Madeleine McCann: The Scenic 17, Dr Denny Says And DNA
MADDY WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann
DAILY EXPRESS page 21: “New DNA tests could unlock the mystery of lost Madeleine”
More DNA tests at the Forensic Science Service laboratory in Birmingham And this after the DNA tests proved inconclusive…
“Seventeen human cells could provide a major breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann mystery…The DNA samples are being examined by scientists in Britain and Portuguese detectives believe the evidence could unlock an investigation which is now in its eighth month”
The Tapas 7. The Tapas 9. The Scenic 17…
Guilhermino Encarnacao, head of the Policia Judiciaria in the Algarve, says: “We have asked the laboratory to carry out more tests and exhaust every possibility of obtaining conclusive results”
Says Forensic scientist Dr Ronald Denny (not working on the case): “A cell is negligible – you can just about see it under a microscope. It’s a sample someone would leave behind with the touch of a finger. But when placed with certain biochemicals a small amount of DNA grows to a size that can be analysed”
“GP Kate and heart consultant Gerry” are “both 39”
THE SUN page 15: “Only 17 cells of DNA in hol car”
“Cops looking for Madeleine McCann are banking on ‘a smidgen’ of DNA evidence. Scientists have found just 17 cells on samples taken from a hire car rented by Kate and Gerry McCann and their holiday flat”
Says independent forensic expert Dr Ronald Denny: “It is not a hopeless task. If they have 17 cells then they can carry it off very effectively in Birmingham, one of the leading labs in the world”
DAILY MAIL page 5: “Mission Impossible – Forensic evidence too poor to solve mystery of Madeleine, say police”
But Dr Denny is telling two papers otherwise…
A source tells Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas: “It is highly unlikely they will find a DNA connection…If everybody refuses to make statements, which is perfectly possible, we will be left with our hands tied. This is a case which could hang by a thread for years and we may never be able to prove what actually happened to that child”
But what about Dr Denny. Why don’t they ask Dr Denny?
Says Dr Denny: “A person, or their possessions, have to be present for the cells to come off”
DAILY MIRROR page 7: “Maddy: Smidgen of DNA will work?”
Dr Denny is on the case, or not. But the “independent British expert” does have an opinion which is able to share with all of us
DAILY STAR page 9: “MADDIE: IT’S ALL DOWN TO 17 CELLS”
Dr Denny is talking to Star readers…
“Top cop in blast at private eyes” – Former deputy chief constable of Manchester Police John Stalker says of Metodo 3: “I’m not impressed with these people at all. I’d be very surprised if they get anywhere”
This is the same Stalker who delivered “MY VERDICT” to Express reader back in October
“There’s a world of difference in following a paper chase and finding a flesh-and-blood child”
Or a newspaper chase…
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 11: “Madeleine tests are ‘mission impossible’”
Says a source in 24 Horas: “The samples reportedly include microscopic spots of blood from the Ocean Club apartment where Madeleine went missing and ‘bodily fluids’ and hair from the Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after their daughter’s disappearance. The samples are so small that, while it will not be impossible to find a DNA link between the car, apartment and Madeleine, it’s highly unlikely The tests being carried out are extremely complex”
But Dr Denny says…
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry’s friends have consistently said they are happy to be re-interviewed by police if necessary. Indeed, they are keen to help if it clears up any inconsistencies. They, like Gerry and Kate, have nothing to hide”
THE GUARDIAN and THE INDEPENDENT: “No Madeleine news today

