Anyone that leaves young children alone and then goes off to enjoy themselves should be seriously reprimanded. Even worse is the fact they left them alone in a foriegn country. Totally defies belief. If it was a single mum she would have by now be facing social services and even worse. I really feel for them if Madeleine has been kidnapped but something doesnt quote add up . I have a 3 and a half year old little boy and my world totally revolves around him. I certainly would never leave him alone so I could enjoy a meal with friends?!

Poor JonBennet and Madeleine, what did these poor children do to deserve such twisted parents? Jonbennet was routinely dolled up like a "prostitot" by her folks and paraded at pageants in front of god knows what kind of deviants and Maddie's parents have been shown to care more about their social life and friends than the welfare of their VERY young children...As for Jane Tanner and the rest of the people at Tapas the night Maddie vanished,I hope they remember that the children who were left alone will not stay little forever and will one day grow up to read and see all their orchestrated press and interviews...Sad.

I'm American, and we had the JonBenet Ramsey case here. At first, I am sad to say, the press and some very incompetent police officials made it seem like the parents were the killers, and I jumped to that conclusion, too. After I read the father's book, it was obvious to me that those parents had nothing to do with it. It's amazing how the police would rather solve a case than find the true killers. Think of the suffering of parents who lose a child in this way. . . . Now think of the suffering of parents who lose a child in this way, are innocent, and are accused every day of their lives of killing that precious child they would have given their own lives for! That much suffering is too much to think about.

It's very easy to second-guess the behavior of people as to whether they are acting innocent or guilty. We see what we want to see, I think. And parents as killers excite the blood more than some vague idea of a kidnapper. The public is no better than sharks on a blood-feeding frenzy. And, unfortunately, I basically took part in the frenzy in the case of JonBenet, at least early on. But never again. I think I'm going to have to have some pretty strong evidence, maybe video of the murder, before I will jump to the conclusion of parents as killers ever again.

This is a woman who went through an enormous amount of personal sacrifice to have these children, since they were all in vitro, I understand. The course of hormones wrecks your nerves and increases your risk for cancer. No one who suffered this much to have children would kill their child, I don't care what anyone says. These are decent people, just like JonBenet's parents. Support them--don't add to their suffering!

Remigius, 6.
Gerry was probably right to get a new freezer - the old one was leaking (all over the boot of his car).

Addendum to 6

also, why go on "Panorama?"

That's the show that Princess Diana chose.

If Tanner really wants to help, why not just talk again to the PJ?

Jane 1, Elizabeth 4

yes, the timing/room/restaurant is a glaring inconsistency, isn't it?!

And if Tanner really wants to help, why doesn't she just sit down with the Portuguese police voluntarily, and answer the 100-plus questions, under oath? Why not agree to take a polygraph, just to help out?

If you read the excerpts carefully, you see that Tanner herself seems to not really understand why she is coming forward NOW, so late in the game. She says "Maybe" when she gives her reasons. Well, "maybe" also means there's a possible "maybe not!"

I think it is just a distraction. On the Daily Express site, there's a whole thing going on about how Gerry McCann bought a new freezer for the last villa the McCanns stayed in, and took the old one to the dump. The McCanns were not yet named suspects, and so nobody then cared particularly about it. But the owner of the villa purportedly remarked that his original freezer was very new, and he was surprised to hear it had broken.

To be fair, her statements make it appear she thought this in hindsight; also, I believe she may have admitted she wasn't sure about the timing? Maybe that was just part of the article I read though.

1.
Yes - does anyone know how long Jane Tanner was absent from the tapas table all together? Was she absent during the time Madeleine is supposed to have been taken? She'd better be careful what she says. No wonder the police are suspicious.

Welcome back Anorak.

Trannyfattyacid has already identified a variety of the more obvious inconsistencies:

http://trannyfattyacid.blogspot.com/

According to the Daily Star today, "Jane Tanner, 37, and her partner Russell O’Brien, 36, fingered British expat Robert Murat during a face-to-face meeting in May". Blimey, forget the rumours about wife-swapping.
