Madeleine McCann: A Bedroom, A bed And A Blanket
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “FIRST PIC OF SNATCH SCENE – INSIDE MADDY’S BEDROOM”
A picture of the holiday bedroom from where Madeleine McCann vanished. Useful. Perhaps seeing it will jog your memory…
The Mirror highlights three areas of the room:
DOOR: “LAST LOOK. Dad Gerry last saw his daughter form this door”
BED: “HER BED - “Rumpled covers and pillow on mattress”
WALLS: “UNTOUCHED – Room is as it was after police forensic team finished work”
We commend to your attention the shards of sardine roll, cigarette ash dropping and big footprints
The picture is an “EXCLUSIVE”
MADDY COPS WANTS McCANNS SILENCED” – A plan to do harm to Kate and Gerry McCann?
Almost as bad: “Portuguese police may gag Madeleine McCann’s parents by keeping them suspects for the next 15 years.” So too Robert Murat. This one has along way to run
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – THE HUNT SWITCHES TO BOSNIA AFTER NEW SIGHTING”
Page 9: “Tourist spotted Madeleine – I heard her yell: ‘I want my daddy’”
The Express hears news from Medugorje, Bosnia, the site of a Catholic shrine. As reported on Anorak, the man sees a girl who looks like Madeleine. He reports it to local police. Police shrug. He tells the McCanns’ private detective firm. They check the expense account. They respond
The “father of six”, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, who asked not to be named, says: “From the minute I saw them, there seemed to be something odd going on. They both had a very swarthy complexion and the toddler with them was a blonde, fair child.” Dark, you say?
“She was wearing a little pink coat and was very agitated and sobbing. The instant I saw her my heart skipped a beat because it struck me that she looked like Madeleine McCann. I felt sure there was something wrong and started to move towards them. As they saw me coming, they started walking faster away from me. I was sure the child they had was not theirs. I got right up beside them, and was about to speak to the child when the man put his hand over her mouth and shoved her into the car. He was pushing her into the back seat and was yelling in a language I didn’t understand.”
“First look at bedroom” – Unless you have already seen the Mirror that is
“New nightmare as McCanns could be suspects for 15 years” – Says Francisco Pagarete, Robert Murat’s lawyer: “The problem is that in Portugal a suspect can remain an arguido for 15 years without any need for police to reapply or extend the status”
No problem for the press
THE SUN page 11: “MADDIE;S BEDROOM.” This is the “FIRST PICTURE” of “Inside the McCann holiday flat”
For those readers unfamiliar with the contents of a “bedroom”, the Sun uses an arrow pointing towards a box-shaped presence and tells us: “Bed she was in before she went missing.” A second arrow points to a “Blanket”
Clarence Mitchell hears of the sighting in Bosnia. Says he:”We are not dismissing it. The witness was 99.9 per cent certain the child was not with her natural parents”
DAILY MAIL page 19: “First photo of Maddie flat as hunt switches to Bosnia”
“Its narrow beds have been stripped of their sheets so they can be analysed for evidence”
And in Bosnia, the “very swarthy” people are with Madeleine. Like the man in Belgian, perhaps…
DAILY STAR page 9: “BOMBSHELL BOOK POINTS FINGER AT MADDIE PARENTS”
Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia have written Maddie 129. the Star says the book claims some of the Tapas Seven “had already given up searching for Madeleine and were in their own flats 90 minutes after the alarm was raised because ‘they already knew where she was’”
An American artist has been employed by the Star to make Madeleine’s hair from blonde to dark. (Non-experts can use a felt tip or boot polish)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE DETECTIVES CHECK NEW SIGHTING AT BOSNIAN SHRINE”
Page 7: Says Clarence Mitchell: “But as with all these reports, the McCanns refuse to raise their hopes until it has been investigated fully”
NEW YORK TIMES: “European Tabloids Still Agog Months After Child Vanishes”
“Six months after Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal, no development in the case seems too small to merit a banner headline — even the news that her father had returned to his job as a doctor. Similarly, no story is too speculative”
THE GUARDIAN, THE INDEPENDENT and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news

Edit….

