Madeleine McCann: Praia da Luz Calls, Maddy Shunned And Portugal On The Edge
MADDYWATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann.
DAILY MAIL page 36: “Madeleine: Portuguese detectives trawl thousands of phone records”
Police are looking through phone records of Praia da Luz’a 27,000 residents at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. They are looking for unusual call patterns. Bugging calls
A local resident of Praia da Luz says the police questioned her, saying: “We are investigating all calls made within Praia da Luz from 9.30pm onwards on May 3″
Says the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Any information could prove vital”
THE SUN page 15: “Maddie cops seize local phone bills”
“They are using a method of triangulation which pinpoints a person’s location via their mobile and are also checking land-line calls”
Can it work? Says the Sun: “Mobile phone evidence exposed holes in the alibi of Soham murderer Ian Huntley”. And that is similar to this case because..?
DAILY MIRROR front page: “MADDY – Blitz to fined phone clues”
Page 10: “COPS CHECK EVERY CALL ON DAY MADDY VANISHED”
Well, not every call. Just calls made in the area of Praia da Luz by those 1,000 persons on a police list
DAILY EXPRESS page 19: “Now Madeleine police seize all phone records”
The papers says the search is in light of talk of a “massive conspiracy”. The Express is belived to be fond of a conspiracy
Says Clarence Mitchell: “Kate and Gerry are encouraged by this police work because it shows the investigation is now active and thorough…Crucially they also hope it may lead to them being reunited with Madeleine”
DAILY STAR: “PARENTS SHY AWAY FROM NAME ‘MADDY’”
Or Madeleine, for that is her name
The name Madeleine is “now lower than at any time in the past five years”. It is now the 80th most popular name. Says a child psychologist called Ruth: “The majority of people who hear the name Madeleine automatically associate it with her”
What the top girl’s name is readers are not told, nor where Kate features. The Telegraph says it is “Grace”, as in Baby Grace
NEW YORK TIMES: “Portugal Polishes Its Image as the ‘West Coast of Europe’”
Portugal wants to reposition itself. Portugal is exciting, shiny, new and historical.
But: “The unsolved case remains a big story for the British tabloids, and there have been reports of declines in tourism from Britain, an important market for Portugal.
“Over all, though, tourism remains strong, Manuel Pinho, Portugal’s minister for the economy and innovation said. ‘This is a tragic case, of course, but it has not affected the numbers,’ he said. ‘It’s a very peaceful country, a very safe country’”

Yes, I know how you feel.
Steel yourself.
We joke and mock because, because, mocking is one way to move just a little closer to the truth. It keeps her story fresh and alive. I know there is not a poster here who doesn’t feel real distress over little Madeleine. And so we question everything and everyone. Mockery is just another way of keeping the questions alive, vital.

Yes, plenty big. And as we can all see, especially from the “Hello” family pic, Madeleine was a tiny child for her age.

Bizarre! Above a gay sauna? Surely there must be an excellent Asian restaurant close at hand! And what a great way to keep an eye on the sex rings!
But this is the part I especially like: Although Mr Mitchell says he is pleased with Metodo 3’s “operational work”, sources close to the family have reportedly warned that the chances of its contract being renewed when it runs out in March are “virtually nil”.
Why?
Why, if their work is so pleasing, would you not continue to run their contract? Get one of the millionaires to pay for it! They are SO CLOSE to finding her! Oh, wait, I got it wrong…they ALREADY found her! So isn’t there also some kind of reward that Metodo should also be collecting very shortly?

Ian!!!
I got an awesome photo of the view Kate had when she shouted “They’ve taken her”.

