Madeleine McCann: A Bedroom, A bed And A Blanket
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “FIRST PIC OF SNATCH SCENE – INSIDE MADDY’S BEDROOM”
A picture of the holiday bedroom from where Madeleine McCann vanished. Useful. Perhaps seeing it will jog your memory…
The Mirror highlights three areas of the room:
DOOR: “LAST LOOK. Dad Gerry last saw his daughter form this door”
BED: “HER BED - “Rumpled covers and pillow on mattress”
WALLS: “UNTOUCHED – Room is as it was after police forensic team finished work”
We commend to your attention the shards of sardine roll, cigarette ash dropping and big footprints
The picture is an “EXCLUSIVE”
MADDY COPS WANTS McCANNS SILENCED” – A plan to do harm to Kate and Gerry McCann?
Almost as bad: “Portuguese police may gag Madeleine McCann’s parents by keeping them suspects for the next 15 years.” So too Robert Murat. This one has along way to run
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – THE HUNT SWITCHES TO BOSNIA AFTER NEW SIGHTING”
Page 9: “Tourist spotted Madeleine – I heard her yell: ‘I want my daddy’”
The Express hears news from Medugorje, Bosnia, the site of a Catholic shrine. As reported on Anorak, the man sees a girl who looks like Madeleine. He reports it to local police. Police shrug. He tells the McCanns’ private detective firm. They check the expense account. They respond
The “father of six”, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, who asked not to be named, says: “From the minute I saw them, there seemed to be something odd going on. They both had a very swarthy complexion and the toddler with them was a blonde, fair child.” Dark, you say?
“She was wearing a little pink coat and was very agitated and sobbing. The instant I saw her my heart skipped a beat because it struck me that she looked like Madeleine McCann. I felt sure there was something wrong and started to move towards them. As they saw me coming, they started walking faster away from me. I was sure the child they had was not theirs. I got right up beside them, and was about to speak to the child when the man put his hand over her mouth and shoved her into the car. He was pushing her into the back seat and was yelling in a language I didn’t understand.”
“First look at bedroom” – Unless you have already seen the Mirror that is
“New nightmare as McCanns could be suspects for 15 years” – Says Francisco Pagarete, Robert Murat’s lawyer: “The problem is that in Portugal a suspect can remain an arguido for 15 years without any need for police to reapply or extend the status”
No problem for the press
THE SUN page 11: “MADDIE;S BEDROOM.” This is the “FIRST PICTURE” of “Inside the McCann holiday flat”
For those readers unfamiliar with the contents of a “bedroom”, the Sun uses an arrow pointing towards a box-shaped presence and tells us: “Bed she was in before she went missing.” A second arrow points to a “Blanket”
Clarence Mitchell hears of the sighting in Bosnia. Says he:”We are not dismissing it. The witness was 99.9 per cent certain the child was not with her natural parents”
DAILY MAIL page 19: “First photo of Maddie flat as hunt switches to Bosnia”
“Its narrow beds have been stripped of their sheets so they can be analysed for evidence”
And in Bosnia, the “very swarthy” people are with Madeleine. Like the man in Belgian, perhaps…
DAILY STAR page 9: “BOMBSHELL BOOK POINTS FINGER AT MADDIE PARENTS”
Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia have written Maddie 129. the Star says the book claims some of the Tapas Seven “had already given up searching for Madeleine and were in their own flats 90 minutes after the alarm was raised because ‘they already knew where she was’”
An American artist has been employed by the Star to make Madeleine’s hair from blonde to dark. (Non-experts can use a felt tip or boot polish)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE DETECTIVES CHECK NEW SIGHTING AT BOSNIAN SHRINE”
Page 7: Says Clarence Mitchell: “But as with all these reports, the McCanns refuse to raise their hopes until it has been investigated fully”
NEW YORK TIMES: “European Tabloids Still Agog Months After Child Vanishes”
“Six months after Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal, no development in the case seems too small to merit a banner headline — even the news that her father had returned to his job as a doctor. Similarly, no story is too speculative”
THE GUARDIAN, THE INDEPENDENT and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news

Interesting about the comments that there were translation issues on the original Tapas testimonies–if I am reading the posts here correctly. Good find for the person who found the old Daily article about the sealed video tapes (lets hope they fixed the audio that time around!)
But having read the translation from El Mundo myself this morning from O’Brian’s lawyer, there is no mistaking its meaning.
O’Brian feels an implied threat from those handling the McCann’s affairs.
The only political person that we know for sure has been in touch with O’Brian, is Clarrie.
Also the McCann dreamteam may have been in touch with him as well.
The economic pressures, we don’t know yet.