Good page, well balanced notes I think.
I’m not a fan of the Baby Grace link, for no good reason I might add, just seems too incredible! Given that it’s a possible line if enquiry I guess we should await the results of the DNA test before dismissing Baby Grace completely.
That said, that artists impression of Baby Grace gives me the creeps! Each time I see it I look it and think it could be her, and then dismiss it as ‘ludicrous’! As several have mentioned, lots of three and four olds can look eerily similar at quick glance.
Having said I’m not a fan, I am impressed at the evidence you’ve built up demonstrating how it may be feasible for a container to travel the distances required.
Also, whilst writing. I thought you had suggested that the box was sealed, thus preventing water ingress? Others have suggested the box wasn’t sealed. Do you know which it was?
Any ETA on the results of the DNA test?

If British doctors are any good, why do 70,000 of their patients fly abroad for medical care every year? And this figure is expected to climb to 200,000 within the next few years.

Andy,
I think you should send a copy of that letter to CBS news’ programme 48 Hours because they are airing a programme on MM this coming Sunday. I would also email the letter to respected Portuguese journalists and to any bloggers who are reporting this case fairly. Just my opinion.

Anyway, I find strange that they have buried BG so soon.
********************************
Pilimary, do you perhaps have a link to the report that says they’ve buried Baby Grace? I’ve been following her case quite closely, and I cannot recall seeing that they’ve already buried her, or that they’ve destroyed the body (as Ian said earlier). If this is the case, then I certainly smell a rat …. and a very stinky one at that …..
November 12th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Theo,
I know it was wrong that this man was shot. The man urinating was meant to looking out for the suspect leaving the flat, and so they lost contact. They still had a suspected bomber possibly going to kill and maim hundreds of people. It was a tragic accident, but these same police officers / special services have stopped quite a number of other planned attrocities.
I live near Heathrow Airport, and a couple of years ago we had a high police presents looking around the area and in gardens. There were security reports that someone was going to try and take a plane down with a SAM missile. I now for a fact that a SAM launcher was found by the army in a lock up garage and this information never made the press.
In other words, they f*cked up on this one, but overall they are responsible for saving hundreds of lives.

Thea
Im back home and i’ve just seen your post. I frankly think that sizes system is completely different between Europa and US, and even, in some cases, is differente between the UK and the rest of europe (as many other things)
Who knows… Anyway, I find strange that they have buried BG so soon. In Spain, when a body appears and nobody claims it, they keep it in a frozen metallic cofin,in the Instituto Anatomnico-Forense or an institution equivalent, for months. And Im not speaking about homicides, but common cases of unknown bodies. Imagine when they find a broken skul…

lol, Piers wrote: In any event I think you can rest assured that the British police and intelligence services have long had a better grip on the facts of this case than the Portuguese police.
***************************
Yes! That is probably true and an integral part of the problem at hand! British police and intelligence services DO KNOW more and in having more knowledge about the truth of what happened to M have been thwarting and obstructing justice. Now we FINALLY know the source of the many leaks in England.
What a disgrace.

Piers Merchant was my local MP.
He resigned in disgrace over a sex scandal involving a teenage prostitute (who he initially tried to pass of as a constituency worker) and a local park. When he realised the game was up, he organised a photo shoot on his doorstep where he treated the world to some stomach-churning footage of him snogging his loyal/stupid/desperate (delete as applicable) wife with tongues and everything. GROSS.
All that went off over 10 years ago and I haven’t heard of him since, although people in the area still make the occasional snide reference to him.
Sliiiiiiiiiime…..

