Madeleine McCann: The Scenic 17, Dr Denny Says And DNA
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS page 21: “New DNA tests could unlock the mystery of lost Madeleine”
More DNA tests at the Forensic Science Service laboratory in Birmingham And this after the DNA tests proved inconclusive…
“Seventeen human cells could provide a major breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann mystery…The DNA samples are being examined by scientists in Britain and Portuguese detectives believe the evidence could unlock an investigation which is now in its eighth month”
The Tapas 7. The Tapas 9. The Scenic 17…
Guilhermino Encarnacao, head of the Policia Judiciaria in the Algarve, says: “We have asked the laboratory to carry out more tests and exhaust every possibility of obtaining conclusive results”
Says Forensic scientist Dr Ronald Denny (not working on the case): “A cell is negligible – you can just about see it under a microscope. It’s a sample someone would leave behind with the touch of a finger. But when placed with certain biochemicals a small amount of DNA grows to a size that can be analysed”
“GP Kate and heart consultant Gerry” are “both 39”
THE SUN page 15: “Only 17 cells of DNA in hol car”
“Cops looking for Madeleine McCann are banking on ‘a smidgen’ of DNA evidence. Scientists have found just 17 cells on samples taken from a hire car rented by Kate and Gerry McCann and their holiday flat”
Says independent forensic expert Dr Ronald Denny: “It is not a hopeless task. If they have 17 cells then they can carry it off very effectively in Birmingham, one of the leading labs in the world”
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Mission Impossible – Forensic evidence too poor to solve mystery of Madeleine, say police”
But Dr Denny is telling two papers otherwise…
A source tells Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas: “It is highly unlikely they will find a DNA connection…If everybody refuses to make statements, which is perfectly possible, we will be left with our hands tied. This is a case which could hang by a thread for years and we may never be able to prove what actually happened to that child”
But what about Dr Denny. Why don’t they ask Dr Denny?
Says Dr Denny: “A person, or their possessions, have to be present for the cells to come off”
DAILY MIRROR page 7: “Maddy: Smidgen of DNA will work?”
Dr Denny is on the case, or not. But the “independent British expert” does have an opinion which is able to share with all of us
DAILY STAR page 9: “MADDIE: IT’S ALL DOWN TO 17 CELLS”
Dr Denny is talking to Star readers…
“Top cop in blast at private eyes” – Former deputy chief constable of Manchester Police John Stalker says of Metodo 3: “I’m not impressed with these people at all. I’d be very surprised if they get anywhere”
This is the same Stalker who delivered “MY VERDICT” to Express reader back in October
“There’s a world of difference in following a paper chase and finding a flesh-and-blood child”
Or a newspaper chase…
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 11: “Madeleine tests are ‘mission impossible’”
Says a source in 24 Horas: “The samples reportedly include microscopic spots of blood from the Ocean Club apartment where Madeleine went missing and ‘bodily fluids’ and hair from the Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after their daughter’s disappearance. The samples are so small that, while it will not be impossible to find a DNA link between the car, apartment and Madeleine, it’s highly unlikely The tests being carried out are extremely complex”
But Dr Denny says…
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry’s friends have consistently said they are happy to be re-interviewed by police if necessary. Indeed, they are keen to help if it clears up any inconsistencies. They, like Gerry and Kate, have nothing to hide”
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: “No Madeleine news today