Plush New HQ For McCann Private Eyes
By Alex Watts
In Barcelona Updated:16:18, Thursday December 20, 2007
Private detectives hired to search for Madeleine McCann have moved to plush new offices as questions emerge about whether they are giving good value for money.
Entrance to Metodo’s new officePeople who donated to the Find Madeleine Fund are seeing Metodo 3 pocket £50,000-a-month of their cash - without any apparent breakthrough.
The group has not yet produced any evidence to back their claims that they know who took the girl.
Boss Francisco Marco claims he knows the girl, who would be four years old now, is alive and could be reunited with her heartbroken parents Kate and Gerry for Christmas.
But he was not available to speak to Sky News Online by phone and on arriving at his office in Barcelona, it was claimed he was out of the country - working on a different case.
At a supposedly crucial stage in the inquiry, his luxurious new office - perched above a gay sauna in a grand, pillar-filled building - was in a make-shift state.
There was just one staff member in sight, and when asked if Sky News Online could see Mr Marco, she replied: “He’s not here, he’s out of the country on business. Not with the Madeleine case, on another case.”
Her advice was to return in two hours, when the office would re-open.
But on calling back at 4pm there were three staff and a small dog in the reception area, as well as a steady flow of people unloading boxes of files and other office equipment.
They refused to say anything, and grew steely when Madeleine was mentioned.
A few minutes later, a smartly-dressed detective arrived and refused to discuss anything to do with the case.
He kept stressing: “I can’t say anything. Only Clarence Mitchell (the McCanns’ official spokesman) can talk about the case. I’m sorry.”
Madeleine missing since May 3This was a far cry from Mr Marco’s astonishing claims just a few days before that he knew who had kidnapped the little girl.
His comments sparked reports of a stand-up row with the McCanns, who accused him of harming the chances of finding their daughter alive.
On calling the spokesman the day after Mr Marco made his claims, Mr Mitchell said he knew nothing about them.
He questioned why, if Metodo 3 knew where the vanished girl was, they did not go and get her.
It also seemed strange that if Mr Marco had a major breakthrough to report, then he should tell a newspaper before his clients.
Although Mr Mitchell says he is pleased with Metodo 3’s “operational work”, sources close to the family have reportedly warned that the chances of its contract being renewed when it runs out in March are “virtually nil”.

Yes, maybe.
Sometimes I am scared of the moment when we all will learn what really happened to Madeleine McCann.

411 Remigius Says:
“But of course, the actors have different ideas, it’s always the case with playwrights. So now, the writer is actually in a very different place than he planned.
This sometimes happens. It is what makes great writing real. Great writing is, frankly, a process that really doesn’t have so much to do with those who start it, as it does with those who finish it. The characters, who start out as the writer’s puppets, become the real masters of the piece, and the writer their servant.”
Couldn’t have said it better.

I think Mr Marco allowed the drama to get the better of him….
…nice money for diddly squat…pity he ruined a the possibility of
an extension of contract for himself by his crazy interviews.

We can’t know, but I got two answers from Matt and Remigius I am very content with. I’m already curious where “in the UK” will finally turn out to be.

Well, hasn’t that always been the essence of Shakespeare? The play within the play, the girl who’s a boy who’s a girl….
I think the McCanns do believe they are writing the play, and we are all just going along with them. That was their aim from the start, to control the dialogue.
But of course, the actors have different ideas, it’s always the case with playwrights. So now, the writer is actually in a very different place than he planned.
This sometimes happens. It is what makes great writing real. Great writing is, frankly, a process that really doesn’t have so much to do with those who start it, as it does with those who finish it. I remember writing on an early thread that the McCanns cancelled their sitter, most likely because…they had to start intensively bleaching and dousing their apartment with amonia, chlorine, etc.

As far as i am concerned you can throw all the DNA evidence in the bin. I want a good old fashioned trial much in the vain of ‘ a witness for the prosecution’ with classic witnesses like, waiters and maids, cunning lawyers who engage in witty banter, and a nail biting conclusion which ends in cheers from the public gallery.
Ok, i would keep the bin close by just in case.

Why not just get a real job, you’d make some bucks, avoid jail, all that?
