Madeleine McCann: Praia da Luz Calls, Maddy Shunned And Portugal On The Edge
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL page 36: “Madeleine: Portuguese detectives trawl thousands of phone records”
Police are looking through phone records of Praia da Luz’a 27,000 residents at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. They are looking for unusual call patterns. Bugging calls
A local resident of Praia da Luz says the police questioned her, saying: “We are investigating all calls made within Praia da Luz from 9.30pm onwards on May 3″
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Any information could prove vital”
THE SUN page 15: “Maddie cops seize local phone bills”
“They are using a method of triangulation which pinpoints a person’s location via their mobile and are also checking land-line calls”
Can it work? Says the Sun: “Mobile phone evidence exposed holes in the alibi of Soham murderer Ian Huntley”. And that is similar to this case because..?
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY – Blitz to fined phone clues”
Page 10: “COPS CHECK EVERY CALL ON DAY MADDY VANISHED”
Well, not every call. Just calls made in the area of Praia da Luz by those 1,000 persons on a police list
DAILY EXPRESS page 19: “Now Madeleine police seize all phone records”
The papers says the search is in light of talk of a “massive conspiracy”. The Express is belived to be fond of a conspiracy
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry are encouraged by this police work because it shows the investigation is now active and thorough…Crucially they also hope it may lead to them being reunited with Madeleine”
DAILY STAR: “PARENTS SHY AWAY FROM NAME ‘MADDY’”
Or Madeleine, for that is her name
The name Madeleine is “now lower than at any time in the past five years”. It is now the 80th most popular name. Says a child psychologist called Ruth: “The majority of people who hear the name Madeleine automatically associate it with her”
What the top girl’s name is readers are not told, nor where Kate features. The Telegraph says it is “Grace”, as in Baby Grace
NEW YORK TIMES: “Portugal Polishes Its Image as the ‘West Coast of Europe’”
Portugal wants to reposition itself. Portugal is exciting, shiny, new and historical.
But: “The unsolved case remains a big story for the British tabloids, and there have been reports of declines in tourism from Britain, an important market for Portugal.
“Over all, though, tourism remains strong, Manuel Pinho, Portugal’s minister for the economy and innovation said. ‘This is a tragic case, of course, but it has not affected the numbers,’ he said. ‘It’s a very peaceful country, a very safe country’”

Stevo - he went into it in some length, but it was all geek speak, not old Harry Hind Sight’s line of country at all.
Look, if people are concerned they should refer it to the PJ or the Leciestershire police - it is not for me to judge. Though I am looking forward to my questioning of the Chaplins’ personel -

No disrespect to HHS, but having a computer friend who comes out with some revelations is all well and good but I put my money where my mouth is. Why doesn’t HHS’ friend do the same. My work on the pool and playground photos is my own - it didn’t appear anywhere else apart from an analyis on shadows by the pool and idiots saying Murat was hiding in the plastic castle taking photos.
Harry dear boy…how about your learned friend actually telling you why he thinks the photo(s) are possibly fake?

How strange,

Analyses on hair and fluids don’t conclude whether the child was alive or dead
Maddie’s residues in the house of Robert Murat
The Portuguese authorities are convinced that they have collected residues - hair and bodily fluids - which prove the presence of Madeleine McCann in the residence of Robert Murat, the Anglo-Portuguese that was constituted an arguido within the process of the disappearance of the girl, on May 3, from Praia da Luz, in Lagos, Algarve.
“When the suspect’s house was searched, several clues were detected that point to Maddie having been in that house. This is based on forensic tests that were performed both at the Scientific Police Lab and at the National Institute for Forensic Medicine”, a high-ranking judicial officer told 24Horas. Those diligences, according to the same source, were made after the McCanns had rented the Renault Scenic, where fluids from the child were also detected.
“There was time for concealing and getting rid of the body”, the same source said.
The problem is that evidence is not conclusive. “It has not been possible to confirm definitely if the residues belong to a living person or a dead person”, the same source confesses.
“She may have been there alive.” The relationship of the Anglo-British man with Maddie’s parents is also under scrutiny. “Although [Murat] denies knowing the McCanns, we have been able to conclude that this fact does not match the truth. They [Murat and the McCanns] knew each other. But the fact that Maddie may have been in Murat’s house is not enough to prove that he hid her body. She may have been there alive”, the same source admitted.
A top officer at the National Institute for Forensics Medicine has also confirmed that tests were performed on residues that were collected in the house and from the vehicles of Robert Murat by PJ inspectors and confirmed that there is a possibility that the body was hidden there.
These samples would have been collected during two searches, that were performed on June 10 and August 4. When he was detained and constituted an arguido, on May 14, Murat did not see his house being thoroughly searched. It was not possible to determine during which one of these diligences the residues were found, which may compromise the Anglo-British man in the alleged disappearance of the little girl.
Another source that is connected to the investigations said that “only after all the forensic tests [which were performed by a forensic lab in Birmingham] are back, will it be possible to have more certainties”.
Meanwhile, the McCanns’ lawyers will deliver to British authorities a list with the names of 25 persons. The purpose is to “help clean the couple’s names” and to make the Portuguese authorities to focus the diligences back into the direction of finding little Madeleine.
The McCanns continue to maintain the abduction theory

