Madeleine McCann: A Bedroom, A bed And A Blanket
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “FIRST PIC OF SNATCH SCENE – INSIDE MADDY’S BEDROOM”
A picture of the holiday bedroom from where Madeleine McCann vanished. Useful. Perhaps seeing it will jog your memory…
The Mirror highlights three areas of the room:
DOOR: “LAST LOOK. Dad Gerry last saw his daughter form this door”
BED: “HER BED - “Rumpled covers and pillow on mattress”
WALLS: “UNTOUCHED – Room is as it was after police forensic team finished work”
We commend to your attention the shards of sardine roll, cigarette ash dropping and big footprints
The picture is an “EXCLUSIVE”
MADDY COPS WANTS McCANNS SILENCED” – A plan to do harm to Kate and Gerry McCann?
Almost as bad: “Portuguese police may gag Madeleine McCann’s parents by keeping them suspects for the next 15 years.” So too Robert Murat. This one has along way to run
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – THE HUNT SWITCHES TO BOSNIA AFTER NEW SIGHTING”
Page 9: “Tourist spotted Madeleine – I heard her yell: ‘I want my daddy’”
The Express hears news from Medugorje, Bosnia, the site of a Catholic shrine. As reported on Anorak, the man sees a girl who looks like Madeleine. He reports it to local police. Police shrug. He tells the McCanns’ private detective firm. They check the expense account. They respond
The “father of six”, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, who asked not to be named, says: “From the minute I saw them, there seemed to be something odd going on. They both had a very swarthy complexion and the toddler with them was a blonde, fair child.” Dark, you say?
“She was wearing a little pink coat and was very agitated and sobbing. The instant I saw her my heart skipped a beat because it struck me that she looked like Madeleine McCann. I felt sure there was something wrong and started to move towards them. As they saw me coming, they started walking faster away from me. I was sure the child they had was not theirs. I got right up beside them, and was about to speak to the child when the man put his hand over her mouth and shoved her into the car. He was pushing her into the back seat and was yelling in a language I didn’t understand.”
“First look at bedroom” – Unless you have already seen the Mirror that is
“New nightmare as McCanns could be suspects for 15 years” – Says Francisco Pagarete, Robert Murat’s lawyer: “The problem is that in Portugal a suspect can remain an arguido for 15 years without any need for police to reapply or extend the status”
No problem for the press
THE SUN page 11: “MADDIE;S BEDROOM.” This is the “FIRST PICTURE” of “Inside the McCann holiday flat”
For those readers unfamiliar with the contents of a “bedroom”, the Sun uses an arrow pointing towards a box-shaped presence and tells us: “Bed she was in before she went missing.” A second arrow points to a “Blanket”
Clarence Mitchell hears of the sighting in Bosnia. Says he:”We are not dismissing it. The witness was 99.9 per cent certain the child was not with her natural parents”
DAILY MAIL page 19: “First photo of Maddie flat as hunt switches to Bosnia”
“Its narrow beds have been stripped of their sheets so they can be analysed for evidence”
And in Bosnia, the “very swarthy” people are with Madeleine. Like the man in Belgian, perhaps…
DAILY STAR page 9: “BOMBSHELL BOOK POINTS FINGER AT MADDIE PARENTS”
Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia have written Maddie 129. the Star says the book claims some of the Tapas Seven “had already given up searching for Madeleine and were in their own flats 90 minutes after the alarm was raised because ‘they already knew where she was’”
An American artist has been employed by the Star to make Madeleine’s hair from blonde to dark. (Non-experts can use a felt tip or boot polish)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE DETECTIVES CHECK NEW SIGHTING AT BOSNIAN SHRINE”
Page 7: Says Clarence Mitchell: “But as with all these reports, the McCanns refuse to raise their hopes until it has been investigated fully”
NEW YORK TIMES: “European Tabloids Still Agog Months After Child Vanishes”
“Six months after Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal, no development in the case seems too small to merit a banner headline — even the news that her father had returned to his job as a doctor. Similarly, no story is too speculative”
THE GUARDIAN, THE INDEPENDENT and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news

“Ferdinand, I have no idea what you mean by a “continental” law system? Although I am on a different continen, I have learned in my travels and from reading that the criminal mind is pretty much the same. Regardless of a Scottish or Belgian accent or Roman Catholic or Jew or affluent or working class.”
There is a traditional difference in perception of justice between the anglo-saxon countries and most of the European countries.
In the anglo-saxon countries, a trial is kind of a competition between the prosecution and the lawyers of the defendant. It is like in a sport competition, the aim is to persuade the jury.
In the continental aproach, the truth cannot be the outcome of a competition. Instead, the truth is thought to be not negotiable, it simply has to be found out by the judges (which is of course an idealization, but as such it stands).
For example, it would be impossible to wait 4 years to bring in charges, and then - without new evidence - suddenly decide to try the competition - as is seemed to be in the case you cited. If you have evidence for a crime, then it is time for charges. If there is not enough evidence, then the case has to be filed, but then charges cannot be made without new evidence.
Another example are the reasons given by the jury members. One said that she was convinced because the defendant was not interested in the search of his to-be-ex wife. If the judges in a continental court would name this a major reason for a conviction, it would automatically be overruled in a court of appeal, because it is not hard evidence, not even circumstantial evidence, it’s just reading tea leaves. But in UK/US, a jury member is free to base her verdict on any reason she likes.

