Madeleine McCann: Praia da Luz Calls, Maddy Shunned And Portugal On The Edge
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL page 36: “Madeleine: Portuguese detectives trawl thousands of phone records”
Police are looking through phone records of Praia da Luz’a 27,000 residents at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. They are looking for unusual call patterns. Bugging calls
A local resident of Praia da Luz says the police questioned her, saying: “We are investigating all calls made within Praia da Luz from 9.30pm onwards on May 3″
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Any information could prove vital”
THE SUN page 15: “Maddie cops seize local phone bills”
“They are using a method of triangulation which pinpoints a person’s location via their mobile and are also checking land-line calls”
Can it work? Says the Sun: “Mobile phone evidence exposed holes in the alibi of Soham murderer Ian Huntley”. And that is similar to this case because..?
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY – Blitz to fined phone clues”
Page 10: “COPS CHECK EVERY CALL ON DAY MADDY VANISHED”
Well, not every call. Just calls made in the area of Praia da Luz by those 1,000 persons on a police list
DAILY EXPRESS page 19: “Now Madeleine police seize all phone records”
The papers says the search is in light of talk of a “massive conspiracy”. The Express is belived to be fond of a conspiracy
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry are encouraged by this police work because it shows the investigation is now active and thorough…Crucially they also hope it may lead to them being reunited with Madeleine”
DAILY STAR: “PARENTS SHY AWAY FROM NAME ‘MADDY’”
Or Madeleine, for that is her name
The name Madeleine is “now lower than at any time in the past five years”. It is now the 80th most popular name. Says a child psychologist called Ruth: “The majority of people who hear the name Madeleine automatically associate it with her”
What the top girl’s name is readers are not told, nor where Kate features. The Telegraph says it is “Grace”, as in Baby Grace
NEW YORK TIMES: “Portugal Polishes Its Image as the ‘West Coast of Europe’”
Portugal wants to reposition itself. Portugal is exciting, shiny, new and historical.
But: “The unsolved case remains a big story for the British tabloids, and there have been reports of declines in tourism from Britain, an important market for Portugal.
“Over all, though, tourism remains strong, Manuel Pinho, Portugal’s minister for the economy and innovation said. ‘This is a tragic case, of course, but it has not affected the numbers,’ he said. ‘It’s a very peaceful country, a very safe country’”

Just burst out laughing when I read this on the This Is London report :
“After all, the two doctors had brains on their side.”
——————————————————————————
Presumably this explains the Telegraph headline ‘The McCanns have cancelled Christmas’.
In future it will be called the Feast of Unusually Located Organs…

I said that about the interviews many weeks ago. There’s no way they can claim mis translation.
And by the way - it’s not such an archaic system my dear fellow. If you’re british and you face any legal or administrative proceedings abroad you will find that most of your documents have to be translated and signed by a sworn translator. What would you do with a videotape? Put some subtitles and send it to the court?

Yes, I agree. I wonder what kind of weird family, Liangian dynamic will now swing into operation–perhaps Mrs. McCann suspects her son was duped into protecting kate. In her interview pics about the Christmas non-celebrations, she seemed very concerned but also very thoughtful, as though in responding to questions, she was also figuring something else out.
In her Panorama interview, Mrs. Healey is of course immaculately groomed, nails manicured and painted, eyebrows painted….a modulated voice that never changes tone. But then, those long pauses, furtive eye movements when asked about her daughter kate’s state of mind….and then, also on Panorama, Kate’s own assertion (eerily gay, in song-songish voice) that Gerry is a generally positive person, “And that’s very good for ME!” Indicating that Katie is chronically depressed.
Yes, both families have a lot to lose as the truth comes forward, slowly, slowly, in dribs and drabs, but comes forward, nonetheless. Auntie Phil’s glorification of her brother, Gerry, is striking–her memory of Christmas past is that SHE and GERRY played “horsies” with “the children. She doesn’t mention Kate. There’s something odd in how, from the very beginning, when auntie Phil referred to “the family” it seemed as though she were leaving out kate entirely.
And Gerry’s brother, well, for him to step out of denial will cost him his new “job,” which he seems to rather enjoy a bit more than what he was doing previously.
And there are several Madeleine “cousins”–school-aged, who must be coming into a lot of contact with other children and adults who might cause them to question their own relatives.
Presumably, the typical client contract signed with a group like Metodo will entitled the clients to a monthly report, sent along with that hefty bill, of course. So why don’t the McCanns release these reports, if they have nothing to hide? And if Metodo is closing in on the abductor and Madeleine will soon be home (which we at Anorak know is a confabulation), why not pop the champagne right now?

303 DCB, no, he said this on video about PDL. Nobody needs to misquote the McCanns, thats why they really should be allowed to speak more often.

Yeah, first one that comes to mind that did nothing to help find Madeleine in any event, was to pay their mortgage for a few months. Oh sorry, I’m forgetting ….. they needed to keep the home for when she comes home from her little castle ……………… grrrrrrrrrrr

Matt - 2 paragraphs together:
Recently they all went to Mark Warner’s in Greece where they had devised a plan of leaving their children to sleep while they had dinner nearby.
As Mr McCann explained: “The distance is so small, it was so close it was almost like having dinner in your garden. What we were doing was rigorous with multiple people checking at regular intervals.”
So in fact was Gerry being misquoted about Portugal, and actually was quoted from Greece about the safety factor?

