Madeleine McCann: The Scenic 17, Dr Denny Says And DNA
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS page 21: “New DNA tests could unlock the mystery of lost Madeleine”
More DNA tests at the Forensic Science Service laboratory in Birmingham And this after the DNA tests proved inconclusive…
“Seventeen human cells could provide a major breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann mystery…The DNA samples are being examined by scientists in Britain and Portuguese detectives believe the evidence could unlock an investigation which is now in its eighth month”
The Tapas 7. The Tapas 9. The Scenic 17…
Guilhermino Encarnacao, head of the Policia Judiciaria in the Algarve, says: “We have asked the laboratory to carry out more tests and exhaust every possibility of obtaining conclusive results”
Says Forensic scientist Dr Ronald Denny (not working on the case): “A cell is negligible – you can just about see it under a microscope. It’s a sample someone would leave behind with the touch of a finger. But when placed with certain biochemicals a small amount of DNA grows to a size that can be analysed”
“GP Kate and heart consultant Gerry” are “both 39”
THE SUN page 15: “Only 17 cells of DNA in hol car”
“Cops looking for Madeleine McCann are banking on ‘a smidgen’ of DNA evidence. Scientists have found just 17 cells on samples taken from a hire car rented by Kate and Gerry McCann and their holiday flat”
Says independent forensic expert Dr Ronald Denny: “It is not a hopeless task. If they have 17 cells then they can carry it off very effectively in Birmingham, one of the leading labs in the world”
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Mission Impossible – Forensic evidence too poor to solve mystery of Madeleine, say police”
But Dr Denny is telling two papers otherwise…
A source tells Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas: “It is highly unlikely they will find a DNA connection…If everybody refuses to make statements, which is perfectly possible, we will be left with our hands tied. This is a case which could hang by a thread for years and we may never be able to prove what actually happened to that child”
But what about Dr Denny. Why don’t they ask Dr Denny?
Says Dr Denny: “A person, or their possessions, have to be present for the cells to come off”
DAILY MIRROR page 7: “Maddy: Smidgen of DNA will work?”
Dr Denny is on the case, or not. But the “independent British expert” does have an opinion which is able to share with all of us
DAILY STAR page 9: “MADDIE: IT’S ALL DOWN TO 17 CELLS”
Dr Denny is talking to Star readers…
“Top cop in blast at private eyes” – Former deputy chief constable of Manchester Police John Stalker says of Metodo 3: “I’m not impressed with these people at all. I’d be very surprised if they get anywhere”
This is the same Stalker who delivered “MY VERDICT” to Express reader back in October
“There’s a world of difference in following a paper chase and finding a flesh-and-blood child”
Or a newspaper chase…
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 11: “Madeleine tests are ‘mission impossible’”
Says a source in 24 Horas: “The samples reportedly include microscopic spots of blood from the Ocean Club apartment where Madeleine went missing and ‘bodily fluids’ and hair from the Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after their daughter’s disappearance. The samples are so small that, while it will not be impossible to find a DNA link between the car, apartment and Madeleine, it’s highly unlikely The tests being carried out are extremely complex”
But Dr Denny says…
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry’s friends have consistently said they are happy to be re-interviewed by police if necessary. Indeed, they are keen to help if it clears up any inconsistencies. They, like Gerry and Kate, have nothing to hide”
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: “No Madeleine news today

Tom Waits “Pasties And A G-string (at The Two O’clock Club) ”
Smelling like a brewery, looking like a tramp,
I ain’t got a quarter, got a postage stamp
Been five o’clock shadow boxing all around the town,
Talking with the old man, sleeping on the ground
Bazanti bootin al zootin al hoot and Al Cohn
Sharing this apartment with a telephone pole
And a fish-net stocking, spike-heel shoes,
Strip tease, prick tease, car keys blues
And the porno floor show, live nude girls,
Dreamy and creamy and brunette curls
Chesty Morgan and Watermelon Rose
Raise my rent and take off all your clothes
With trench coats, magazines, a bottle full of rum,
She’s so good, make a dead man come
Pasties and a G-string, beer and a shot
Portland through a shot glass and a Buffalo squeeze
Wrinkles and Cherry and Twinkie and Pinkie and Fifi live from Gay Paree
Fanfares, rim shots, back stage, who cares, all this hot burlesque for me
(scat)
etc…

Glasgow?
Didn’t somebody mention rumours about the mcCann’s (being cleared) circulating in Glasgow currently?

After reading Gerry’s forensic book, I think that the police have been fooling with the T9 for months while gathering evidence. For instance, I think the DNA evidence in the car may not even have been in the boot. It might have been on the backseat. The PJ may have said it was in the boot to get a response from the McCanns. When this all comes out in the open I think we’re all going to be blown away by the sheer number of lies and spin we were fed.

Thanks for that, wouldn’t credit it what gets thrown around in my area!

No doubt Gerry is into being on lots of boards and panels and committees - to keep him away from patients!

268 Hideki - maybe HMs government did get back to the zealous diplomat and told him not to pursue any further assistance of the McCanns. Maybe they sent him the message by courrier and it was lost somewhere along the way together with the CD ROMs.