Will, great post. I agree with it all. Though I wouldn’t mind a little go on a quad bike!!
November 12th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
Inspector G, I don’t believe there will be a trial. I think this story has already been written. After reading that letter from Piers Orwellian - Groupthink, I don’t feel any criminal charges will be brought against the McCanns or Tapas Junta. The only way, the only way there would be a trial is if Socrates is taking orders from a high ranking UK official (NOT BROWN imo) and they’ve concocted the “perfect scapegoat” to take the fall. A human sacrrifice to appease the plebians. With the patricians in starring roles acting outraged and shocked whilst fingering the framed up scapegoat.
The McCanns will go on to have successful careers in media/politics/social orgs connected to missing children

I hope that Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police
Blair’s overhaul of Police Strategy which relates
to “Surveillance of Suspects” …reccommends that
all Officers so employed be catheterised upon
commencement of such duties.

Just got back in and saw your post. I didn’t say it, honest
Just to clarify something - I don’t hate or dislike anyone because of any organisation they may belong to - whilst a member of a political party for many years I had close friends in other political parties. There are things in life though I admit I just don’t get. Some of those things are; bear baiting, sailing (or anything else that involves cold water), morris dancing, quad biking, choral societies, snow boarding and freemasonary. This is not an inclussive list there are so many things I just don’t get. It doesn’t mean I dislike the people that partake in these activities. On the other hand I do dislike people who partake in racism, homophobia, sexism. Some things I don’t get and some things I dislike. I am very opinionated and I guess that makes me open to attack, and that’s cool (quite like it really) just don’t want to upset people that I don’t want to upset.
Right enough seriousness for one night (knew I shouldn’t have taken so many blows to the head tonight)
November 12th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
631. Why does it bother him then if he checked so much - it bothered him the thought that he might have burned a child?
November 12th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Steve, I would assume that’s why you are not in a elite police unit. And are instead a designer.
I’m sorry but I think it was a racist act and completely shoddy police work. These weren’t ‘country bumpkin’ cops either. specially trained? Specially trained in what?
Swarthy skin = criminal????
yeah we have that training here in the US too.

Here’s another article about the incinerator man that says he checked before doing the job.
SNIP>
Following complaints about the smell from neighbours he said he had closed down the furnaces in March of this year but added that he continued to carry out incinerations at a site in Lisbon.
As well as domestic pets - usually dogs - he said that he also picked up dead animals from the road for cremation.
Today he claimed that police had visited him numerous times before but that this was the first time he had ever been asked about the McCann case.
“Police have been here 20 or 30 times but not for the McCann case, they asked about the furnace.”
Hoos claimed that police had asked him today about the recent visit of a Polish couple who had brought a large bag asking for it to be incinerated.
He said detectives asked him it if was possible that there had in fact been a baby in the bag which was sent to Lisbon for cremation.
But he claims that he checked and it was a Labrador.

Thea, about the blood splatter in the Calvin Harris case, the surprise witness did them in, what do you think the chances are that a surprise witness will appear here with MM and they won’t need Tanner?
Blood splatter is very difficult to remove….

Under Portuguese law is there such a thing as turning “state witness” (that’s what it’s called in my country anyway).

Steve T, I know the American government’s actions are disgusting. Anyone who reads my posts should see this clearly.
And when you say “doctors” do you mean police? I never said anything about doctors.
Look, in my opinion - if that is your elite police then they are in need of much better training.
They lied about what he was wearing and I mean it was obvious they messed up and acted, with all due respect, like American gun crazy cops.
Their supervisor (female with odd name) asked repeatedly if they were certain they had the right man. One of the elite officers leaves to take a piss and communication/translation of information ALLEGEDLY was garbled because of this weak bladder copper.
I can’t go to the toilet when I’m watching the Godfather. Even though I know Sonny gets shot to pieces at toll booth - I can’t. And you mean to tell me that a well trained cop can’t control his bladder when he’s in the middle of serious operation? If he believed he was going to be blown up then why in heaven’s name would he waste precious time urinating in a public bathroom with a mad bomber yards away?