“British police and intelligence services have long had a better grip on the facts of this case than the Portuguese police.”
Now that is interesting. Many weeks ago I hypothesised that one reason the UK ‘establishment’ might be ‘assisting’ the McCanns more than usual was if they had some intelligence gained information that made such support warranted.

It’s a tragic cover-up and the blame is being dumped on the P. Police and that’s why Pitty is now chasing wolves….it’s worse than Watergate, or Monica Gate…..and any other Gate any politician tries to invent this is - Madeleine Gate……
We need to hold a funeral and mass for her….and wait for a body that will never be found! Tragic is almost too mild a word for it!

If he believed he was going to be blown up then why in heaven’s name would he waste precious time urinating in a public bathroom with a mad bomber yards away?
I think its got something to do with nerves!

667. I trust all designer’s implicitly. You might be right Steve T. But being swarthy skinned myself - you cannot blame me if I am a little leary of authorities and certain people from the charming British Isles. I am often asked if I am Persian or Turkish when I am in the UK. Yet I am never asked this in the US - and I think this hell hole is pretty racist.
I wonder if a black British person were made a suspect in the murder of a child if the UK government would be so heavily involved in protecting this person considering civil rights laws were not on the books in this heavenly democracy until 1968? And it has been proven that organised racist groups like the KKK were in US government.

Chenier….663 I guess you are on the RIGHT side of the blaze.
Must admit after narrowly missing getting caught up in one of the July 7 bombings I do tend to panic at the thought of ‘incidents’. Glad I had decided not to go to Docklands today via Stratford station!!
I well remember the fear of that day and then again two weeks later so can sympathise with the predicamnet of the police officers caught up in the De Menenes shooting the following day. Spur of the moment decision that can be easily criticised a couple of years after in the cold light of day!

Anyway, it’s not going to happen is it? After McBroon’s visit to Lisbon on October 18th everything here changed. The papers spewed out even more hatred of the PJ, the DNA didn’t arrive from Birmingham, The PJ didn’t receive the mobile phone records, the PJ didn’t send people to question the McCanns again, the Leicester Social Services didn’t remove the twins, the ‘friends’ didn’t crack, McCann returned to work at £1,000 a day (which we ‘Commentariat’ proles pay for - and get MRSA for our pains), the church at Rothley continues to display the shrine, and the villagers cringe—and everything in the garden’s rosy for the McCanns. So it’s not going to happen, is it? - justice I mean.

Diane. Maybe your computer is eating up posts? You missed a couple of postings. Sorry, don’t have time to backtrack for you.
So what did you think about the article which stated that Brits are seeking medical care abroad? I’ve seen several articles about this lately. It’s pretty big news.

Yes, you’re right.. Now I thik that I read that people was raising money to CELEBRATE A FUNERAL… not a burial. Same happens in Spain with unknown bodies. They are frozen for a year or so

I agree Thea, this is one crime that blood splatter or no blood splatter will go unpunished.
Pitty just spotted a mangy tired wolf running along a wooded area, it was wearing a collar, so she is off trying to save it, and all the little homeless wolves lost and hungry……best to everyone….Pitty is on another mission!

‘Julie, there were rumours that a British couple had brought the body of a “dog” wrapped in cloth to a crematorium close to PdL. Owned by a Dutchman who said he incinerated the animal without unwrapping the corpse.”
Just a rumour, the reality is less prosaic.
“Hoos claimed that police had asked him today about the recent visit of a Polish couple who had brought a large bag asking for it to be incinerated.
He said detectives asked him it if was possible that there had in fact been a baby in the bag which was sent to Lisbon for cremation.
But he claims that he checked and it was a Labrador.”

Pilimary, To my knowledge she has not been buried. People have donated money for a proper funeral. I believe in the US, Jane and John Does (unknown deceased) are kept for a year at the morgue (frozen of course). After 1 year of trying t o ID them they are buried in a pauper’s grave. But, the saddest thing about life in the US, an allegedly “blessed” country - is that infanticide and the murdering of young people is extremely high. There are so many young non-id’d Does that many cities and civic minded towns have groups who adopt these poor Jane and John does and hold proper funerals f or them when their bodies go unclaimed. My mother’ss boyfriend works with forensics artists and has told me some heartbreaking stories.