QUOTE (Babelfish translation):
03.12.2007
The circle is closed again: phone-tappings imply Gerry McCann and Russel O’ Brien
EL MUNDO (*): Seven but months spent since the night or Madeleine McCann with mysteriously disappeared from its bed, the police force português appears closer than ever to the solution of the business than so much of ink, and money, made run. After a surprised visit with Elderby, sits of the police force of Leicestershire (the United Kingdom), from which Kate and Gerry McCann depend, the Portuguese authorities prepare to question has new the group of the nine British who are in the center of the mystery.
In co-operation with the British authorities, the Criminal Investigation Department will travel towards England, in the next weeks, with the objective to question Kate and Gerry McCann, but also their seven friends, with whom the parents dinaient the night of May 3.
The meeting of Elderby, between the police forces Portuguese and British, with the presence of several specialists in the scientific police force, with used to reinforce the line of investigation which the team of Paulo Rebelo follows since July and which led the McCann couple to the statute of “arguidos”, suspects.
The Portuguese Criminal Investigation Department continues with suspecter Kate and Gerry McCann to have dissimulated the corpse of their daughter, Madeleine, and to have simulated the crime of removal. A charge which extends to two other suspects : Robert Murat and Russell O’ Brien. As opposed to what many thought until today, the Criminal Investigation Department with in its possession much more probatory elements than the results of test ADN.
In more of various testimonys, lays out, for example, of the listing of phone calls carried out by the couple and his/her friends, knows also the recipients of the calls and, in certain cases, the contents exact of the conversations carried out by all the members of the group.
The call which more with intrigued the Portuguese police force took place between Gerry and O’ Brien on June 10. The father of Madeleine had initially ensured the police force that the call had been carried out from a place located at 4 km of the Ocean Club. But, the phone-tappings and the triangulation of the antenna-relays allowed the Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with British technicians, to prove that such assertions were false.
The place from where the call had passed and the contents of this one are the indices which missed and the police force wants to exploit it during the interrogations, which could lead to the rapid localization of the body of Madeleine.
The triangulation of the calls made it possible the police force to discover a given up storeroom, or they found a towel stained of blood on which fibres were found coming from the trunk of Renault Scénic rented by McCann.
Moreover, several vidéos, but also of the photographs, forms part of the file of investigation, in particular some which show that Murat knew already certain members of the group. Separately coincidence disconcerting of Murat had been in Exeter, at the time the place of residence of Russell O’ Brien and Jane Tanner, the Criminal Investigation Department with received his/her British colleagues several elements which can prove that Gerry McCann and Robert Murat already had crossed and spoken on several occasions, before even as McCann go travelled towards Praia da Luz.
A source close to the Ministry Public with confirmed that they exist sufficiently evidence, independently of tests ADN, to arrive at charges official. A decision that will be taken only after the interrogations and towards the end of the legal time, period at the end of which the business is not covered any more by the secrecy of justice.
With the reinforcement of the line of investigation and the suspicions of the Criminal Investigation Department against McCann, the investigators have eight month to conclude the investigation. After this time, the lawsuit will be public, as the new Portuguese penal code indicates it.
The situation To wrap Murat, Kate and Gerry McCann could even worsen quickly. Robert Murat was declared “arguido”, suspect, May 14, which means that the eight months finish in Le January couples McCann with summer put in examination on September 7, in their case the time finishes only in May.

Morning all, found you at last, for some reason I couldn’t get the Anorak page for today, some thoughtful soul put a link at the end of yesterday’s opinions.
So all the activity by the PJ is leading up to the MCConns being cleared is it? IMO the only way that is going to happen is if someone else is now very firmly in the frame.
Lulu, can I hop in?

As current Mr P is a keen rugby player, I am all too familiar with the different version!

My boys did a lovely version of, do your ears hang low, can you swing them to and fro at their gang show on Sat night. Complete with huge plastic ears. Akela pointed out that those who were familiar with rugby may know a different version. Not being a fan, I confess to being stumped.

Hello there,
I may be blind but I didn’t see any discussion on this forum about Daily Express’ yesterday’s article “British Diplomat in Portugal had doubts about the mcCanns” - mentioned also in yesterday’s Anorak topic. Well I think that article adds up to some of the concerns of political meddling and protection presented by anorak posters… Googling today I had a hard time finding that article.
—————————————–
Actually, it’s very easy to find. Just go to Google, type in diplomat madeleine, press News and there it is, the very first entry.
As I recall, discussion yesterday centered on the date of the alleged memo…

The Mccann’s lifted the shutter to aid the drying process after some clear up operations…….
And then altered that fact to say it was opened by a so called imaginary abductor……
More pieces of the jigsaw……not a lot of DNA but if you arrange all the facts the case is clear

Excellent news own here in Exeter - apparently Murat is also to be cleared of any involvement before the end of this week. Allegedly the DNA found in the car belonged to a constipated baboon.

Excellent news over here near the Welsh borders. The police can’t be ar*ed collecting DNA samples from our family car. Seemingly they think all the “goo” may have an innocent explanation. My four year old denies any involvement. I predict he’ll be cleared by the end of the week!

Has anyone considered the possibility that paying Metodo 3 is a method of money laundering? There are all these stories about them having 40 or more agents in the field and seeing frightened blonde girls with swarthy strangers around every corner… is there any evidence that they are actually doing anything? Or is the money just being siphoned off into a Swiss bank account somewhere…
Edit…
+++++++++++++++
No evidence as such. A few of us have commented that the fees seem huge and that given one of M3’s alleged areas of specialisation is “corporate fraud” that they would know of plenty of scams to enable someone to “lose” a lot of money very quickly. That’s just my opinion of course.
