Madeleine McCann: The Age Of Jose Anes, Gerry McCann’s Fury And Murat’s Nannies Know Best
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
THE SUN: “No one will ever stand trial”
Because no one has been charged with any crime?
Or: “NOBODY will EVER stand trial over missing Madeleine McCann because cops made so many vital blunders,” says the Sun. And so too says Jose Anes, 62: “Mistakes in the early hours demolished the entire case”
The ex-director of Lisbon’s police lab is “Portugal’s top forensic expert”, a billing the lab’s current director may dispute
Mr Anes says: “If the scene is not preserved in the first hours, all the hours of effort that follow are useless. I am utterly convinced — unless some new, concrete evidence suddenly emerges — the case will never reach trial”
But what of the evidence gathered so far, like the DNA samples found in the McCanns’ hire car?
“Maddie sniffer dog ‘was rigged’” - Gerry McCann is “FURIOUS” – as often he is. He “believes sniffer dogs used to find Maddie clues in the family’s hire car were MANIPULATED by cops”
Says a “source close to the couple”: “Gerry says a dog went up to the Scenic, sniffed around and went to head off. He watched the dog being brought back to the vehicle. Finally, it reacts around the boot area. Gerry was open-mouthed at that, he feels the dog was manoeuvred into a position where it could react”
And smell
“Murat pals ’saw him near flat’” – “SUSPECT Robert Murat was PALS with British holiday nannies who say they saw him the night Maddie vanished, it has emerged”
Good friends? “And at least two of the girls knew him well enough to be on first name terms”
That’s close, eh
“A source confirmed yesterday that he did befriend several girls, adding: ‘A lot are attractive and he made a beeline for them. When they were asked who was near the apartment that night, several mentioned Murat”
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine: Forensics expert says inquiry is ‘complete waste’ because of police blunders at apartment”
Says Jose Manuel Anes: “Huge amounts of money were spent but if, in the first hours, the due precautions for the preservation of the crime scene were not taken, all this hard work goes down the drain. We can spend rivers of money which will all go down the drain if the crime scene is not properly isolated”
The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: “It is alarming to hear that Mr Anes has this view. All we want, and have done throughout, is to ensure the operational police side of this has been done in an effective and efficient manner as possible”
And why is Mr Anes – “the 62-year-old” - speaking out now? Because he’s making his comments known in a book called The McCanns’ Guilt – not that the case will ever, come to trial, you understand
“Madeleine: Gerry’s fury at ‘bungling’ dog handlers” – More Gerry McCann fury
DAILY STAR: “MADDIE COPS HIDE WITNESS”
Says the paper: “The key witness in the Madeleine McCann inquiry was in hiding last night after fleeing Portugal” – Jane Tanner? Kate McCann? Gerry McCann? No, the unnamed Portuguese tapas waiter…
“Pals say he is terrified his identity is about to be revealed and claim he is also scared of British and Portuguese government influence in the probe…Friends add that he is worried about the private eyes hired by Gerry and Kate McCann, both 39, to help find their daughter”
One former work colleague of the waiter says: “He does not want to be involved in any of this. Through no fault of his own he finds himself at the heart of this worldwide mystery”
DAILY EXPRESS: “MADELEINE: WITNESS GOES ON THE RUN ‘TO PROTECT HIS EVIDENCE’”
“THE key witness in the missing Madeleine McCann case was in hiding last night after fleeing Portugal”
“POLICE WERE ‘SIDETRACKED’ BY MCCANNS” - Former police crime scene chief Jose Manuel Anes is “ONE of Portugal’s top forensic experts”
The WORLD’S GREATEST NEWSPAPER investigates. Mr Anes is “71”
And “last night hinted that Kate and Gerry McCann were partly to blame for the flawed investigation into their daughter’s disappearance”. Although the Sun says it was those bungling Portuguese police (see above)?
“They should not have been thinking of the poor little parents but I understand the human dimension and the pressure which immediately involved the investigators. Sometimes the police are too human. The police must be absolutely objective. Somebody’s suggestions and complaints connected to a person’s disappearance should be set aside while the evidence is being gathered. In the moments immediately following the occurrence the goal is to gather everything and preserve everything”
Not bungling, rather too caring; too human
DAILY MIRROR: “McCann DNA clue ‘useless’”
Jose Manuel Anes is 62. He is the retired head of Portugal’s police science laboratory.
He tells the Mirror, and everyone else: “I fear the case will never reach trial” - and even if it did, no jury would be able to convict anyone.
BBC: Audience for BBC News 24 peaked in 2007 at 8.2 million in the week ending 1 July for the bomb attack on Glasgow Airport and at 7.9 million for the story of the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann in the week ending 13 May

REPLY: I cannot agree. There are just too many signs that the abduction hoax was developed in a panic sometime between the night of Wednesday 2 May and the afternoon of Thursday 3 May. If something had happened as early as you say, Salomon ES, they woud have thought up a much better abduction smokescreen than the one they came up with on 3rd May

Since the place was inundated very quickly with posters and all kinds of publicity re: the eye blemish, against advice as we have said before, I doubt they were just seeing what lovely coloured eyes she had !! do you not think so ???