Tanner’s 1st “indication” re the “Eggman”
could indeed be due to the reasons you
quote.
However why should her 2nd “indication”
re the Swarthy faceless man “urgently
striding” ((in the opposite direction of
her “Eggman)) be considered so worthwhile
that it was published nearly 6 months later?
Important enough for Dr G P McCann to refer
to it’s “Importance” in his Blog as being witnessed
by an Independent Witness.
Whilst at the same time omitting to say that the
“Independent Witness” was none other than a “friend”
of his.

555. Steve T! “did you pack that body yourself”?
LOL! I am so glad I didn’t have any coffee sispped just before reading that excellent blurb!
November 12th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
552 Im sure I did, but can’t recall where. Stevo will know for sure.

Now that was a good post.

Just occasionally I find it liberating to say what’s on my mind!

550 Thea - I read it when it said ‘Anyone want to babysit?’…
They are being thorough arent they!

548. Right Bizzy that’s why I thought this US murder trial would be of interest here. There have been reports that there was very little blood and then a lot of commenters are under the impression that you must have a body to prosecute.

I dont believe that they did not go through security. They also normally ask questions like “did you pack that body yourself”.

please excuse the typo errors - but Pitty is rubbing my neck and that drives me wild - hard to concentrate……and try to pay bills……the Mark Warner is taking our last dime and now we just might have to come up with a few dirty tricks of our own - and hustle some news leaks to pay for dinner……. I hear the price being paid for good MM leaks are reaching record levels - Sky News is that desperate!

Totje Says:
Laughable “descriptions” of a faceless kidnapper from Tanner
Comment: you’re right, one the other hand, have you ever tried to describe someone you’ve seen only seconds at night (after a lot of drinks) and who you had at that moment no special reason for remembering?
•••••
I have to disagree with this. If he was seen from the front, or from the side, you could certainly give it a try to put together some sort of face. The fact that it is completely blank tells me that Tanner refused to make any comment at all on the face, which to me is someone who is not really trying to help at all.
November 12th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
546 Ian, do you mean you read somewhere that they destroyed BG’s body? Must say I haven’t read that one?
November 12th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
547 Indeed, its absolutely and incredibly ludicrous (using the Clarrie/McCann book of time filling words (used as ‘padding’ whilst desperately thinking up answers to difficult-to-answer questions)

Tony B and Andrew - you’ve been blogged! Congratulations!!!!
Gerry’s Friends Reunited Entry
Stolen/borrowed from Anorak news, originally posted by Tony Bennett, and reposted by an observer:
“Finished medicine and working as a cardiology registrar in Leicestersince Jan 2000 (hopefully temporarily). Had a brilliant year in New Zealand 1995/96. Married to Kate (Healy, for those docs in Glasgow) and very happy although no kids-yet!
Don\\\’t get to Glasgow that often but have bumped into a few old friends around the southside where my mum still lives. June 2003- Still in Leicester but now family of 3 after birth of Madeleine Beth on 12/05/03. Thankfully she takes after her mother although definitely has my lungs even without a dew drinks.
August 2004- Bones- glad i left after 5th year! Currently in Amsterdam learning some fancy heart scanning(MRI) but returning to UK in New Year when hopefully will become family of 5. Looking for a consultant job and shortlist is Glasgow, Liverpool, Leicester in fact pretty much anywhere north of Birmingham
April 2005- Back in Leicester and looking for a job. Now father of three with Sean and Amelie joing Maddie.
May 2007 Thanks to everyone for support and good wishes, it really does help”
According the Anorak news poster Andrew, it appears that shortly after Madeleine disappeared the entry was edited to remove the phrase, “anyone want to babysit?”, but there is a transcript in existence that was saved by an American group who have been following the case.
It also interests me that Gerry refers to Madeleine as Maddie. I seem to recall that Kate McCann said that they never called her anything other than Madeleine. And that this was used to criticise the coverage by some commentators, because in there opinion it was disrespectful.
It is curious that he choose to remove the babysitting reference but not the comment about his drinking.
peace:)

