Madeleine McCann: A Bedroom, A bed And A Blanket
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “FIRST PIC OF SNATCH SCENE – INSIDE MADDY’S BEDROOM”
A picture of the holiday bedroom from where Madeleine McCann vanished. Useful. Perhaps seeing it will jog your memory…
The Mirror highlights three areas of the room:
DOOR: “LAST LOOK. Dad Gerry last saw his daughter form this door”
BED: “HER BED - “Rumpled covers and pillow on mattress”
WALLS: “UNTOUCHED – Room is as it was after police forensic team finished work”
We commend to your attention the shards of sardine roll, cigarette ash dropping and big footprints
The picture is an “EXCLUSIVE”
MADDY COPS WANTS McCANNS SILENCED” – A plan to do harm to Kate and Gerry McCann?
Almost as bad: “Portuguese police may gag Madeleine McCann’s parents by keeping them suspects for the next 15 years.” So too Robert Murat. This one has along way to run
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – THE HUNT SWITCHES TO BOSNIA AFTER NEW SIGHTING”
Page 9: “Tourist spotted Madeleine – I heard her yell: ‘I want my daddy’”
The Express hears news from Medugorje, Bosnia, the site of a Catholic shrine. As reported on Anorak, the man sees a girl who looks like Madeleine. He reports it to local police. Police shrug. He tells the McCanns’ private detective firm. They check the expense account. They respond
The “father of six”, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, who asked not to be named, says: “From the minute I saw them, there seemed to be something odd going on. They both had a very swarthy complexion and the toddler with them was a blonde, fair child.” Dark, you say?
“She was wearing a little pink coat and was very agitated and sobbing. The instant I saw her my heart skipped a beat because it struck me that she looked like Madeleine McCann. I felt sure there was something wrong and started to move towards them. As they saw me coming, they started walking faster away from me. I was sure the child they had was not theirs. I got right up beside them, and was about to speak to the child when the man put his hand over her mouth and shoved her into the car. He was pushing her into the back seat and was yelling in a language I didn’t understand.”
“First look at bedroom” – Unless you have already seen the Mirror that is
“New nightmare as McCanns could be suspects for 15 years” – Says Francisco Pagarete, Robert Murat’s lawyer: “The problem is that in Portugal a suspect can remain an arguido for 15 years without any need for police to reapply or extend the status”
No problem for the press
THE SUN page 11: “MADDIE;S BEDROOM.” This is the “FIRST PICTURE” of “Inside the McCann holiday flat”
For those readers unfamiliar with the contents of a “bedroom”, the Sun uses an arrow pointing towards a box-shaped presence and tells us: “Bed she was in before she went missing.” A second arrow points to a “Blanket”
Clarence Mitchell hears of the sighting in Bosnia. Says he:”We are not dismissing it. The witness was 99.9 per cent certain the child was not with her natural parents”
DAILY MAIL page 19: “First photo of Maddie flat as hunt switches to Bosnia”
“Its narrow beds have been stripped of their sheets so they can be analysed for evidence”
And in Bosnia, the “very swarthy” people are with Madeleine. Like the man in Belgian, perhaps…
DAILY STAR page 9: “BOMBSHELL BOOK POINTS FINGER AT MADDIE PARENTS”
Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia have written Maddie 129. the Star says the book claims some of the Tapas Seven “had already given up searching for Madeleine and were in their own flats 90 minutes after the alarm was raised because ‘they already knew where she was’”
An American artist has been employed by the Star to make Madeleine’s hair from blonde to dark. (Non-experts can use a felt tip or boot polish)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE DETECTIVES CHECK NEW SIGHTING AT BOSNIAN SHRINE”
Page 7: Says Clarence Mitchell: “But as with all these reports, the McCanns refuse to raise their hopes until it has been investigated fully”
NEW YORK TIMES: “European Tabloids Still Agog Months After Child Vanishes”
“Six months after Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal, no development in the case seems too small to merit a banner headline — even the news that her father had returned to his job as a doctor. Similarly, no story is too speculative”
THE GUARDIAN, THE INDEPENDENT and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news

The PJ have not threatened anyone with a gagging order. It’s just speculation as usual.

I dont get your point. IVF happens, cars exist. They could be the devils work? As the catholic church doesnt approve (as you say) then how come these people are such devout catholics and yet they messed about with IVF?
The answer is, of course, that they became suddenly devout on the night of the third of May. Since then they use the church (any church) for public displays of ‘feeling’.
I and many others realise that religion has a place in controlling ideas - that it is a framework for controlling society - there is no unseen deity as is desribed by human beings - nobody knows and the idea of a deity is in the heads of human beings. The McCanns are people of science, they will understand genetics, evolution etc - they know there is no deity in the way described by churches, which are man made institutions. But they choose to use the idea of religion (in my opinion).
******************************
Ian, I was born and raised catholic. My mother still goes to church every sunday (I don’t). Catholic church doesn’t approve people being gay. You’ll find that most catholics (at least the ones I know) don’t mind. And what I meant about that “car” is that I think that if there’s a God he wouldn’t have allowed us to invent IVF if he didn’t approve. And even my very (old and) devout mother doesn’t mind.
If someone is a catholic that doesn’t mean he/she has to adopt everything a very old man who is not living in “the real world” says. Especially not if you’re “people of science”.
And there many people who after a shock, death of a beloved person, whatever turn to the church for comfort. Although I’m not one of them, I can understand it.

