Muslim Man Marries His Teenage Daughter
ON the BBC: “A Muslim who married his 15-year-old daughter and made her pregnant had to be rescued from angry villagers in the Indian state of West Bengal, police say.”
Afazuddin Ali, 36, has five children - three of them daughters.
A few months ago Ali married his eldest daughter, telling his wife Sakina that Allah had ordained him to do so.
Not convinced by his story, his angry neighbours in Kasiajhiora village nearly lynched him for what they said was a clear case of incest.
Marriage within the nuclear family is forbidden in Islam.
“He is a deeply religious man and will never lie in the name of Allah,” Sakina told a court in the northern district of Jalpaiguri.
“I agreed to his marriage with our eldest daughter when he invoked divine sanction,” she said.
But this story has failed to impress the other villagers.
“We didn’t know she was married so when we confronted his wife, she told us about the bizarre marriage six months ago,” Sheikh Ramzan, a village leader at Kasiajhiora, said.
“We wanted to smash his head, we were so angry.”

In response: Ayesha Says. I would firstly like to note my sheer disgust, turmoil and disbelief that this has happened to this poor girl and that fact that the mother endorsed this makes it far worse to comprehend. In the ” west” as you put it ayesha, we have dramatised storylines of this effect(post watershed-I will explain, to protect the morality of our children in the west) to publicise this issue and educate, not condone. By definition of educate, in case you do not understand as I imagine, due to your initial comment, is to point out this is spiritually,morally and ethically wrong!! Not to mention illegal!!! Personally I believe commitance of this henious should be punishable by death, not just incest but forced /jabr marriage to young girls as practised profusley by the east and many more areas around the globe. I do not wish to be drawn into a macevellian debate. However you state that we should think of all in the west that do this, which is the comment I find the strangest and to be honest rather haunting. I feel that, this may be my interpretation, but that you are sub-conciously condoning this behaviour by the stating that we should divert focus elsewhere and by coincidence: The West. The favoured blame post!! Thus appearing to myself that you are stating, forget about this issue as far as Islam is concerned because it is happening in the west also. If this is your thoughts, you are warped plain and simple. Maybe I am the product of true democracy by feeling that irrespectful of race, creed, religion and culture ; paedophilia and incest is wrong regardless of where and by whom the crime is perpetrated by. Infact the majority, I feel believe this in the west, just ask any of the beasts and monsters locked up in our prisons. Or better still, let’s check facts, how many perpetraters are in prisons in the east locked up for their revolting crimes. By perpetraters I do not mean the females young and old wrongly accused of zina-al-jabr but the actual paedophiles and incestual beasts that commit these crimes, I submise this is 0!! Because as you put it, the small margin of people like yourself are too busy demonising the west instead of fighting for your fellow sisters in the east .

Muhammad (PBUH) didnt make him divorce his wife, rather he did so out of his own will so get your facts right. And the fact that Muhammad married his adopted son’s ex-wife, it is acceptable in different traditions and customs to do different things and this in no way constitutes incest. Christians believe they drink the blood of Jesus in Christmas, which would sound wacko to others but no one complains so keep your hate mongering to yourself!

Either this person is sick and needs to be treated. And if he is in his right frame of mind, and claims that Allah Ta’aala has commanded him to do this then he has left the fold of Islam and there is no place in Islam for such beliefs.

i do not totally agree to the above comment regarding Muhammed ( s.a.w) making his adopted son divorce…… this is a sign of ignorance! if one really looks at the history, nabi ( s.a.w) actually discouraged hazrath Zaid (his adopted son) from divorcing his wife… but then too hazrat zaid still divorced her. thereafter nabi was instructed by allah to marry hazrath zaids ex wife, so that the law is established in islam for the ummat to follow that it is permissible to marry your adopted son’s ex wife. now/ today if some one does this then it will be permissible. but to draw it as an example of marrying your own daughter then this will never be accepted in islam or even morally.

I’m a muslim and was left with utter disblief when i read this article…Let me just clarify that this is not acceptable in islam at all. Ask the majority of muslims all over the world and all will disagree.
Allah clearly implies in the quraan that you CANNOT MARRY your mother, father, paternal grandfather, paternal grandmother, maternal grandfather, maternal grandmother, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers brothers and sisters and mothers brothers and sisters.
Please do not generalise and assume that all muslims would do this. This incident is probably one out of millions.
Also, replying to above statement 1 so called muslim man made a leap (which is wrong) and he will be punished by Allah….think about the hundreds of people in the west that sleep with daughters and sons, rape and abuse…why is this never mentioned in the news. Its almost become acceptable in society in the ‘west’ as its clearly shown in dramas and movies. Its almost like advertising it! ISLAM DOESNT DO THAT.