My letter to my MP is in the post. It’s a pity that so few people have the courage of their convictions. I am ashamed to be British and very angry that all the millions who believe there to be a miscarriage of justice unfolding before their eyes are unwilling to put their name and address on such a letter. No justice for Madeleine if it is left to such cowards.
November 12th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
530 - but there doesnt always have to be a lot of blood to kill someone.
November 12th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
544 Ian … and so is the absence of the “blanket” (ludicrous)
November 12th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
542 Julie there are, but life is full of seemingly incredible coincidences isnt it? Did I read somewhere they had destroyed the body? If they have, why???
November 12th, 2007 at 6:07 pm
530 But his conviction was thrown out and there’s a new trial. Not very comforting after all.
One day last year, Fang got into a fight with Moon and Fang’s ear was ripped open, blood everywhere, dried blood is nearly impossible to get off walls, little bits of splatter soak in and dries almost instantly….and Fang had flung it everwhere…..
Pitty drove Fang to the vet and he shooks his towel off his head and blood splattered the windshield and the dashboard - looked like a murder had happened…..today, there’s still drops of blood on the walls and in the car - very difficult to remove….
Pitty says that people think they can clean up the crime scene….but in reality….it’s not an easy deal!
November 12th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
540 Totje - well Im sure there would have been a little more detail and a little less changes if I had seen this person. Certainly the cartoon character with the clearly discernable Maddie legs sticking out is, well, ludicrous.
November 12th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
Bizzy, I was wondering the same thing this morning. I haven’t heard anything but hopefully posters from Portugal have info.
November 12th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
531 Ian … lot of “coincidences” though aren’t there?
November 12th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
535 Matt yes I agree.

I won’t go into each argument you gave, I agree the whole case raises questions. Nevertheless we don’t KNOW what happened. We can only speculate. And we don’t KNOW if she died, in Portugal, in that appartment. We suspect. What’s neccessary is to find out how, why, when, who etc.
Laughable “descriptions” of a faceless kidnapper from Tanner
Comment: you’re right, one the other hand, have you ever tried to describe someone you’ve seen only seconds at night (after a lot of drinks) and who you had at that moment no special reason for remembering? Have you ever seen/read descriptions of witnesses of a robber? The’re several very good training courses for e.g. bankemployees “how to” because they vary to much. I remember several years ago we had a sticker at the door at (if I remember well) 175 cm to help us. Don’t pay attention to the clothes, it’s to easy to change etc.
And please, let’s not pay attention to all things the tabloids write. They just want to sell! The police in Portugal made many mistakes in the beginning which a reader of any good detective book or someone who had watched some of Discovery’s documentaries about crimes would have avoided. That’s one of the reasons why solving this case takes so long (and I’m afraid it will take even longer). And I’m afraid the DNA evidence is not conclusive, otherwise there would have been an arrest already. Nevertheless I am sure this “new guy” investigating raises hopes for solving the case. Did anybody notice the “leaks” became less since he’s in charge?
So my conclusion : I don’t know what happened and don’t know who did what. So I’ll leave all options (including Murat) open, untill the polices cracks the case and/or someone is going to confess.

Yes, yes…that explains everything….it’s a language problem….the good old “translators” mucking it about wrong ….trying to talk with their mouths full of “crap”

Come on, lets be honest here. It’s the sardines, isn’t it?
November 12th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
The narrator continues, “33 hours later, Kate and Gerry boarded an Easy Jet plane without going through the checking procedures.”
******************************************
This was a commercial flight? Can someone tell me if his has been corroborated by any other reputable news source? And if it is likely true then how was this made possible? Ambassador Buck? If it was by his urging then the current British ambassador in Portugal should be deluged with emails and phone calls.
Is Skype phone service free to other European countries from the UK?
November 12th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
NOTE: Team McCann consistently ignores the DNA finding under the floor tile yet I suspect that is the finding that sent them fleeing out of Portugal.
•••••••
When questioned about it now, they say they don’t know anything about any blood being found.
Well, if they watched the documentary, they should have some questions about that, if they are concerned about M.
November 12th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
531…Ian
I have always thought it very unlikely
that BG might be Madeleine.
But, it is better to ask questions
than to assume the answers.
November 12th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
Does anyone know about that body in the cave in Portugal? Maybe I missed it but did the PJ ever manage to get it out and identify it?
November 12th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
Yes, yes…that explains everything….it’s a language problem….the good old “translators” mucking it about wrong ….trying to talk with their mouths full of “crap” and the emitting mumbles and eye rolling……wreak havoc with the “truth” as seen through the innocent speak no evil - see no wrong T9…and now the truth of May 3rd further evolves six months later…..and we get the latest version of that night……when memories are clear and the mind relaxes - and we know that no one would dare create facts that don’t exist…..
This is all so wonderful, yes wonderful…..unbelievable…..it is so hard to believe that which is hard to believe…..
