Madeleine McCann: Praia da Luz Calls, Maddy Shunned And Portugal On The Edge
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL page 36: “Madeleine: Portuguese detectives trawl thousands of phone records”
Police are looking through phone records of Praia da Luz’a 27,000 residents at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. They are looking for unusual call patterns. Bugging calls
A local resident of Praia da Luz says the police questioned her, saying: “We are investigating all calls made within Praia da Luz from 9.30pm onwards on May 3″
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Any information could prove vital”
THE SUN page 15: “Maddie cops seize local phone bills”
“They are using a method of triangulation which pinpoints a person’s location via their mobile and are also checking land-line calls”
Can it work? Says the Sun: “Mobile phone evidence exposed holes in the alibi of Soham murderer Ian Huntley”. And that is similar to this case because..?
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY – Blitz to fined phone clues”
Page 10: “COPS CHECK EVERY CALL ON DAY MADDY VANISHED”
Well, not every call. Just calls made in the area of Praia da Luz by those 1,000 persons on a police list
DAILY EXPRESS page 19: “Now Madeleine police seize all phone records”
The papers says the search is in light of talk of a “massive conspiracy”. The Express is belived to be fond of a conspiracy
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry are encouraged by this police work because it shows the investigation is now active and thorough…Crucially they also hope it may lead to them being reunited with Madeleine”
DAILY STAR: “PARENTS SHY AWAY FROM NAME ‘MADDY’”
Or Madeleine, for that is her name
The name Madeleine is “now lower than at any time in the past five years”. It is now the 80th most popular name. Says a child psychologist called Ruth: “The majority of people who hear the name Madeleine automatically associate it with her”
What the top girl’s name is readers are not told, nor where Kate features. The Telegraph says it is “Grace”, as in Baby Grace
NEW YORK TIMES: “Portugal Polishes Its Image as the ‘West Coast of Europe’”
Portugal wants to reposition itself. Portugal is exciting, shiny, new and historical.
But: “The unsolved case remains a big story for the British tabloids, and there have been reports of declines in tourism from Britain, an important market for Portugal.
“Over all, though, tourism remains strong, Manuel Pinho, Portugal’s minister for the economy and innovation said. ‘This is a tragic case, of course, but it has not affected the numbers,’ he said. ‘It’s a very peaceful country, a very safe country’”

I wonder if Calpol is simialar to Vick’s Ny-Quil. Looking at the generic version of the latter, it contains 10 percent alcohol and active ingredients aceaminophen (pain reliever/fever reducer), dextromethorphan (cough supressant), and doxylamine succinate (antihistamine). It is my indulgence when I think I am getting a cold, and it pretty much knocks me out, certainly helps me sleedp. And I always feel better in the morning.
Instructions say seek guidance from doctor for children under 12. In the event of overdose, adults or children, even in the absence of symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. It is sweet and licorice/anise flavored. Alcolohol is listed as an inactive ingredient. Does anyone know why?

Perhaps a last-ditch effort to meet at various hotels around the British Isles to get the stories straight.

Is it true? Did M die on the 1st while her parents were further away than previously thought? Time will tell, but there’s the ring of truth about this theory , isn’t there? cue Gandolf

Anyone who has any romantic idea about justice being fair and equitable only need look at the result of the Omagh bomb trial today, yes life sucks and justice loses out to clever defense lawyers, or perhaps the prosecution were just inept. Same as the Scottish trials flagged up yesterday the Judge criticised the quality of the forensics, guess where that was processed.

Well well well. Two nights before, the night of the first of May - whilst the adoring parents were perhaps enjoying happy hour in a ‘nearby restaurant’?
But did the parents return at 11:45 or did something else terminate the cries? I’d have thought it would have been the cries of three children, unless two were ‘zonked out’?
Interesting.

I would think that the PJ have always had a very close “eye” on all of
the Characters in this melodrama…as and when they pop onto the
“stage”.
But…I firmly believe that Mr Marco, if asked to be candid…would
honestly say, in his very best Manuel impersonation, “I no noth-eeeng”.

This is interesting. Is this just about the McCann children, or the whole Tapas 9 lot?
sorry to be confused, I am just bouncing in and out (like how the Tapas 9 did their checks) doing some admin tasks….

I’ve been hearing the babysitter cancellation story since September. It just resurfaced again today from a television program in Spain (?) reviewed here on Anorak today.
No one has said which children the babysitter was arranged for, if it was just the McC’s or all of the Tapa’s children. But it connects to the story of everyone minding their own children that evening—which was a quote by the imfamous ninth-wheel in the group, Dianne Webster, Payne’s mother … AND the rumor that all of the children were kept together in one apartment.
So the question is, who was the babysitter engaged to watch and what time was it cancelled.

Perhaps the phone fuss is a prelude to this. I would assume that Metodo is being watched/followed by the PJ, they’d be bollocks not to do that.

Also from May 9:
Portuguese families are accustomed to taking their children out to dinner with them, even late at night. LuÍs Villas-Boas, a psychologist, accused the McCanns of being “negligent through overconfidence”. “Leaving two twin babies and a three-year-old girl alone for more than a minute is not exactly a recommended pattern of behaviour in Portugal or any other part of the world,” he said.
December 20th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
Interesting from the Times on May 9:
“I think the authorities are doing a fine job in the search to find Madeleine,” Pedro Tadeu wrote in 24 Horas newspaper. “They have mobilised hundreds of people to find the girl – police, specialists, investigators, boats, helicopters and cars.” Portuguese newspapers have also become increasingly convinced that any kidnapper could not have been Portuguese. Many have run prominent stories claiming the abductor must be British – and could be known to the family.
“Maddie was taken by someone who knew her, someone who spoke her language and was close to her family – that much is certain,” Júlia Pinheiro wrote in 24 Horas. She suggested that the parents knew who had taken their daughter but refrained from saying so to avoid “provoking the kidnapper into a desperate act”.

The defence’s successful and skilful assault on the forensic method may be of some assistance to the parents of missing toddler Madeleine McCann. Their legal team will be watching closely to see if LCN DNA as an evidential process is seriously undermined by the Omagh case. The couple became labelled as suspects because of minute traces of their daughter’s DNA were allegedly found in a car they had rented after her disappearance.

It won’t open for me….but I think that the photo editor at The Times would likely have paid for them. If they did pay the McCanns or some 3d party negotiator (like Corner or his wife, perhaps), there will be a chit.