About that theory that Madeleine died when they went out for dinner at Chaplin’s or elsewhere away from the resort:
I too think this is very likely - several indicators (such as lack of photographs of Madeleine in PDL etc.) suggest that Madeleine did not spend a lot of time in PDL.
A few weeks ago some commentators mentioned that Portuguese criminal law would prosecute gross negligence (such as abandoning your children) - particularly when the negligence is by the parents or guardians, and particularly when their negligence results in the death or serious harm to the child. These same commentators have presented two main reasons for the McCanns not to be charged with neglect under POrtugal’s Criminal Code: one was that there was no evidence of Madeleine’s death and the other was that because they were within the perimeter of the resort it would be difficult to get a judge to accept this as gross negligence.
I don’t believe that the McCanns or their friends have legal training - even less that they are familiar with portuguese criminal law and jurisprudence on this matter. IMO they have been advised by someone (or came to that conclusion themselves…) that they’d be less likely to face charges and prosecution for negligence if they were not away from the apartment when an accident had happened.
But why then fake an abduction? Why not say that it happened in front of them, or even better when they were sleeping in the room next door after arriving that same night?
This is the main sticking point.
And IMO this suggests that Madeleine was sedated and not with Calpol.

Dear Harry Hindsight
Here is a transcript of an emergency call you received at 21.00hrs May 3, 2007
..” Harry, you’ve got to help me, it’s Gerry..We’re on holiday in Portugal…I’ve Accidentally oversedated Madeline, she’s dead..it’s too late to call an ambulance ..I haven’t called the police yet..I’m worried the Police will take the twins away from us.. what do you advise i do when the police come??..”"

Having read the article on that link (287 Stevo).
It always makes me smile when they say people have consistantlydenied something (’it wasnt me’) as if it makes them innocent by repetition.
How could they have continued to lie in the face of world wide public exposure? What was the alternative exactly?

Yes, you’re right. In the USA there’s a lot of products that have “night” or “PM” appended to them and they include dyphenhydramine - commonly known as Benadryl in the USA. Benadryl is an anti-histamine with sedative properties. In fact, over the counter sleep-aid is the exact same thing as Benadryl.
I always remember months ago when Kris said “I can’t say I’ve never given Benadryl to my kids to make them sleep”.

The archaic procedures made her grilling all the more arduous. Instead of taping the interviews, an officer took hand-written notes in Portuguese of Kate’s comments, which were then translated back into English at regular intervals for her approval.
So no chance of the mistranslations later claimed huh?

Metodo 3 or Retardo 3…whatever you like to call them are silly. If they KNOW where Madeleine is, why don’t they collect the $3,000,000 reward on offer by the News of the World? That’s more than the $100,000 they’re being paid by Rothley Manor.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
“”"”Gerry and Kate McCann and their friends are like-minded people, with children of
similar ages. And they knew each other in the Midlands. Mr McCann is a consultant cardiologist at a Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital and his wife is a GP.
Until recently Dr Oldfield worked at Leicester general hospital. David Payne is a senior research fellow in cardiovascular sciences at Leicester University and his wife, Fiona,
is a doctor. Another of the holidaymakers, Dr Russell O’Brien, also worked at Leicester University before moving this summer.

You know behind the scenes there has to be family members who have doubts. I feel so sorry for them. They are the real loving family members. Philomena is a loose cannon and I’m sure her heart is in the right place. As for the grandparents, I really feel for them.

There is an inaccuracy (as susual!) it says…
Since Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann were named official suspects, they have not used money from the Find Madeleine Fund.

“Yep - but very strange - “when Kate shouts, you stay here and we’ll all go””
Somewhat contrarily, I imagine the same scenario as everyone having received instructions but her — maybe she asked ‘what do I do’ and was told ‘nothing, just stay there’.

alas–in my coffee-free donut-free state of delerium, I forgot to add all those zeros to metodo’s fees–$50,000 Euros/Pounds/dollars.
Sorry!
But why are all the McCanns’ faces so long?
Gerry’s mum knows something’s wrong, her pic leaves no doubt. Mrs. Healey is in very deep denial. But Gerry’s mum seems horrified. Silent, but horrified. Wonder what she’s thinking about her aggressive, foul-mouthed lad and that girl he married….

So what you’re saying is that they left the kids after that first night when she could have “disappeared”? Interesting but I doubt many people would have cottoned on to how many kids belonged to each family and therefore wouldn’t be so suspicious if the McCanns were only seen with 2 kids. Also, that would mean all T9 would be involved and know Madeleine was gone. I can see hiding Madeleine from the night of May 2 through May 3 but not an entire week. IMO.
December 20th, 2007 at 3:30 pm
Could someone help tracking back where the McCanns dinned every night of their holiday since they arrived until the 3rd ?
I’ve read they had dinner at Tapas (3rd) Chaplin’s (2nd) and someone mentioned Millenium???

Isn’t it strange that the grans and Auntie Phil are all so blue, and not having any Christmas, when Metodo 3–which the McCanns are paying something like (I forget, actually) 50 euros (?) (pounds?) A MONTH–has just announced that:
1. Metodo knows who took Madeleine;
2. Metodo knows WHERE they and Madeleine ARE;
3. Metodo 3 will tell the police about all this at ANY MOMENT; and
4. Metodo will reuinte Madeleine with her parents over Christmas.
5. Case closed!
So…if Metodo is worth its pence, why so glum? why have a blue Christmas?
Isn’t it all going to be fine?
If not, then…what does this mean? And why won’t the McCanns elaborate on it? Do they never have any interaction with their own, self-selected, self-hired detectives?
Wassadeal on that?