Rosemary, apologies if it wasn’t clear, I wasn’t actually responding to your post, I was responding to Hideki.
I left your original post number in because Hideki had responded to yours in an ‘unhelpful’ manner. Other readers may want to backtrack through posts to see where the discussion started.
I concur with much of what you say in your original post, though I am not actually fan of further legislation in a general sense, we have far too much on our statute books already. To me it simply beggars belief that you should have to point out to a parent that it’s not good practice to leave young children unattended for any length of time. So, to counter my own argument, the fact that you DO appear to have to tell them probably means we need more bloody legislation!

im going now, i hope that u understand totje that i use the name grievingmum as i am so consumed by grief that it best describes me, however i would like to add i hope you never suffer the deverstation of losing even one of your kid let alone a double tragedy seperated by a few months, as someone who has lost a parent and an ex boyfriend and i can only say that those losses were drops in the ocean compared to what ive been through and the only way u’ll ever understand that is to go through it your self. if maddie is proved dead then k and g will understand. i get the impression they already know she is and cant grieve which wld explain some of their behaviour

THE STORY OF PG
PG is a hospital consultant. About 7 years ago he was accused of downloading child porn off the internet. The police searched his house and found no porn, either in paper form or on his computers. But his credit card records allegedly showed that he had been purchasing the child porn on the net, so the cops charged him and it went to the Crown Court. PG’s defence was that someone had stolen his identity on the web. He was found not guilty. PG is now practising medicine successfully again, the whole business behind him.
Why has he been able to return to his career and normality? Because he CLEARED HIS NAME in the eyes of the media and the law.
Food for thought.

So, why are the police so interested in keeping the McCanns quiet– why this threat of an indefinite gag order?

810 - Patch- I really don’t think they are kidding. This is a big Madeleine phenomenon, I find– there’s so much information floating around out there, people latch on to tidbits that interest them (for whatever reason) regardless of the truth of that tidbit, and obsess over it for weeks. This is why we also think Gerry got a haircut and played tennis the day after Madeleine disappeared (because someone on Anorak said so!). There’s all kind of false information floating around as fact.

Innocent until proven guilty??

Answer YES! But sometimes there reasons to lock them up until the trial (murder/fear they’ll run away whatever). A judge decides. Besides, as far as I know most burglars or shoplifters aren’t locked up until the trial.

“and since the parents decided not to answer any questions and leave town”
I believe they answered at least 22 questions - give or take. They left town because the lease on their villa had run out and for the sake of the twins.
They said they were going to leave BEFORE they were questioned or were made suspects.

“……….. the PJ are simply convenient targets for people like Piers Merchant”.
Oh come on. This case was spearheaded by Amaral. He’s gone. And why I wonder?
———————
Because he speculated too loudly about political interference from the UK…
—————————-
‘There are many ‘reported rumours’ as to why the PJ have failed.’
————————-
That statement is predicated on the assumption that the PJ have failed. I appreciate that you need to slide over that point as if it were equivalent to announcing that the sun rises in the morning, since otherwise you have no argument, but you are a little optimistic in imagining that I wouldn’t notice. Of course, if you would care to provide me with your definition of failed, together with your evidence to support it, I are more than happy to comment.
———————————–
‘How on earth could they possibly do a ‘U’ turn now? Amaral started this witch hunt.’
———————————-
That is yet another an unsupported claim. If you wish to assert that there has been a witch hunt then some evidence would be nice.
——————————————–
‘He was an ‘arguido’ himself on another case of a missing child . He was found out by the media.’
—————————————–
Being an arguido is a matter of public record. Asserting that he was ‘found out by the media’ is akin to announcing that the media ‘found out’ that the sun rises in the morning.

‘So what did the head of the PJ do? They got rid of him…… conveniently’

800 Totje.
Not so. People are arrested and incarcerated without a judge (in the UK). Having said that, you are saying that if a judge comes along and overturns that, its ok?! Anyway, its not. People are incarcerated on suspicion to protect the public from someone who is suspect as they will not have been proven innocent or guilty. The meaning of innocent until proven guilty simply means that the defence doesnt have the burden of proof (though even this isnt always the case).
The police have powers of arrest. Innocent until proven guilty is much misunderstood by the general public, especially in relation to this case. It is to put the burden of proof on the prosecution before people can be punished formally by the law. In the eyes of the law, people are innocent until proven guilty. I think we all know only too well that there is no universal power telling us that people who are accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty.

Amoral did not start a witch hunt that is UK’s media spin on it - he started the investigation into the hunt for Madeleine and what may have happened to her- and since the parents decided not to answer any questions and leave town then of course they are now blaming uncle tom cobbler and all- and making out it’s a witch hunt- they are living in virtual reality game console or some fairy tale as they think someones going to rescue the princess from the tower. If the parents cannot show some realty in this how can the rest of the world?

I think the elastic band is a longshot. If there were some hairs entangled in it, some with roots and therefore DNA, it might be possible to pursue it, but women/ girls lose those things en-masse.

342,
Peter O,
I have only just seen your post.
You have completely misrepresented my views.
I want the practice of leaving children alone in hotel rooms, even when in a resort complex, to be made illegal and for a babysitter to be required for young children.
I am not suggesting that the McCanns should be prosecuted for child neglect. I think whatever tragedy occurred, it could probably have been avoided by hiring a babysitter. However, fatal accidents happen even with the parents present.
I have never said that the McCanns do not deserve sympathy for what happened to Madeleine, but because of various remarks they have made, including the one about being over their guilt, as well as the whole money-making charade, I find it really hard to have feelings for them. I hope that whatever their daughter suffered it was over quickly.
I have a pretty good idea of the sort of horrors visited on children, having attended many court cases involving small children who have suffered at the hands of their parents. I will not go into details.