I have heard that this is not so. That the original photo will have data imbedded into it by the camera, which is not transferred to a copy. That’s why you can identify copies versus originals. So I heard…

Maybe you are right and the older lady babysat while they night-clubbed. Just suppose a sedation system was in place, M was in bed, inhaled her own vomit in her sleep - the lady was in the lounge, nodded off etc, thought all was quiet on the western front until the revellers returned and M was found dead. If K and G were in the habit of sedating, they would have been responsible, but the babysitting lady might also have feared she would be accused of negligence as she was there. This could have created a reason for a collaborative cover up as more than one family had something to lose.
All this would be inconsistent with the old lady in the flat above saying she heard M crying on the night of 2 May. However, we can’t actually be sure whose child was crying, if at all, though it seems likely she did hear something.
I have often wondered why the Payne couple took one of their parent’s with them to PDL - surely to babysit? Yet she was with the others in the Tapas bar on 3 May. You would have thought she’d have stayed in that night, possibly knowing that the others would be making a heavy night of it, as it was meant to be their last night in PDL.
It must be possible to prove where they had dined on each night. CCTV cameras are everywhere these days and the case is so high profile.

Another line of argument similar to yours would be for what happened BEFORE Chaplins. That is, if Madeleine had died before that, and they were planning a cover-up, perhaps it would be unlikely that they would booze it up so far away. Then again, maybe they had not figured out what they were going to do yet, and were discussing it at Chaplins… on what day were they said to have ‘dined’ at Sagres, 25km away…?…
Dianne Webster being 58… would she be friends with Brian Kennedy the Jehovah Witness tycoon?

Copy the photo to your PC and then look at the properties. If it were onloy possible to tell how old a pixel is, then maybe!
I dont know anough about computer forensics, Stevo seems to be very wel linformed regarding photo manipulation (from he graphics past I think) but even he cannot get the pixels ‘aged’!

177 Very hard to prove! Copy a photo from anywhere and see what the ‘properties’ are….see what I mean?
I copied the playground photo to my PC hard drive and now its says it was created today on my PC!
If I copied it on a camera card, it would be as it it were taken on that camera. If Gerry had a camera card in his wallet and the wallet was stolen…..or nudge nudge wink wink stolen!

“Have a look a thte plaground photo where Gerry is looking at Sean but appers oblivious to Madeleine, who is ‘jumping’(balancing?) in front of him. Now look at her knee…looks peculiar doesnt it? Look at her right foot, is that a right foot?
Now, who is to say that that hasnt been ‘deliberately messed up ‘ to look like it is a forgery? See what I mean?”
VERY interesting. The defense could maintain that photos have been altered to make them look fake. But is there not a record of who published the playground photo, and who it was received from?
As for photos with the police, the defense could try and make people believe that the police have corrupted evidence, but McCann credibility is so low I can’t see how they can impugn anyone else’s…

Ian Says:
“However, if the McCanns released doctored photos, to try to show Madeleine alive across more days than she was there for, the PJ coud have presented photos where they had removed her as did Stevo, to show that they knew. The defence team could then claim any photos without her in were doctored (i.e.reverse the argument!)”.
Yes, I do see what you mean but wouldn’t you just need a couple of techie experts in court to prove that the photo’s the McCanns released were in fact doctored. Maybe you would also need the equipment/source of the doctoring used by the McCanns. If you get my drift. So If HH’s mate’s hunch is correct then he could tell us how you could come to a conclusive argument re the doctoring.
Bit waffly sorry but got to go now.
Cheers

Be sensible , no one is going to want to be seen with a 58 year old women in a night club, especially a 58 year old man.
Now, a 58 year old man with a vast wallet, well that is a different matter - Not fair you say, well I say that life is not fair what what hey hey

To be fair to Harry, he has only ever attacked the PJ because of his prejudice against ‘jonny foreigner’.
Im not sure he ever really thought the McCanns were innocent of all accusations, but he likes the legal terminology and the in court line ‘innocent until proven guilty’ - fair enough.
However, I would trust his honesty regarding anything he might uncover in PDL.

“Could it be more likely that an accident occurred on the Chaplin’s night and, when discovered, was too late to do anything about it, thus the purported abduction?”
However, last week it was reported that the police had wanted to charge Kate with intentional murder, but felt the evidence was not strong enough. Could be an accident, or could be a murder by the “paedophile intruder”.
“If they had left the children for a long time and knew that their visit to Chaplin’s would be evident, they would have realised that a child neglect charge would probably ensue, because of the obvious distance… At least by being in the Tapas bar on the night she went “missing” they were somewhat nearer to her, which they may have hoped would mitigate their actions somewhat.”
I believe Gerry was misled to believe that the apartment was considered in the resort, and it was legal to leave children alone. (Still, distance would matter in public perception) But if they had wanted to mitigate based on distance, then they would have STOPPED leaving their children alone, stayed in, and done something ‘careless’ such as leave a window open or door unlocked. (Salomon ES has also pointed this out)
I think the false mitigation (Gerry’s lying about distance , visibility, etc) was thought of later on. Perhaps Gerry was made to realize that it was not legal after all. JMO.
