Madeleine McCann: A Bedroom, A bed And A Blanket
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY MIRROR front page: “FIRST PIC OF SNATCH SCENE – INSIDE MADDY’S BEDROOM”
A picture of the holiday bedroom from where Madeleine McCann vanished. Useful. Perhaps seeing it will jog your memory…
The Mirror highlights three areas of the room:
DOOR: “LAST LOOK. Dad Gerry last saw his daughter form this door”
BED: “HER BED - “Rumpled covers and pillow on mattress”
WALLS: “UNTOUCHED – Room is as it was after police forensic team finished work”
We commend to your attention the shards of sardine roll, cigarette ash dropping and big footprints
The picture is an “EXCLUSIVE”
MADDY COPS WANTS McCANNS SILENCED” – A plan to do harm to Kate and Gerry McCann?
Almost as bad: “Portuguese police may gag Madeleine McCann’s parents by keeping them suspects for the next 15 years.” So too Robert Murat. This one has along way to run
DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – THE HUNT SWITCHES TO BOSNIA AFTER NEW SIGHTING”
Page 9: “Tourist spotted Madeleine – I heard her yell: ‘I want my daddy’”
The Express hears news from Medugorje, Bosnia, the site of a Catholic shrine. As reported on Anorak, the man sees a girl who looks like Madeleine. He reports it to local police. Police shrug. He tells the McCanns’ private detective firm. They check the expense account. They respond
The “father of six”, from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, who asked not to be named, says: “From the minute I saw them, there seemed to be something odd going on. They both had a very swarthy complexion and the toddler with them was a blonde, fair child.” Dark, you say?
“She was wearing a little pink coat and was very agitated and sobbing. The instant I saw her my heart skipped a beat because it struck me that she looked like Madeleine McCann. I felt sure there was something wrong and started to move towards them. As they saw me coming, they started walking faster away from me. I was sure the child they had was not theirs. I got right up beside them, and was about to speak to the child when the man put his hand over her mouth and shoved her into the car. He was pushing her into the back seat and was yelling in a language I didn’t understand.”
“First look at bedroom” – Unless you have already seen the Mirror that is
“New nightmare as McCanns could be suspects for 15 years” – Says Francisco Pagarete, Robert Murat’s lawyer: “The problem is that in Portugal a suspect can remain an arguido for 15 years without any need for police to reapply or extend the status”
No problem for the press
THE SUN page 11: “MADDIE;S BEDROOM.” This is the “FIRST PICTURE” of “Inside the McCann holiday flat”
For those readers unfamiliar with the contents of a “bedroom”, the Sun uses an arrow pointing towards a box-shaped presence and tells us: “Bed she was in before she went missing.” A second arrow points to a “Blanket”
Clarence Mitchell hears of the sighting in Bosnia. Says he:”We are not dismissing it. The witness was 99.9 per cent certain the child was not with her natural parents”
DAILY MAIL page 19: “First photo of Maddie flat as hunt switches to Bosnia”
“Its narrow beds have been stripped of their sheets so they can be analysed for evidence”
And in Bosnia, the “very swarthy” people are with Madeleine. Like the man in Belgian, perhaps…
DAILY STAR page 9: “BOMBSHELL BOOK POINTS FINGER AT MADDIE PARENTS”
Hernani Carvalho and Luis Maia have written Maddie 129. the Star says the book claims some of the Tapas Seven “had already given up searching for Madeleine and were in their own flats 90 minutes after the alarm was raised because ‘they already knew where she was’”
An American artist has been employed by the Star to make Madeleine’s hair from blonde to dark. (Non-experts can use a felt tip or boot polish)
DAILY TELEGRAPH front page: “MADELEINE DETECTIVES CHECK NEW SIGHTING AT BOSNIAN SHRINE”
Page 7: Says Clarence Mitchell: “But as with all these reports, the McCanns refuse to raise their hopes until it has been investigated fully”
NEW YORK TIMES: “European Tabloids Still Agog Months After Child Vanishes”
“Six months after Madeleine McCann, then 3 years old, disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal, no development in the case seems too small to merit a banner headline — even the news that her father had returned to his job as a doctor. Similarly, no story is too speculative”
THE GUARDIAN, THE INDEPENDENT and THE TIMES: No Madeleine news

You did a great job on the site Stevo. Hadn’t seen that much detail all together like that about the shoe, timelines, photo manipulation.
How do you feel that the McCanns themselves are probably checking it out? I think you’ll hear something from their camp by and by.

Have you noticed the abcense of Alexis etc.? I hope they have all been moderated forever…

Hello,
just a comment after reading tonight’s posts…
There’s a remote possibility that the BG investigation may also be distracted or conducted by money, should that be necessary.
Thinking hard about Madeleine’s case… Maybe there was an accident and Maddie died when the toddlers were left alone in the apartment. Can’t say if this could answer all questions like why the need of cover up etc. This has been speculated a lot before, and I’m perhaps most inclined to believe that something happened that the adults couldn’t prevent and didn’t want to admit. NO. I don’t know… Must go to sleep now.