There is a website which has all of Dr G P’s blog entries….but I don’t have the link.

This morning on BBC America it showed baby chimps have better memories than adult humans.
I think we all knew chimps were cleverer than Jane Tanner.

“I bet that car was an absolute gold mine of evidence and superb forensic skills are going to triumph at the end of the day.”
Indeed. Already there is the prospect of linking the barnyard towel to the car. Combined with cell phone location data, they probably know exactly where the car went.
BTW could it be that some trips were deliberate decoy diversions? Maybe they realized that if they made only one special trip it would be obvious. So possibly the most “obvious” trips (like to Huelva) were made to throw us all off?
December 4th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
268 - I agree with you about the warning. Thank heavens Ellis had the ability to digest facts and not just swallow the shit that everyone else has. I think diplomatically the PJ are going to breeze through all procedures. There will be no more blockages along the way. Personally I don’t think this is much of an apology more a necessity. A published apology would be a good thing.
But I don’t think it works that way.
How long will Clarence remain their spokesman?
Well when have we last heard from him? Quite a while now is it not?

Darn….you’re confusing me.
When has Clarence ever been “their” spokesman.
And I thought he was just a “Minder”…making sure they didn’t step out
of line…..and drop more important people into it.
(In HM’s Service of course.)

Only thing I read last week was they’re going to be staying with relatives. I guess that most likely means Liverpool or Glasgow.

Now you get it. This is a place for satire and ribbing the tabloids as well as a bit of sleuthing (we have some real sleuthers here you know!).
There really isn’t much point being here if all you do is reject anything which might not make the McCanns look wonderful or indeed if one takes the opposite view and will not accept things which DO make them look wonderful (though I confess I have yet to see anything of that nature).

Actually think its very important that docs can spell, have good grammer etc as in, for example

I think the Mcanns are spending some time with their twins, on a humane level, they must be so very scared that they won’t see them again. Even if they have done wrong, they still won’t want to be parted from their twins.
I know that, if they are convicted of the suspected crimes, they will inevitably go to prison and that has to be a tragedy for those twins.
If they get brought up by other people they will need so much help.
What a horrible situation.
But if the McCanns really did cause the death of their daughter and dispose of her body and all the other things then I can’t see any other outcome .

I’ve just been on the Find Madeleine website which I hadn’t seen for sometime (makes me feel nauseous). But couldn’t find any blog entry about 10 JUNE (when the El Mundo article says that Gerry and O’Brien maintained an incriminating telephone call).
Can someone access the old entries of Gerry’s blog?

I hope they did decide not to leave them alone with the Portuguese police. I don’t speak Portuguese. If I found myself in a similar situation, I would sincerely hope for help from my consulate or embassy. It must be a terrifying situation. You would want help with language, cultural differences, gaining an understanding of the legal system etc. etc. It would have been a disgrace if they HAD been left alone.
If there were no suspicions attaching to them now and we found out they HAD been left to cope alone at the beginning, we’d all be criticising the Govt for abandoning UK subjects in horrendous trouble abroad.
I’m not saying the McCanns did not have articulate and intelligent family and friends who helped them mobilise support from the start better than many people could hve done. Of course they did. Good luck to them (if they are innocent). I just don’t believe there is a high-level conspiracy to cover up any crime they may have committed.
If GB were shown to have been wrong, any embarrassment would be minimal compared to the other sources of his embarrassment at the moment! Would hardly register on the Richter scale!!

addedsugar Says:
“I assume that the British diplomat was writing this letter as an answer to the orders they were having at the British embassy: they had already been told to give all assistance to the mcCanns and not leave them alone with the Portuguese police (!!!). ”
In the full version I read this is explicit. The diplomat is saying are you really SURE you want to do this? Please get back to me if you still want to do this even though the police may possibly suspect the McCanns.
It is a VERY strong warning, especially asking them to reply IF they have not changed their minds.
This does not prove much more than that Britain had an astute ambassador who tried to stave off embarrassment. For the orders were NOT changed, and the McCanns WERE given all that special treatment — against the advice of the diplomat.
The leaking of the document is a sign that helping the McCanns is now seen to be a mistake. It is a form of apology to the Portuguese government as well.
Right now those involved are busy making sure they will not be blamed, and are distancing themselves from the McCanns as quickly as they can.
How long will Clarence remain their spokesman?

My guess, too. Crucial times to sharpen up the strategy. If not go missing all the same. But the Portuguese source today claims the mcCann’s can’t escape new interrogations.
December 4th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Over here in the USA there’s a similar case with a former cop accused of killing his wife who has disappeared. It’s the same as the Madeleine case in that it’s “corpus delecti”.
It’s interesting how the bulk of opinion here was that he “did it” and I can’t recall hearing anyone on this guy’s side. The media are camped outside his home and haven’t shifted. It’s even got to the point where Drew Peterson has complained about trespassing by the journalists.

I wonder why Sky weren’t invited along to give full coverage on the this trip.
Like as in the trip back from Portugal….from door to airport…into plane
…then inside plane…onto UK runway….etc.