Thanks for the link. I looked up the 10th of June (when supposedly - according to El Mundo Gerry made the phone call to O’Brien from the abandoned barn).
Below is what he wrote in the blog:
Does anyone know why travel to Morocco they’d need to drive North to Lisbon some 300 miles or more and did not use Faro airport? Both TAP and Royal Air Morocco operate scheduled flights between FARO (Algarve Airport) and CASABLANCA.
Was it because they did not take a scheduled flight but a private jet? In which case it would make even less sense to use the airport in Lisbon and not the one in Faro. I wonder if anyone was with them during that drive from the Algarve up to Lisbon…
Day 38- 10/06/2007 - Sunday
We attended mass this morning and the Bishop had sent a very nice message that he and everyone else was praying for Madeleine. He also said that our attitude in this time of adversity was an example for others. Contrary to some of the headlines in the Sunday papers the campaign to find Madeleine will not ease up. Kate’s and my role will be different after Morocco compared to the last 3 weeks. As I said earlier we will reflect on the investigation, what the campaign has achieved and where we will be best directed. We will be less evident in the media, at least for a few days, unless there is a breakthrough in the investigation. First of all we have Morocco. We drove up to Lisbon late this afternoon to catch a flight to Casablanca where embassy officials will meet us. We were surprised to learn that a 20 seat propeller plane was sent instead of the larger aircraft. Luckily Kate, Clarence and I got squeezed on although we were certainly rather apprehensive about flying on such an aircraft- it reminded us of some of the internal flights we took in New Zealand in the mid 90’s. The meeting in Rabat will follow a similar itinerary as to the European visits. We will meet with the ambassador and his staff, two children’s charities, the interior minister and possibly the chief of police. We will do two interviews for the main TV stations and the press conference will be last. I am sure we will be asked about the Marrakech siting which has been extensively reported in the press. I should be able to get some more details of this from ITV, who interviewed the witness, and hopefully the justice minister to find out what enquiries were made by the local police

Thanks!
BTW, as I go, people might be interested in the article currently on Sky about Stuart Lubbock being awarded compensation. TB was involved in that case as well, though his attempt to bring a prosecution failed.

Did Gerry write his June 10 blog from Morocco? He must have if he’s writing that they went there that day? Or did he write it all in retrospect when he got back to Portugal?

i agree about the comical one’s role from the outset
i also think it has all gone wrong now and he is not in control any more
gerrykins is getting in the way of the plan
also, the tapparatti are about to crack, i fear (and hope)
of course a simple explanation could be that murat was tapas 10, looking after the the needs of the older mother…

Evidently after having the private use of Lord whatever-his-name-is’ private jet, Gerry did not like a 20 seat piston powered plane:
“We were surprised to learn that a 20 seat propeller plane was sent instead of the larger aircraft.”
Gerry McCann: Your daughter was missing and people were helping but you have the audacity to complain about the mode of transportation. Is there any wonder why you’re not going to win Scot of the Year?

“I thought he [Clarence] was just a “Minder”…making sure they didn’t step out of line…..and drop more important people into it. ”
Well, “Minder” or “Spokesman” I think the role of Clarence may have been to set up the McCanns so that when they fall, they fall hard and fast. And, like you say, see that no one else gets hurt, having had time to get out of the way.
I do think Team McCann is correct and there are paedophiles involved in this case. Clarence’s job was to make us think they are in Morocco.

As you know, my friend, I, and I alone, will decide if I stay or if I go!!
I know very well I ought to do the sensible thing and go! (Did Stig say he was leaving, by the way? Not seen him around recently.)
And by the way, I most certainly DO accept things which are suspicious. That small window of opportunity for example.
But do you accept that the case against them is not proven and that there is a lot of unpleasant innuendo and a lot of unjustified smearing as well?

Glasgow is interesting because last week I had emails to my site from two rather unsavoury individuals in Glasgow who were vehemently and almost spitefully defending the McCanns. I found out one of them works with a McCann and he denied it so I emailed a photo of him with a McCann from his place of work. That soon shut him up.
There’s always been suspicions over whether Gerry posts in this site.
I can’t say for sure and perhaps Anorak can’t either but Real Stig used to make daily posts in here until Gerry went back to work.
December 4th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
260 What?
But I thought many Anorak posters believed they WANTED the child to die? That would be evidence of not being good human beings. It would say nothing at all about their medical knowledge and skills.
Some posters may still believe in the accident theory. Don’t doctors, even good ones, sometimes have accidents? Again, get rid of all docs who have have had accidents, a mistaken diagnosis, etc. etc. and there’d be NONE left!! Telling stories of “near misses” and even “misses” is typical doctor-speak. Ever been at a party with them??!!
It’s definitely a mistake to think doctors aren’t human. It’s a left over dream from childhood to think that.
If the child was abducted in their absence, again, that might say something about their idea of perental responsibility; it would say nothing about their medical professional competence.