Stevo,
While you are here? Could you please answer my question (I don’t want to repeat it in case someone interferes who you don’t want to)? Maybe I was mistaken?
Anyway, all my support to you. Mccanns can “allegedly” take all the government on board, but people like you will help the truth to come out .

This is a truly laughable comment Clarrie:
Mr Mitchell said: “All of Kate and Gerry’s friends speak as one, they have one lawyer and he has certainly not put out any statements on their behalf.
One lawyer for the entire ensemble? Yeah right.
The lawyers are probably lined up 4 deep around the Tapas just looking for a chance to get their names in the paper. But no doubt in my mind at all that O’Brian is looking to exonerate himself.
Just saying that they stopped to discuss the implications before calling the police that night are fairly damning. Your daughter is abducted–and yet you take almost an hour to report it? As has been stated many times, she could have been over the border in that amount of time.

My point exactly. The McCanns offer a comment to Rhys’ family but say nothing about this girl in the box. Why? The McCanns are a new form of conundrum - a hyper conundrum. Can you work them out? I can’t.

It’s not as harsh as I thought but IMO the last bit should not have been said.
He said: “It is a tragic waste of a young life and his parents have our sympathy.
“I hope they have time to grieve. It will take them a long time to come to terms with what has happened, and I hope the perpetrator is found.
“But I think the difference between them and us though is that we are still in the middle of this trauma whereas they will have some closure.”

Thanks and yes, I think too many websites are failing to put all the relevant info on the same page. Presentation is key a lot of times. I still find that image of Madeleine above the shoes found on Baby Grace to be an amazing match/coincidence. Why people are quick to dismiss it amazes me.

Does your name mean “tot je” - “the same” in Malinka’s language?
Does your name mean you have been posting here before under some different name?
Just out of interest…

On a credibility scale just recap on three “sightings”. 1) Bosnia, 2) Belgian guy with his daughter, and 3) Moroccan sighting of girl on mother’s back.
All three had “hoax” written all over them from day 1. The only people getting agitated about them was Team McCann.
Whether or not BG is Madeleine, I am outraged that they can’t be humane enough to even acknowledge this identical girl found in a plastic box. So what if it isn’t Madeleine? A McCann press release offering encouragement to the police in Galveston wouldn’t hurt would it?

I know of a “cop” called Richard Head.
But we never call him “Dickhead”.

Kids are sold to Bosnia, and they fetch a good price. Romania too. In those areas there is a huge child trafficing problem…why would they send her there though. No-one would take the chance and have Maddie in a public place.
I believe children in the region (more Romania) are sold to more western/northern European countries but for less than €20,000. I have seen a documentary this year but can’t remember the source, probably RTE though as it funds that type of thing. I don’t think kids are sold to these countries but by them, market forces, poverty etc.

Yes, I saw your post about the University there. Curiously there’s a University attended by many Astrazeneca people in Huelva too. Huelva looks like the equivalent to a place like Widnes or Immingham in the UK. Lots of chemical plants and associated industry and of course a big shipping port.
It makes me wonder why the McCanns bothered to go to Huelva at all. No disrespect to towns like Immingham but I think there’d be more mileage in going to more fashionable cities than a place like Huelva.
I just saw it was a post from Dr Watson yesterday who had included your name in the posting when asking me about being a pilot. Sorry about that.

Thanks Matt. It worked. Some things I agree to, others are a bit farfetched.
How about calling a cop a “dickhead” ? In my country that’s also a (minor) offence. And how unfair it seems to me that in my country if a cop declares something and you’ve got no witnesses who can support you saying otherwise, they believe the cop? On the other hand I once got a fine for driving without a safetybelt (I confessed I did), I went to court explained the circumstances to the judge and he said “guilty, no fine”. Loved that! Hated that terrible bureaucratic copper, trying to get his daily portion of tickets.
Cops are also human, they make mistakes, sometimes they’re discriminating, sometimes they patronise you (missie you can’t change that bulb). Nevertheless we don’t have to accept it. Fight it within the law.
And ofcourse (I think i misspelled that) the procecutor has to prove some is guilty of the crime. Otherwise we would be back in the dark ages of witchhunting. And if he can’t prove it sometimes it doesn’t mean the accused is innocent. Although maybe most are in that case (I hope for justice sake…)

I assume both papers received the reports from the same source as the quotes are identical so how the Express managed to come to the conclusion that a big hunt was botched from
“Mario Bosnjak, a regional police spokesman, said: “Every single policeman in Medjugorje has denied receiving any kind of a report regarding the missing British girl. We are ready to take an active role in the case if we received a proper report.” .”
makes my mind boggle!
How can the police in any country act if the sighting hasn’t even been reported?
November 12th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
849,
Stevo,
I remember someone asked you about piloting, but not me.
Did you notice how close the University which tests some Astrazeneca drugs is to the area where BG was found in Galveston? I think you’d left yesterday when I mentioned it. This story is full of co-incidences. I wonder how the drugs arrive there for testing.

I hadn’t heard that about Rhys but it’s another crass comment you associate with the UK press.
I have a link called “the press”. If you see any conflicting stories where papers backtracked let me know…I want to expose the bad reporting on that page.
