraf nemesis, Iftikhar Chaudhary. Something’s very wrong with this guy, but I have no idea what.
First, there is this article on PakistanPolitics.net from an anonymous Pakistani lawyer about how Chaudhary felt completely free to flout the Constitution when it suited him. Excellent piece.
Second, is the fact that Chaudhary just issued an a ruling against Musharraf’s Provisional Constitutional Order, yet had no problem taking an oath on Musharraf’s Provisional Constitutional Order in 1999! This is from Wiki:
In January 2000 Chief Executive General Musharraf dictated that all superior court judges swear a new oath under the PCO No.1 issued on October 15, 1999, which had suspended the Constitution of Pakistan. After swearing an oath on the PCO Justice Iftikhar was elevated to the Supreme Court on 4 February 2000.
So what would make him switch completely to the other side? I have two potential theories, one bullshit and one likely.
1) This is completely conspiracy theory, but Chaudhary is Baloch, and between 1999 and 2006, Musharraf did kill a major Baloch leader (Bugti) and crushed the Baloch movement. Maybe he’s got some ethnic resentment?
2) In 2007, Chaudhary ruled against a steel mills privatization deal that would have benefited Musharraf’s Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’ friend. After this point, Aziz advised Musharraf to suspend Chaudhary. So there’s motive for Chaudhary right there. What I would love to find out more is whether Chaudhary’s cohorts were the alternative buyers

WHAT A STATEMENT by Mr Nauman — “Ifthikar is a pawn and is bieng used by the powers who run the financial system of the world to take down Pakistan”. Can the enlightened commentator substantiate his claims? Many thanks!

Ifthikar is a pawn and is bieng used by the powers who run the financial system of the world to take down Pakistan - the sooner you lot realize the better. If Iftikhar is so great then why was Judicary the most corrupt intitution in Pakistan at the time of his leaving, I thought he was the leader of the justice, gareeb ka insaaf, where was the insaaf under Mush’s rule? What about all the cases that have been sitting there fo 25 years, where was Ifthikhar then?
Wake up!

i dont say that iftikhar choudary is the most pious person but he is the one who has learnt from his mistake of legalising musharaf govt/PCO in 1999.But we should accept that he is the one who took the bold step of relieving the general public by giving good decisions so its better for us to remind about his good qualities instead of givig stupid logics to justify iftikhar cho. as a hypocrate

Oh my God!!! I dont believe someone (assuming sanity) would even have the audacity to write something like this. Ahmad is correct, do your research! And yes, Choudhary is not a Baloch. The Steel Mill btw never got sold so rest assured his ‘cohorts’ did not get it. The judiciary’s independence credit goes to the legal fraternity of Pakistan; names like Aitzaz Ahsan, Ahmed Ali Kurd, Muneer Malik, etc and not just Justice Choudhary!
And yes for the Bugti comment, Justice Choudhary opened the cases of people illegally held by the Agencies. In his interview, Musharraf blamed the judiciary of releasing 61 black listed terrorists. but no court in the world would give a ruling on gut feeling unless you can give any evidence (btw there were not even any cases for these people, let alone evidence!).
I can write for ages and ages but I think you are just a 12 year old who has no idea of whats going on, so I had rather not comment any further.
For the rest of the sane readers, please please please voice your protests in whatever capacity you can; light candles for soladarity, wear black arm bands, dresses, write on BBC, Cnn and other sites to build a foreign pressure. Show we are alive as a nation!