Guardian says:
‘Asbestos has been found at the site of a huge blaze in east London today, the fire brigade said.
A plume of black smoke rising over Stratford could be seen for miles around, as firefighters battled to control the blaze, which broke out just after midday on the 2012 Olympics site.’
Glad to say the sky here in the City remained blue until sundown:-)

Once again I am posting my partial transcript of the Portuguese Documentary of “Madeleine McCann, Anatomy of a Mystery,” for the newcomers who don’t have video access:
“On August the first, the police returned to the apartment from which Madeleine disappeared. The two British dogs reacted simultaneously to a floor tile - under the living room sofa - where the McCann’s spent their holidays. Then for the first time, the police removed the tiles and forensic experts have collected a small sample of what seemed to be blood - something that had drained down through the edge of the tile. The findings were sent to the Birmingham laboratory. A month later the Birmingham laboratory sent the first results of the forensics tests. In 24 hours, Kate and Gerry were summonsed by the police. ” (Then follows Philomena who states that the police offered Kate a deal to confess to an accident.. That is followed by the first spokesperson who says “…ludicrous suggestion that blood was found in the hire car”…). The narrator continues, “33 hours later, Kate and Gerry boarded an Easy Jet plane without going through the checking procedures.”

I think a fair comment by Roger Knapmans assistant Piers. Unfortunately I know all you conspiracy theorists will disagree and the ardent few will froth at the mouth. lol
The PJ are a bunch of incapable pricks. And anyone who thinks for one minute they are a competant policing force are as naive as the McCanns were for leaving their tots alone in that apartment, and believing that Portugal is non corrupt and a crime free state. A laugh a minute! Next you’ll have us believe that baby grace is MM.

I don’t have much suspicion of secret societies because all men stand in a girl’s way if she wants to succeed in anything - it doesn’t matter if they’re in the Freemasons or the head of a department.
And that’s not prejudice? Lol.

what about this angle–now that the Tapas 9 (and the Drs. McCanns) are facing 15 years of purgatory, suddenly a lawyer appears (as if by magic) who announces that the “truth” is a “sad story” (which indicates the Tapas 9 are now going to go with the tragic accident scenario, since the possibility of being thought of as murderers for over a decade will be too costly to their careers).
They had hoped to create a perfect fake abduction scenario, but almost nobody believes them anymore, and the costs have become increasingly high for them all, every day.
If they finally admit to an “accident” and then “disappearing” the body in “a moment of panic,” there will be some revulsion, some scary chattering about consequences, etc., but kate will plead madness, and the world will go, “boo hoo hoo,” and in a year it will all be forgotten, and the Tapas 9 will then quietly resume their lives as wealthy doctors. The money collected will go towards helping “missing children everywhere.”
*********************
“Tragic accident scenario” ..accident caused by whom or what? If the child simply hit her head on the tiled floor, or fell down the steps while neglected in the apartment at night, then why would there have been a need for a cover-up? An accident is an accident. Yes, a bit of hysteria about leaving children alone in the apartment…but then ‘everyone does it’! If she was killed accidentally, or on purpose by one of her parents then, if it were KM, she could perhaps plead madness (she seems mad anyway), but Mr. McCann?? Could he plead madness, whether he had helped his wife to cover up the crime, or committed it himself?
If the “tragic accident” on the other hand was caused by some devious practice carried out by one or some of the friends, then I don’t think there’d just be some “scary chattering” and “revulsion” and afterwards all will be forgotten as I think that the ripples from the revelation of this deed would spread wide and far.
As for the money in the Fund. That will probably all disappear before long so there will be none to distribute to find other missing children. The act of setting up a fraudulent Fund, however, (if guilt is proved) is something else. I think this will create the greatest revulsion and the most savage reprisals, as money, in our degraded society, is now far more important than children’s lives.

Julie, I commented a while ago that it was strange that the police were collecting towards a funeral for BG almost immediately. I mean whoever she is, there must be family somewhere.
I personally don’t think its Madeleine because they would have checked DNA of all likely missing children immediately but I don’t understand the urgency to bury her. They will keep bodies on ice here for months.
Somehow very callous and disrespectful if she has been buried or is about to be.
November 12th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Julie, they are conducting DNA tests so in essence - yes the body does get “destroyed” in search of the truth.
When you asked about “destruction of the body” I thought you meant Madeleine.
If the Galveston authorities are lying about how they desparately wish to ID this child then they are better actors than the most seasoned politician.
I knew this would happen though. No matter what the outcome - there will be a fringe group who will never believe. Even though the authorities have made it clear, very early, that altthough they are testing to see if BG is a match with MM - they are very sure BG is NOT Madeleine.
Do you know how many blonde children go missing in the US daily? In the UK by the day? We hear nothing about them though do we?