Actually, the Mirror forum link is to the incredibly long ‘Malta’ thread still going strong on Anorak; it’s written very sloppily to imply that all the threads here are similar.
I’m surprised the poster didn’t bother to actually look at the thread in question…

Mods and Admin , only 2 threads are running in Anorak as regards Madeleine McCann, this current one and another one. There are some unpaid pro Mcc there who are pretty upset over everything, and we should rather they were left alone. Their main concern is Madeleine, and she needs her supporters, they are very kind people

****
I agree with you that ‘blue sky’ ideas are valuable on one hand.
But, for me, I am more interested in what evidence will be presented to the prosecutor.
It sounds like the police are basing the case on independent witness testimony, and it also sounds as if the DNA lab has requested blood/fluid from the crime scene(s).
Remember the photo of the detective carrying the black carry on bag in the airport?
That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

I think this ‘new’ evidence stuff is just more fodder to keep everyone buying their papers. Tomorrow it will be buried again. Seems rather far-fetched that the PJ would wait until now to have any new stuff analysed. Physical deterioration will surely diminish the chance of any new ‘discovery’.

Ian, there is no possibility of a child in a coma surviving without the specialist kit mentioned in my post.
There is no piece of information which could change those physical facts.
As it was I omitted the intense monitoring required to inform the management of a comatose patient, for example, arterial blood gas samplers and ecg machines to name but two.

Arguido was duly certificated by the Lagos Court
Robert Murat translated key witness
The declarations of Dianne Webster were explained to the PJ by the man that was later declared suspect
Text Carlos Tomás
Rober Murat arguido in Maddie’s case, translated to the Criminal Police the depositions of a key witness in the investigation of the disappearance of Maddie in the 3rd of May, from a flat in Praia da Luz, Lagos, Algarve. The deposition is the one of Dianne Webster, 63 years old, the oldest person in the group that dinned at the Tapas Bar, with Maddie’s parents and the other friends.
In the deposition of this witness there are contradictions in relation to other 6 depositions of the persons that shared the dinner with the McCanns, discovered 24 Horas near sources responsible by the investigation.
“She is one of the persons that will be questioned through the rogatory letters made by the PJ and the Public Prosecutor.
We believe that she will have fundamental elements to the solution of this case. But only time will tell. In this moment the investigations are stalled by the bureaucracy of the rogatory letters”, explained a source of the Public Prosecutor.
Dianne Webster works in the financial area - is a credit controller - and she is the mother of Fiona Payne, another of the persons that participated in the dinner at the Tapas Bar. She is also the grandmother of two children of the group that spent holidays in the Ocean Club.
The Englishwoman explained to the PJ, according to the version translated by Robert Murat, that she could not precise how many persons of the group abandoned the restaurant the night Maddie disappeared. She also said that each couple that was in the dinner was responsible for their own children, affirmation that contradicts the affirmations of other witnesses herd by the PJ and the ones of the McCanns, that ensured to the authorities that they take turns to visit the kids every 15 minutes.
Also according to the deposition translated by Robert Murat, this witness was the only one to stay at the Tapas Bar when Kate McCann entered the Bar screaming “They’ve taken her”. Dianne only left the Tapas several minutes after the alarm was raised.
Murat participated also in other inquirings to witnesses of the investigation, but none of them related with the Tapas Bar group. According to Francisco Pagarete, Murat’s lawyer, he was sworn by the Lagos Court and duly certificated to make the translations.
Ghost Footage
The British press divulged in the last 2 days the existence of footage of the Ocean Club where allegedly appear 3 individuals in suspect attitudes. They revealed that those images are being treated by the FBI to try to identify the persons. Nonetheless several sources connected to the investigations denied peremptorily the existence of that footage or any alike and also that no proof or evidence was sent to the FBI.

I think digital cameras in particular can cause weird artifact-effects, peculiar distortions of all kinds.
I’m an expert at photo manipulation and most of us computer types can manage it pretty well.
Added to that, we have the equipment and the hours of experience.
No, I think that the McCs selectively cropped and edited out 99% of the photos they have to help their case. But I don’t think they took the time to Clone-tool anything.
I’ve taught students in Photoshop, and most of them are absolutely horrible at the technique when they are novices.
We could pick apart any photos that we have taken ourselves. But we are getting myopic on the McCs.
What the police need are eye-witnesses.
For instance, if anyone SAW G doing photo manipulation on his laptop–then I’d give it more credence.

———————————————————–
I think that about the only thing we agree on is that this is wild speculation.
The reality is that in order to maintain life you would need a lot of specialist kit; paediatric sized venflons, bags of saline and dextrose along with total parenteral nutrition (if you’re talking more than a few days) might be tricky to stumble upon , even if you are a Doctor, especially so in the wake of your child’s purported abduction.
All of this assumes the ability of a comatose patient to sustain their own vital functions, respiration and the like without mechanical assistance which is by no means assured…

499 Interesting is it not?
Its about that 5 minute window of opportunity and the clean up job. If the blood is madeleines, the McCanns were given the chance to explain in an interview and said ‘we dont even know if any blood was found’ instead of making an excuse. So no nose blleds or other causes, yet the blood was under a tile under a sofa.

