SAYS Mitt Romney: “I’m happy to answer any questions people have about my faith and do so pretty regularly,” the former Massachusetts governor said. “Is there going to be a special speech? Perhaps, at some point. I sort of like the idea myself. The political advisers tell me no, no, no — it’s not a good idea. It draws too much attention to that issue alone.”
Why would a man’s religion be an issue in the Land of the Free?

You know so much about the church, wow, it sounds like you rebelled against the religion and probably your parents too. Good luck doing it your own way.

How can we give credence to anything you say when you can’t spell?

I have been a Mormon; I am aware that “the church” , as Mormons call their religion, requires them to put “the church” first over the laws of the land.
Look back and see how they fought the USA over polegamy; how much they wanted to be a State, and how coincidental it was that “the church”s president just happened to receive a revelation from God to stop polegamy just when it was needed so they coul be a state.
Look how they kept blacks out of the power-hierarchy of the church until well after the civil rights movement had calmed down. And blacks are still held at a lower level.
Look how they have always claimed that the Indians of America came from long ago Israel - and were Jewish. But DNA tests have proven them wrong…now they don’t talk about it, or teach it in Sunday School so much.
They claim that their founder, Joseph Smith, translated some old Egyptian manuscripts, saying they were the book of Abraham. But, all they were only old funerary papers, hidden, and then “found” by some people that wanted to test Smith.
Mormons have a preplanned pattern for everyone’s life - from birth to schooling, to marriage, to temple rites, to death. If you move from Omaha to Denver, when you go to church it’s possible you’ll be in a building just like the one you left, the congregation will be doing the same things, hearing the same things (as all lessons are coordidnated ahead of time).
And, they are told not to look into other ways of thinking and make up their own mind. They treat each other as heretics if they find out anyone is questioning “the church’s” principals and policies.
Perhaps none of this is “wrong” if you choose to be a Mormon; but millions of us do not choose that, and I, for one, don’t want them running the country in the same pattern as they run their church. Remember, any President is going to fill the majority of positions with people like themselves.
(And forget about women’s rights, or gay rights, or birth control, and other social issues we want to end the controversy over, and move forward so we can fulfill our role as world leader. So we can once again take our place among the top nations of the world and solve the economic problems to the benefits of everyone, not just the privledged ((or Mormon)) )
I doubt this response will pass the censors……so I’ll just have to copy it and use it elsewhere. But to whomever reads it, think again before you support Mitt.

At least Muslims don’t knock on my door at 9AM on a Sunday Morning wanting to talk …. When I am busy trying to sleep!
I didn’t call mormons morons… however… if the cap fits…

Andrew, you were defending Muslims on another post? Aren’t Mormons people too?
I like the way the Mormons were founded by a man claiming to have discovered a new bible buried in the ground and he was helped by an Angel or something???
Anyway, a politician shouldn’t have to justify his faith unless he’s supporting or opposing laws or policies purely on the basis of his faith and not on the needs of his electorate.

Mormon/Moron what a difference one letter can make

Well, it’s gravely unfortunate to see this happen. That’s one of the MAIN reasons this country was even founded: To obtain FREEDOM of religion. The mormons are very respectable and family oriented people and there are TONS of misconceptions about their faith. It’s interesting to note that polls say like 30%-40% of people will not vote for a Mormon but more than 50% of those polled really don’t know much about the faith.
Feel free to disagree with their theology but that has nothing to do with his ability to run this country. If you had an emergency that required surgery, when they wheeled you into the operating room, would you ask the surgeon, “Excuse me… but are you a Mormon?” No way… you’d say, “Just do what you need to do to save my life!” You wouldn’t care about anyone’s faith… you’d only expect them to be qualified in their ability to do their job. Mitt Romney fits that description.