McCanns ‘back in the frame’ after new Maddy apartment evidence is sent to the UK
Daily Mail
Portuguese police are sending new forensic material in the Madeleine McCann case to British scientists, it was revealed today.
The previously untested evidence is believed to come from the holiday apartment where she was last seen.
The move indicates that police in Portugal are maintaining their case that Madeleine died in the flat on the night of 3 May and that Kate and Gerry remain prime suspects.
It is believed that the latest tests are designed to bolster the original forensic results from the apartment, which are believed to have found traces of Madeleine’s blood.
Experts from the Forensic Science laboratory in Birmingham will also conduct separate tests to establish where DNA already found in the McCanns’ apartment came from.
To do this, further samples from the dozens of people who were in the apartment either before or after the girl disappeared are being sent to the laboratory.
The decision to submit the new forensic material was taken after a meeting in Leicestershire between Portuguese detectives and the British scientists.
Sources close to the investigation say that the aim is to “bring into sharper focus” the results previously sent to Portugal and to remove any possible alternative explanations for these findings.
Today’s disclosures follow persistent claims, in the UK and Portugal, that the value of the forensic findings had been wrecked by the police failure to seal off the scene for weeks.
Sceptics have also claimed that the slow pace of the Portuguese investigation mean that the inquiry is running aground.
Sources in Britain dismiss such claims and say that although progress is methodical rather than spectacular, the new tests are intended to firm up the case being built by Portuguese detectives.
“New material is being sent and tests will be conducted to eliminate some people and to shine a brighter light on the results that have already been found,” said one source close to the investigation.”
“There is no dramatic change in the course of the inquiry and although progress might be slower than some people might expect, that does not mean that nothing is happening.”
The new forensic tests come three months after a first batch of findings were sent to Portugal by experts from the Forensic Science Service.
The arrival of these initial results led to the McCanns being named as official suspects, although both continue to strongly deny any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance.
No official confirmation of what these tests found has been provided, but leaks from Portugal suggest they include spots of Madeleine’s blood in the Praia da Luz apartment and traces of her bodily fluids and hair in the couple’s hire car.

The episode you relate is fascinating and I totally believe what you say. I have heard events like yours recounted, in different forms, but all supporting the existence of spirit all around us, so many times. Spirit intervention doesn’t just come in one form — things that go ‘bump’ in the night, shadows seen out of the corner of your eye, ‘ghosts’, footsteps dragging along a corridor, or the door handle slowly turning….the door creaking…..
I’ll tell you a little story of my own. This has just happened. I had a dear friend. I saw him last on December 1st, this December we’re in now. He left me to return to London on that day having stayed the night. We arranged that he return to me on December 12th (just passed) when we would drive together to a nearby village for some business purpose. On December 2nd I was standing by the window of my house arranging Christmas decorations when, suddenly and startlingly a small bird flew up from my left side, apparently from the floor, and fluttered against the window where a comfortable armchair, which my friend always sat in was positioned. My cat made a leap for the bird, and I grabbed the cat. The bird then flew into a pot Geranium on the right side of the chair and simply sat there, unwilling to move. But the extraordinary part of this episode is — there was not one door or window open in the house and there had not been one door or window open since the day before, and the bird certainly wasn’t in the house from the previous day. My cat would have got it for one thing.
The bird did not want to leave but I opened the garden door, went upstairs, and eventually - but not until I returned from upstairs - the bird flew out. It literally had to be chased out. I felt very disturbed by this incident and had in my mind that a bird in the house meant death. I looked it up on the internet and sure enough, it did. Needless to say I was very worried, thinking it might be me or my son.
On the 12th December my friend did not arrive as planned. I learned later, after frantic phone calls to everyone and ultimately to police that he had died of a massive heart attack on the morning of the 12th December as he was preparing to leave the house to come to me. Had the heart attack occurred while he was in the car with me a few hours later we would both assuredly be dead, not just him. So I was saved. And I was warned.
By spirit?
December 18th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
472 Because he is a loud mouthed joker, typical of the type of man who bullies children and wives in private (like one or two posters here - I hate to admit this but when I see Garth arrive I get a chill! Damn now he knows!).
In public - a coward. Nearly cries for the first time when he has been made a suspect and the wheels come off his wagon - I can just imagine the star chart was his idea - he wanted to get his end away and that bloody kid kept arriving!

Yes but then there would more people complicit in a cover-up–a criminal act.
Those people tell other people, and so it goes.
A leaky ship–and we’re not hearing any leaks yet.
Remember there was a witness from MW the morning after the crime who help the McCs choose their pictures.
I definitely believe there was some selective cropping and editing going on to help their case.
But photo manipulation seems to be getting into the “I saw Elvis” zone. But since I’ve seen Elvis myself on the DC Metro, you can never be 100% sure.
